DAYS 1-5 (JUNE 3-7)

A warm front passing through the region early today will introduce warmer and more humid air to the region, but a cold front quickly on its heals will bring the risk of a shower or thunderstorm to some areas by later in the day, although it looks like the bulk of that activity may occur southwest of the WHW forecast area, across western MA and CT. Still have to watch for one elsewhere. A sliver of drier air arrives for Thursday, behind the cold front, but it’s not a strong front so it will remain rather warm anyway. Also, that front won’t get that far south of the region and a disturbance coming along it will allow a batch of clouds to come back in later in the day and even a chance of some shower and isolated thunderstorm activity favoring the South Coast overnight Thursday night / Friday morning. In fact the boundary will lift back to the north with time and bring back the humid air during Friday and into Saturday, when low pressure passing north of the region will again drive the front back to the south for the second half of the weekend, introducing cooler air, but will there be any significant clearing? I’m not banking on it. A still-close-by front and a northeasterly air flow with high pressure to the north does not often promote a clean clear-out behind the front, so Sunday may end up at least mostly cloudy, and we may even see some shower activity. Yup, this is that boundary that I mentioned last week being in the area for the second half of this week.

TODAY: Partly sunny. Isolated showers and thunderstorms possible from mid afternoon on. More humid. Highs 76-83. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.

TONIGHT: Partly cloudy. Risk of a shower early. Lows 55-62. Wind W up to 10 MPH.

THURSDAY: Partly cloudy. Highs 78-85. Wind W 5-15 MPH.

THURSDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Risk of showers mainly south of I-90. Lows 60-67. Wind WSW up to 10 MPH.

FRIDAY: Variably cloudy. Chance of a few showers and thunderstorms. Humid. Highs 77-84. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Risk of a few showers and thunderstorms. Patchy fog. Humid. Lows 62-69. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.

SATURDAY: Partly sunny. Risk of showers and thunderstorms mainly morning and midday. Humid. Highs 76-83. Wind SW 5-15 MPH shifting to NW.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Variably cloudy. Lows 55-62. Wind NW up to 10 MPH shifting to NE.

SUNDAY: Mostly cloudy. Risk of showers. Highs 65-70 coast, 70-75 inland Wind NE 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (JUNE 8-12)

High pressure from Canada brings fair, cooler weather June 8-9. Then we go back to the pattern with a nearby frontal boundary and bouts of cloudiness while cool air to the north battles warm and humid air to the south. This also means a few shower and thunderstorm threats as well. We’ll have to keep an eye on possible remnant tropical moisture from a Gulf of Mexico system that may be involved in enhancing rainfall before this 5-day period ends.

DAYS 11-15 (JUNE 13-17)

Return to a drier pattern. Temperatures near to slightly below normal.

  1. Ok, here are my initial thoughts on this theme. I know you said you could change
the colors on top, but as this is, I nearly vomited. Ouch, those various orange shades and round shapes made me feel like I was in a horror movie.

    re: Posts
Poster’s handle is in a lousy color and is not prominent enough.

Sorry, you said to tell it like we see it.

And the orange post button???? Yuck.

  2. Thanks, TK !

Of all the things, I like the idea of the newest comments being on top, both later yesterday and now today.

Blogger name on the side is interesting, I like the font and the print size. Of the 3 so far, this one feels easiest for reading.

    1. I read this comment and did not know who it was from. I had to search
all over the page until I saw Tom in little orangy/pinkish letters. GEEZE!

    2. Tom, I like the newest on top as well, however, for the record they were on top
by mid-day yesterday when TK figured out how to do that. πŸ™‚

  3. TK,
If you don’t mind one more comment…
Is there anyway WP would allow you to keep the older
blog dates in their originally created format?

Then when you have presented them all, all of us can review how each and everyone
one of them looks for a side by side comparison.

As it is now, we have to rely on our memories and you either have to remember
all of the comments OR log those comments somewhere and go back and review
them all. Seems like a lot of work.

If we could view them all, you could then take a quick survey.

I know, I am barking up the wrong tree because WP simply is NOT flexible enough
to allow such an innovative process.

Sorry If I appear to me Mr. Negative, but there is much going on and I have a tendency
    to roll that way anyway.

  4. Thanks, TK…
Mostly cloudy with peeks of sun here at 0900.

Visiting this blog this week is like a gameshow or a pageant! πŸ™‚
Today is Contestant # 3!!!! πŸ™‚ I find myself coming to WHW in anticipation of today’s typeface!!! πŸ™‚

My quick opinion is 1) Tuesday; 2) Wednesday; 3) Monday

      1. Don’t like the reply format. It’s hard to see what’s an original and what’s a reply.

  5. TK…I have straight out busy so far this week, but have been meaning to thank you for including Chuck Mangione as your musical selection the other day. My favorite album of his is “Children of Sanchez” and the song, “Bellavia”, from that album.

