I hear now that restaurants are now scrambling to order plexiglass and heaters to continue outdoor dining in the coming months ahead.
Instead, why don’t health officials work with restaurants to bring back indoor dining to “up” the capacity inside these establishments? Aren’t there ways to pump in fresh (warm) air so diners can be comfortable? Even with a strong SE ridge pattern there are still going to be some days with arctic air.
Joshua, what is the current indoor capacity for restaurants in this state?
Most restaurants are already offering indoor seating. I know all of ours are open for indoor. But because of space restrictions, they lose customers. Outdoor gives them more options. Any fees associated with outdoor heaters have been waived. Also, many people still won’t eat inside. Another addition to revenue gathering is curbside pickup. The state has given permission for wine and beer to be a take out item also. I think the move to extend outdoor is another step by the state to help
I don’t know why they are looking for plexiglass. I do know heaters are not expensive. They’d end up paying pretty much for themselves. I have one on my deck for winter.
Paris cafes have outdoor heaters. They work well when it’s not too cold. Paris winters aren’t nearly as cold as Boston’s, even if it’s a mild winter here.
I think the outdoor seating will work more than half the time, but during a true Arctic intrusion – Montreal express – practically no-one’s sitting outside to eat or drink (except me, maybe).
Agree. Many restaurants west of Boston have had heaters for years. Mac and I always enjoyed quiet dinners at many of them
Oh and me. We can meet 🙂
I assume the plexiglass would be to protect diners from the elements, not to mention the cold air itself. I don’t believe that heaters would be much good without enclosure.
Elements (wind, precipitation etc.)
My heater is excellent. I sit out at well below freezing. Grand kids do also. The ones at restaurants out here are also good . You may be quite right about use for plexiglass. I’ll see what I can find. Some restaurants already have plexiglass outside
Under Phase 3, what is the current capacity for indoor dining?
Is it by percentage (%) or number of customers?
This has a lot of info Philip. Let me know if it isn’t what you were looking for and I’d be happy to dig more.
My heater. Please ignore me..I was too lazy to get up and take picture so reversed camera. Right now, it’s off the deck for summer. It will be moved back onto the deck soon.
According to President Trump (fwiw), every American will get the vaccine by April.
Well hmmmm. Wasn’t it before the election
I will wait for Fauci
200,000 U.S. deaths! 🙁
Also, a second wave in the U.K.!
Yes, and Ruth Ginsburg passed away this evening. 2020 has been a tough year, and it ain’t over yet. Didn’t agree with Ginsburg on some issues – I’m just not as liberal. But, I have tremendous respect for her as a brilliant jurist, a trailblazer, an icon.
She will be very much missed. I had no idea about her struggles with discrimination.
