Humidity, showers, and thunderstorms will be the story through Friday night as a warm front moves north of the region today and a cold front crosses late Friday and early Saturday. Of the 2 days, Friday will see the most numerous showers and thunderstorms. Right now, I’m optimistic that the front will clear the region Saturday, with some lingering clouds in the morning for southern and eastern areas, but otherwise much nice weather for the remainder of the day and drier, comfortable weather for Sunday and early next week.

Before we get to the weather, for those who see this post in the 8PM hour Tuesday, the International Space Station will be visible as it passes nearly overhead from the SW sky to the ENE sky starting at 9:04PM. The HTV4 satellite will also appear in the NW sky slightly below the half way up point in the sky moving to the NE starting at 9:44PM. Should be clear enough to see both, though the ISS will be the highest up and most brilliant of the 2 passes.

Weatherwise, one more nice day Wednesday as high pressure hangs on but warm air starts to come in aloft, producing some high clouds. Then a slow-moving cold front takes from Thursday through Friday night to pass through the region, with episodes of showers and thunderstorms and a return to muggy air. This front gets offshore (hopefully) on Saturday, which should show improvement. A drier air mass comes in Sunday and lasts into early next week. There continues to be no hot weather in sight.

The week starts with a shot of refreshing air from Canada on a northwest wind behind a departing upper low and arriving surface high. The air moderates a little but remains comfortable through Tuesday. A warm front pushes eastward toward the region by Wednesday with more clouds and eventually a shower threat. We’ll be near a front on Thursday and Friday with warm/humid air just to the south. It’s hard to say how strong the push of this will be into the region at this point but going to lean for a stronger push of it, along with a shower and thunderstorm threat due to the closeness of the front. Looking into next weekend, low pressure in eastern Canada and high pressure over the east central US combine to send a warm westerly flow across the region.

The first weekend of August is upon us, and a couple of disturbances will be traversing the New England region during this time. This implies that the weather will not be perfect, but practical meteorology indicates that the weekend overall will be generally quite nice. Depending on your plans, you may have to watch for a passing shower or thunderstorm a couple times tonight,  Saturday, and again later Sunday. Otherwise, much of this weekend will be rain-free with warm air Saturday, mild air Sunday, and a lack of high humidity.

A cold front sweeping through the region Sunday night (responsible for Sunday’s afternoon shower/storm threat)  will bring a blast of cool and dry air for Monday of next week. But things will be moving along in the atmosphere and though it will remain dry and pleasant, it will already turning a little warmer Tuesday. As we head into the middle and latter portion of the week, timing becomes less discernible with weather systems, but an early call would be to expected clouds and a shower threat with a warm front Wednesday, a sneaky hotter day Thursday, and a cold front bringing a thunderstorm threat Friday. Fine-tuning to come, of course, as these days draw closer.

We are in one great weather pattern. Though you may be a little disappointed if you love heat and humidity, because both, especially heat, will be rather absent as far as typical Augusts go, at least for the first 10 days of the month.

Interruptions in an otherwise fair weather pattern courtesy of  a trough in eastern Canada will come in the form of a cold front  passing through the region from west to east through early Friday, and a secondary disturbance crossing the area on Saturday. There may be a cloud-producing disturbance or two during the course of early to mid next week, but a largely dry weather pattern will have become established.
