Covid-19 cases creeping back up in the southern & western states. However, I believe these are the same states that opened up too early in the first place.
Still remains to be seen how adverse the nationwide demonstrations will play a part.
On the bright side, nationwide positivity is down to around 5.2%. Ideally, positivity should be below 3% as it is in Italy, Spain, and New York.
I’m concerned about the impact of the nationwide demonstrations.
There’s also an inconsistency in terms of public health officials’ views on social and physical distancing. It’s disconcerting, in my view. It’s okay to say the demonstrations may lead to a spike in new cases. We need to carefully balance that with calls for social justice. Much more social and physical distancing at these demonstrations is definitely recommended.
This is what I was getting at with my comment yesterday, Joshua. The fine line is balancing our constitutional rights and social distancing. The problem I see is that social distancing, wearing masks, etc do not remove constitutional rights. Forbidding peaceful protest does. I see many wearing masks during protests. Not enough. But I seriously doubt enforcing masks and distancing will have any impact.
These are my thoughts above, but I am not sold on how to address protesters. Anyone have some ideas?
Should Covid cars regenerate back to serious levels, I wonder if “Virtual” protesting could become an option? Would our youth accept that concept?
I totally made it up myself. I am not tech savvy in the least. Just a suggestion should worldwide health deteriorates again.
* I meant “cases”
C-19 for 6-6 is up…
I hate to be “chicken little” but – as much as I love that at last we are starting to get some real traction on such a critical issue – if the virus is as contagious as they currently believe it to be I don’t see how we can avoid being back at or close to ground zero early-March numbers) again a week from today. There will be a small or medium spike amongst the protesters which will grow from there as each protester returns home to his/her bubble group. I really hope I’m wrong but if this happens I’m also thinking given the recent 180 degree turn in terms of guidance – from you cannot even have a family funeral to now it’s okay for thousands to gather together – if there is another spike people may resist going back to “pre-phase 1 -“ again which might then result in a really bad winter – much worse than the first wave.
Did I mention I hope I’m wrong?
Also I think I liked yesterday’s format the best 🙂

This article explains the inconsistency.
