No significant changes to the discussion posted yesterday. Timing of systems is still similar. Dry/mild weather dominates through Wednesday. A transition to cooler weather for the end of the week means that a wet day is likely Thursday. How much rain falls is still up in the air (no pun intended). A low pressure area east of the Bahamas may become a tropical system and move northward into a position that it could either throw a band of heavy rain into the region later Thursday, or just as easily keep it offshore, robbing the region of moisture for really heavy rain. If this happens, the front coming in from the west may also lose some of its punch and produce less widespread rain. Based on this, Thursday’s forecast is low confidence and so I will just leave the wording the same for now.
Updated Boston Area Forecast…
OVERNIGHT: Mostly clear. Low ranging from the upper 30s suburban areas to middle 40s coast and Boston. Wind W up to 10 MPH.
TUESDAY: Mostly sunny. High 65-70 but cooling back toward 60 along the coast. Wind W up to 10 MPH becoming variable to E in the afternoon.
TUESDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Low ranging from near 40 inland to near 50 at the coast. Wind light SE.
WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny. High 60-65. Wind SE up to 10 MPH.
THURSDAY: Mostly cloudy. PM showers. Heavier rain possible at night. Low 50. High 60.
FRIDAY – VETERANS DAY: Variably cloudy. Isolated showers early morning & late day. Gusty winds. Low 44. High 54.
SATURDAY: Partly cloudy. Low 33. High 53.
SUNDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 28. High 51.
MONDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 36. High 61.
Although for the moment I haven’t made any wording changes to Thursday’s forecast, I will certainly refine it on the next update. I think that the “kind-of-tropical” low pressure area off the Bahamas will develop and move northward, and one of its outer moisture bands will clip the Cape & Islands with some heavier rain at some point Thursday. But with most of the moisture tied up offshore, I think this lessens the rain potential in much of MA otherwise. We’ll have to wait for the cold front to cross the region at night and early Friday, and this front may also be somewhat moisture starved and rain may be limited from this as well.
wow, what a nice morning. last of snow in the yar should go today 9except for the banks)
looking forward to getting the leaves up this wekend
Thanks TK and it is a lovely morning.
Does anyone know where in the sky we should look to see the asteroid as it passes by tonight. I heard that it would be around 6:30 but not the direction to look and I’d love to go out to see it.
Hi, Vicki – I just saw the news on WBZ and according to Melissa Mack, you can’t see the asteroid w/the naked eye – you need a telescope. It is as big as an aircraft carrier.
Beautiful day outside! It is 66 degrees in Sudbury right now.
Hi rainshine – I just came here to say I’d seen that too. Thank you!! The way Dillon was talking this morning I thought you’d be able to see it. I would have loved that.
Forgot to post this when it came out on the 25th of October with all the snow talk and power outage problem from WSI.

Anyone else reach 70?
Did Logan Reach it?
Thanks
We are at 68 in Framingham – I’m rooting for it to reach 70

No surprise but the latest CPC 6-10 and 8-14 day outlooks continue with the above normal temperatures.
I think those snow chances the Farmers’ Almanac for the 12-15th and 16-19th of the month are going to be off.
I would love to know what they mean when they say squally conditions. I have never heard that term before.
“Squall” was once a popular and now underused weather word. It refers to a sudden increase in wind (there is a certain level it must increase, by definition, but off the top of my head I can’t remember it). The wind must also remain at it’s new, higher speed for at least 1 minute, if I recall correctly. Squalls are often associated with a shower of rain, or snow, or mixed precip, possibly heavy, but by definition, precipitation does not have to occur, as it is based on the behavior of the wind.
Thanks TK for the explaination.
Looks like we will get a piece of the new tropical storm:

What a beautiful summer’s ……oops, I mean autumn day.
Looks like another warm day or two early next week.
Monday-Tuesday of next week look a lot like Monday-Tuesday of this week.
Thanks, that sounds good !!
I guess Sean will be taking a trip towards Bermuda.

The NAM doesn’t think so. Lol.
Bermuda can have Sean as far as I am concerned. We don’t need no more
stinken rain!

Not even close to what will happen.
It is a spectacular night. I’m on the deck. Pegasus is overhead and the moon is shining in my eyes. How can you beat new England?
You can’t. People will argue things like some tropical island wherever, and I’m sure that’s fantastic, and I’m sure when you’re away from city lights the sky looks even better (though that is possible in New England). But you just cannot beat New England. 🙂
New blog! Comments please! 🙂
