Monday Forecast

2:28AM

DAYS 1-5 (MAY 16-20)…
A windy and cool Monday as the pressure gradient between a deepening low in eastern Canada and high pressure to the west remains fairly strong. Cold air aloft will still allow for some cloud development, though there will also be sunshine. A very chilly night is upcoming but I believe the wind may stay active enough and the air dry enough to prevent frost in all but the most sheltered valley locations. A wave of low pressure will pass south of the region early Wednesday, and will bring at least some cloudiness into the region later Tuesday into Wednesday, and perhaps a period of rain, which will favor southern MA southward. High pressure builds in later in the week with fabulous spring weather.
TODAY: Sun/cloud mix. Highs upper 50s to lower 60s. Wind W 15-25 MPH with higher gusts.
TONIGHT: Clearing. Areas of frost possible in deepest valleys. Lows middle 30s to lower 40s. Wind W 5-15 MPH with higher gusts.
TUESDAY: Sun followed by clouds. Highs in the 60s. Wind W 10-20 MPH with a few higher gusts.
TUESDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Chance of rain overnight mainly southern MA southward. Lows upper 40s to lower 50s. Wind W under 10 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: Mostly cloudy start with a chance of rain mainly southeastern MA and RI in the morning. Clearing trend midday and afternoon. Highs in the 60s. Wind W to variable 5-15 MPH.
THURSDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows upper 40s to middle 50s. Highs upper 60s to middle 70s.
FRIDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows in the 50s. Highs in the 70s.

DAYS 6-10 (MAY 21-25)…
The weekend of May 21-22 will be dry and fairly warm, though there is a slight risk that a weak trough from the north may shift the wind onshore on May 22 for somewhat cooler air in eastern coastal areas. Watching a possible upper low to the south May 23-24 that would bring some wet weather at some point if it got close enough. Fair and warmer weather should be back by the end of the period.

DAYS 11-15 (MAY 26-30)…
Fair weather is expected for most of this period, though there may be a few showers and thunderstorms at some point around the May 28-29 period, which is part of the Memorial Day Weekend. There is a long way to go to fine-tune this forecast as that weekend approaches.

Saturday Forecast

1:31AM

DAYS 1-5 (MAY 14-18)…
A split weekend with warmth and a bit of humidity today, then a cool and gusty Sunday. In between, the second frontal passage in as many nights will bring a couple bands of showers and even a few thunderstorms, with all activity occurring between dark and dawn. It will be a great weekend for outdoor activities, though a limiting factor on Sunday for some activities will be some potent wind gusts, so keep this in mind when planning. Another cool and breezy day will occur Monday, followed by a tranquil Tuesday. A system approaching from the west will bring at least cloudiness and potentially some shower activity by Wednesday.
TODAY: Mostly sunny through early afternoon then clouds move in from west to east mid afternoon through evening. Highs in the 60s South Coast, 70s elsewhere, with a few interior locations reaching the lower 80s. Moderate humidity. Wind W 5-15 MPH with a few higher gusts.

Thursday Forecast

7:26AM

DAYS 1-5 (MAY 12-16)…
High pressure dominates today and it warms up nicely over the interior while the coast is modified by a sea breeze, and sunshine will be in full control as it was yesterday. A broad low pressure trough will pass through from west to east Friday through Monday, but it still appears that rainfall will be limited to 2 frontal passages, the first late Friday and Friday night, and the second Saturday night through the early hours of Sunday. This will leave much of the weekend rain-free. Lingering cold air aloft on the trough’s back side may still cause a few very light showers but at least some clouds on Monday. The air mass change will be quite evident between Saturday (which will be 70+ in most areas), and Sunday-Monday, which will struggle to reach 60 in many areas.
TODAY: Sunny. Highs 60s coast, 70s to lower 80s interior, but will likely cool back somewhat within a few miles of the coast in the afternoon. Wind light S with coastal sea breezes developing.
TONIGHT: Clear evening. Partly cloudy overnight. Lows in the 50s. Wind S 5-15 MPH.
FRIDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of showers especially late day and night. Highs middle 60s to lower 70s. Wind S to SW 10-20 MPH and gusty.
SATURDAY: Partly cloudy. Shower threat returns at night. Lows in the 50s. Highs upper 60s to middle 70s, coolest South Coast and Cape Cod.
SUNDAY: Partly sunny and windy. Lows middle 40s to lower 50s. Highs upper 50s to lower 60s.
MONDAY: Partly sunny and breezy. Isolated showers. Lows in the 40s. Highs middle 50s to lower 60s.