My brother played trombone in the high school band and has met Chuck on a number of occasions.

Speaking of music, I came across Rockin’ 1000 on You Tube this spring. I believe it is a world-wide rock summer camp that culminates in a huge concert in a soccer stadium.

It is absolutely awesome! I know that you and Nate would enjoy this!!! Maybe, in better days to come, we will have Rockin 1000 in the shadow of Woods Hill!!! πŸ™‚

    Here’s a sample, David Bowie’s “Rebel Rebel”:

    1. Wow, Captain. How exciting for your brother, as a trumpet player, to meet Chuck.

And awesome link. I blasted through the house. Still dancing in my chair

  6. Thank you, TK,

I missed the newer comment on top switch yesterday, but remembered Many WP templates have that option. I like it also. And now I suspect that is why I posted one of my comments twice because I didn’t think it showed up but was looking at bottom

So since we are playing rebel, rebel, I like the colors on top but also like that you can change as the mood strikes you. I do wish I’d seen yesterday’s as that may be my favorite due to the names being so prominent.

Off to see how easy it is to find Covid.

    This Is lots of fun!!

  7. As long as we are critiquing the new format….

I wish new posts could be entered at the top since that is where the new posts
are displayed, but we still have to scroll to the bottom to make a new post
and then to view that new post, it is now on the top.

    1. Ah ha. Excellent point. I don’t know if any of these templates offer the option to add a side bar as we had in old format.

  8. Thanks TK
Saturday might be our day to keep an eye to the sky for thunderstorm potential.
    From NWS Boston
Better chance of showers/t-storms Sat as mid level trough and attendant cold front approach from the Gt Lakes with better forcing and modest instability. CAPES possibly increasing to 1000-2000 J/kg. Can`t rule out a few strong storms with severe wx possible as wind field and deep layer shear increase with the approach of the mid level trough.

  9. WxW…are you in the office today?
Looks like an exciting afternoon for your forecasting area!

  10. From Mt. Holly, NJ NWS:

Storms are hauling at 90 mph!!!

At 1220 PM EDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line
extending from near Kendall Park to Levittown to near Morris Park,
    moving east at 90 mph.

    These are very dangerous storms.

HAZARD…80 mph wind gusts. Widespread wind damage is occurring with
    these storms.

    SOURCE…Radar indicated.

IMPACT…Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without
shelter. Mobile homes will be heavily damaged. Expect
considerable damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles.
Extensive tree damage and power outages are likely.

  11. Thank you for the comments so far!!

Dave I don’t believe there is an way to split layouts… I think it’s all whatever you have so the active theme at the time. I’ll enquire with Han Solo when I have a chance.

CF… Thanks for the link! Nate and I will check that out!

  12. 12z EURO having a nutty at hr 168, merging remnant circulation of tropical system with jet stream energy to produce a 977 mb low over western Great Lakes. I’m sure this is fairly unlikely, though I have read of a few recorded cases where a remnant tropical low got re-invigorated with jet stream energy to produce a strong mid-latitude system.

  13. This theme has sort of a 70s living room vibe. Kind of dig it better than the first two but agree the color scheme is ehhhhhh

  14. I made a quick change to the header image & font color at the top for the second half of the life of today’s weather post…

  15. Thanks TK. Not a huge fan of this format either, would put it behind yesterday’s but ahead of the prior day’s.

I cannot believe I still have power, though many around here do not. I’ve never seen winds like what came through here earlier. I was at the office today (home now, though some severe weather is still ongoing). I was actually on radar duty, which frankly is one of the easier jobs on a day like this. But those enhanced wording SVR’s including the one Captain posted earlier do indeed bear my initials at the bottom. Was quite an experience. Would estimate 70 mph winds when the storms hit our office. Measured gusts as high as 89 mph at the NJ shore. Classic derecho event.

    1. Copied too soon before pasting.

Giving credit where credit is due!

We’re all proud, WxW! It’s like knowing a celebrity!

      Well done!

take priority. Whenever possible, as long as it does not cause
greater harm, all COVID-19 protective action guidance should be
      followed.

This is an EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION. These storms are producing
widespread wind damage across eastern Pennsylvania. SEEK SHELTER NOW
inside a sturdy structure and stay away from windows!

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm, and
the storm will affect the beaches. For your safety, immediately move
off the beach and seek shelter indoors.

    1. There are severe thunderstorm warnings to the north and west of NYC currently. PA and NJ got smacked today when it comes to severe weather.

      1. They sure did, that line this morning just charged SE across PA, right into the ocean. That thing had momentum and then some ……

  16. Beautiful, tall cumulus cloud to my north, that is the thunderstorm now over Boston Harbor. An occasional lightning flash illuminates it in the growing darkness. Its neat to watch.

    1. I was in the core of that storm in stoneham. very heavy rain and it briefly got windy out of no where towards the end. no lightning
