  1. I’d like to repost here. With the excitement last night, I didn’t see your response, Longshot. Sorry. I agree we might find some new and innovative solutions. My fear is that if we focus on too much, when schools need to close again, we will not have a robust online plan in place. There is a ton of very legitimate reasoning here as well as questions .

    1. Thanks for reposting this Vicki. A very excellent read indeed. Colleges/Universities have many of these questions to consider as well.

As usual, we as a nation fail to look ahead and consider the consequences.

      1. Sooo many people who are alive could have used this wasted money. I know I could use another stimulus check.

  2. The IRS sent out $1.4 BILLION in stimulus checks to people who are either dead or in prison.

  3. Spain is seeing an upswing of Covid-19 cases again. Two locales (one in Catalonia and another in Galicia) are in lockdown.
Israel is also reporting a spike in cases.

    1. I believe the U.K. as well. From what I can tell watching tv news is that bars with crowds of people inside and (more importantly) no mask wearing.

These bars really need to limit the capacity and insist customers and staff wear masks.

Just curious. Are bars even allowed to open now in MA under Phase 3?

      1. I hope not.

I like bars on occasion, but I’m going to hold off going until next year. I’m happy to pay a tax to keep all bars and restaurants afloat.

I’m not even going to sit in a coffee shop for a while. And, I really like doing that. It’s a minimalist year. With little revenue coming in (about 50% drop from last year), I have to be minimalist.

Massive delays in reporting data. Several states haven’t reported at all in 3 days. Others (5) have only reported partial data since Thursday. Also, the lag time for test reporting is now 6 days on average, and for deaths it’s 9 days. Not in Massachusetts, but nationwide.

Other countries are experiencing rising cases, but not nearly to the level of the U.S. I updated my Luxembourg article to reflect new data. Luxembourg is reporting a spate of new cases. However, their testing rate is so high (3.5 times our rate) that the Trumpism “it’s because they do a lot of testing” really does apply. Test positivity has generally been n the 1-2% range. By comparison, the U.S. national (!) average is now up to an astounding 9.1%. https://www.forbes.com/sites/joshuacohen/2020/05/13/as-a-tiny-nation-tests-all-inhabitants-for-coronavirus-the-world-awaits-the-results/#5874c1172378