DAYS 6-10 (MAY 17-21)…
Fair May 17. Uncertain timing but rain risk somewhere in the May 18-19 period. Fair weather May 20-21. Temperatures slowly moderating.

DAYS 11-15 (MAY 22-26)…
Fair May 22. Shower risk mid period. Fair late in the period. Temperatures near to above normal.

Wednesday Forecast

7:27AM

DAYS 1-5 (MAY 11-15)…
High pressure controls today and tomorrow. A broad low pressure trough will pass through from west to east Friday through Sunday, but it appears that rainfall will be limited to 2 frontal passages, the first last Friday and Friday night, and the second Saturday night through the early hours of Sunday. This will leave much of the weekend rain-free.
TODAY: Mostly sunny. Highs middle 60s to lower 70s but may cool to the 50s eastern coastal areas. Wind light N with coastal sea breezes developing.
TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows in the middle 40s to lower 50s. Wind light E shifting to S.

Fair May 16. Uncertain timing but rain risk somewhere in the May 17-19 period. Fair weather May 20. Temperatures start the period near to below normal and end it near to above normal.

DAYS 11-15 (MAY 21-25)…
Fair May 21-22. Shower risk mid to late period. Temperatures near to above normal.

Tuesday Forecast

3:15AM

DAYS 1-5 (MAY 10-14)…
Broad but disorganized high pressure will dominate through Thursday, varying its center from southwest of southern New England today to north of New England Wednesday to southeast of New England Thursday. These varying positions of the center of high pressure will mean different wind directions daily, and this will have some impact on temperatures. On Friday, an approaching front from the west will bring cloudiness and an eventual shower threat. Most of this activity may occur Friday night and then get out of the day for a decent daytime Saturday between disturbances departing to the east and approaching from the west, the second of which would bring another round of showers Saturday night.
TODAY: Mostly sunny. Highs middle 60s to lower 70s. Wind W 5-15 MPH with a few higher gusts.
TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows in the 40s. Wind light NW.
WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs middle 60s to lower 70s but may cool to the 50s eastern coastal areas. Wind light N shifting to E.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows in the middle 40s to lower 50s. Wind light SE shifting to S.
THURSDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs upper 60s to middle 70s interior, upper 50s to middle 60s coast. Wind light S to SW except coastal sea breezes.
FRIDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of showers especially late day and night. Lows in the 50s. Highs middle 60s to lower 70s.
SATURDAY: Variably cloudy. Shower threat returns at night. Lows in the 50s. Highs middle 60s to lower 70s.

DAYS 6-10 (MAY 15-19)…
Any showers should be gone by early on May 15 with fair weather returning and lasting into May 16. Chance of rain May 17. Fair weather returns May 18-19 as systems begin to move more progressively. Temperatures near to below normal.

DAYS 11-15 (MAY 20-24)…
Fair and warmer early to mid period followed by increasing rain risk later in the period.

Monday Forecast

1:55AM

DAYS 1-5 (MAY 9-13)…
Yes, the pattern is still in blocking-mode the next few days, but we’ve managed to get back to the fair weather side of the block, as we were in April. Other than a disturbance aloft passing by today and causing some clouds and a few isolated showers that should be mostly north of the forecast area, high pressure will generally be in control with fair weather through the middle of the week. I’m going to lean to the optimistic side and forecast the fair weather including a warming trend through Thursday. By Friday, an approaching front from the west should at least bring cloudiness and probably a shower threat.
TODAY: Sunshine with intervals of clouds. A slight chance of an isolated shower mainly in southern NH but possibly in northern MA. Highs upper 50s to middle 60s. Wind W 5-15 MPH, gusting above 20 MPH often.
TONIGHT: Partly cloudy to mostly clear. Lows middle 30s to lower 40s. Wind W 5-15 MPH, gusting above 20 MPH at times.
TUESDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs middle 60s to lower 70s. Wind W 5-15 MPH with a few higher gusts.
WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows middle 40s to lower 50s. Highs middle 60s to lower 70s.
THURSDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows upper 40s to middle 50s. Highs upper 60s to middle 70s.
FRIDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of showers. Lows in the 50s. Highs middle 60s to lower 70s.

DAYS 6-10 (MAY 14-18)…
A broad trough will traverse the northeastern USA during this period and will bring several disturbances and a couple fronts through the region. The weekend of May 14-15 will likely feature a few episodes of showers but there will likely be periods of fair weather as well with a slight cool-down overall. Another round of showers or rain may occur early next week, favoring May 17, as a cool-down continues.

DAYS 11-15 (MAY 19-23)…
More progression is indicated in the pattern with an overall warmer trend but still a few episodes of passing showers as air masses change a couple times. Timing of systems is difficult this far in advance.

Sunday Forecast

8:04AM

Happy Mother’s Day!

DAYS 1-5 (MAY 8-12)…
Changing weather today as a cold front pushes across the region and changes the conditions from clouds and intervals of sun early to overcast with many showers from mid morning through early afternoon from west to east, then clears it all out by the end of the day. Low pressure to the east and high pressure to the west brings a gusty breeze and an upper disturbance allows for some clouds and isolated showers Monday before high pressure dominates with fair weather Tuesday and Wednesday. The next system may return clouds and a risk of wet weather sometime on Thursday, which is faster than most models currently show.
TODAY – MOTHER’S DAY: Mostly cloudy morning through early afternoon – showers likely west to east during mid morning through early afternoon, lastly Cape Cod. Clearing west to east during the mid to late afternoon. Highs upper 50s to middle 60s. Wind S 5-15 MPH early, then SW 10-20 MPH for a while before shifting to W with higher gusts.

TUESDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows in the 40s. Highs in the 60s.
WEDNESDAY: Partly sunny. Lows in the 40s. Highs in the 60s.
THURSDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of rain. Lows in the 40s. Highs in the 60s.

DAYS 6-10 (MAY 13-17)…
Unsettled weather continues May 13 with showers. Fair weather returns later May 14 through May 15 but it may turn unsettled again later in the period with another threat of rain. Temperatures near normal overall.

DAYS 11-15 (MAY 18-22)…

Rain risk early in the period, a brief cool-down, then warming with mostly fair weather late in the period.

Friday Forecast

7:33AM

DAYS 1-5 (MAY 6-10)…
The final in a series of low pressure areas will cut off south of New England and weaken through Saturday, close enough for lots of cloudiness and a risk of showers, far enough away to allow a few breaks in the clouds. A cold front passing by on Sunday, Mother’s Day, will boot the weakening low out to sea, but itself will bring some showers, followed by improvement. High pressure will control Monday and Tuesday with fair weather.
TODAY: Mostly cloudy. Breaks of sun most likely in eastern MA and southern NH this morning. Scattered rain most likely southern MA and RI favoring midday and afternoon, but possible anywhere by late day. Highs upper 40s immediate eastern shores, 50s elsewhere. DAYS 11-15 (MAY 16-20)…
Rain risk early in the period, a brief cool-down, then moderating with mostly fair weather late in the period.

DAYS 11-15 (MAY 14-18)…
Looks like a pattern of changing temperatures averaging out close to normal and passing weather systems bringing minor episodes of rain or showers a couple times.

Tuesday Forecast

7:22AM

DAYS 11-15 (MAY 13-17)…
Fair weather returns early in the period lasting through mid period before turning unsettled again late. Temperatures near to below normal.

Monday Forecast

7:21AM

DAYS 1-5 (MAY 2-6)…
A string of low pressure areas moving along a boundary to the south of New England provides frequently unsettled weather through midweek, then a large upper low parks itself on the East Coast of the US later in the week, continuing the trend.
TODAY: Overcast. Periods of drizzle and areas of fog. Showers likely midday into afternoon, greatest chance northern MA and southern NH. Highs in the 50s. Wind NE 5-15 MPH.
TONIGHT: Cloudy. Patchy drizzle and fog. Isolated showers. Lows in the 40s. Wind light NE.

DAYS 6-10 (MAY 7-11)…
Upper low still in control but may drift far enough to the southeast to lose some of its grip, allowing for at least partial sun and less of a shower risk over the weekend of May 7-8. Not 100% confident of this so check updates. Fair weather more dominant May 9-11 and temperatures a little closer to averages for this time of year.

DAYS 11-15 (MAY 12-16)…
Overall trend is for the atmosphere to be less blocked but more progressive again but still no sustained warm weather in this area through mid month. A few episodes of showers possible but not likely any big rain producers.
