  1. Yesterday, a cousin who lives in Richmond VA told me that she CANNOT get tested (even though she works in a hospital of all places) unless she actually shows symptoms.

Around here it’s all about testing, testing, testing etc. regardless of employment from what I can tell.

Joshua, what’s going on in the state of Virginia? My cousin (or anybody) could very well be asymptomatic.

    1. And btw, I work security at Mass. College of Art and we have to get tested once per week since the fall semester began and following the Thanksgiving break, twice this upcoming week. On top of that, all officers now have to report to our company prior to each shift via an online Health Questionnaire.

I’m not sure if this means he will take away remote. Has he seen the numbers? Does he know he could easily be signing a death warrant for a child or family member? I’m now completely disgusted with this man. He is taking his lead from Riley and I have not ever had a lot of respect for him. I know of several folks who are with kids who are positive and don’t have to quarantine because they may be in the same room but have not been within six feet for at least 15 min at one time. What? Covid can tell time now?

  3. I find our overall paralysis/inability to move past the denial phase is becoming completely pervasive in so many aspects of life right now in the US – and is a huge red flag as it’s a trademark of countries who are just unable to function.

When we have food lines like we have right now and a health crisis that’s spinning entirely out of control, and underlying crisis in almost all major areas – race relations, gender inequality, economic crisis, climate crisis, role of government itself crisis, prevalent corruption, health care crisis – and we are feeling – for whatever reason – essentially impotent as a nation to stop any of it (as we watch Trump play golf and just wait until Jan 20 as hundreds of thousands more die in the interim) I fear we are slipping into a different type of country.

    1. I fear that 2021 will mirror 2020 with very little change of “scenery” so to speak. No return close to normalcy until 2022/early 2023 if we continue in the direction we are heading. My optimism drops day by day.

      1. Mama….I fear the same. I’ve seen separation in my life but not like this….not where a majority put their trust in a man who is morally bankrupt. I truly believe Biden will work to bring us together, but this person is determined to hold onto his control ….knowing it will end the grand experiment.

Phillip, I’m afraid you are correct. I have felt safer in this state because of Baker. That trust is eroding by the day. We cannot move forward as if we are not seeing an increase in cases by the day. And we cannot move forward when a good portion of this country has forgotten the meaning of greater good.

  4. Mama Mia, Vicki, Philip, et al. you’re all correct. I wish our Constitution would allow for a (temporary) government of national unity – not that I would expect either side to necessarily want that. We’re faced with multiple crises. It’s time to set aside politics and try and solve them, or at least address them in a sober, rational way. Instead, we’re even more polarized than before. We cannot even agree on neutral facts.

For the first time, I feel truly foreign in my own country. I’m seriously considering emigrating. I know it won’t be peaches and cream wherever I might go. But, I’m at my wit’s end trying to figure out what went wrong, and why we’ve devolved into a country that in some ways is hard for me to recognize.

I love America, the flag, our Constitution, our diversity, even our eccentricities. But, I’m very alarmed at the normalization of crazy behavior at the top. I’m mystified at our polarization on both sides of the aisle. And, I don’t believe we’re moving forward in an enlightened or even pragmatic way.

Consider this fact. At this moment, many states do not have a comprehensive distribution plan for the vaccine with a clearly laid out prioritization schedule, storage plan, ring strategy, executed pharmacy and clinic contracts, etc … Mark my words, in those states money will talk. That is, people with money will move to the front of the line and get vaccinated ahead of those who should be getting first dibs/priority. In recent weeks, the executive branch has been mostly silent on this very important issue.

This is just one of many articles on this topic. And this article doesn’t even delve into the priorization issue.

    1. My hope is that wealth will not play a role as to who gets a vaccine. That would be an absolute disgrace. Testing is free of charge, isn’t it?

    2. Joshua …This…

“ But, I’m very alarmed at the normalization of crazy behavior at the top. I’m mystified at our polarization on both sides of the aisle. ”

I already see far left pushing Biden and far right isn’t even right…it is literally the party of trump which equates to conspiracy theories and lies

  5. As Covid-19 has been wiped from the country, New Zealand’s stadiums are filled for rugby and soccer matches. It’s been that way for awhile. Today the national all-star rugby squad from Argentina faced off against New Zealand’s “All Blacks,” perhaps the most dominant national team in any sport for many decades. Prior to the match the NZ team paid tribute to Argentina’s Maradona (soccer star, who died this week), and then did their ritual Maori pre-game. https://twitter.com/AllBlacks/status/1332612973165043713

  6. No eligible QB for the Broncos tomorrow against the Saints
    From Adam Schefter of ESPN
All the QBs on the Broncos’ roster are ineligible to play Sunday against the Saints after being deemed high-risk, close contacts, sources tell ESPN.
None were wearing masks at the time of exposure, per source.

Broncos will not be forfeiting, per source.
Short of luring GM John Elway out of retirement, it sets up as the most unexpected NFL scene of 2020. Broncos have no QBs for a game against the Saints.

  7. My son’s private school is – in person full time with small cohorts of 16 boys with no overlapping classroom space per cohort so if a student is diagnosed only 16 students and 4 faculty need quarantine.

So far school had one case in sept which did not spread.

We also must sign daily affidavits and commit to not travel out of state this year.

    Annual tuition almost 40k.

Cost of HVAC improvements and campus renovations for covid – 1.5 million.

    School endowment- 25 million.

2 americas – that is what we have – which is also – I believe – the definition of a 3rd world country – 2 completely different economies in one space.

I am constantly grateful and completely disgusted by the fact that my child’s reality is so different from other students a mile down the road in public school and that covid will further increase the inequalities in every way. I make Sammy vow daily to appreciate his insane privilege and to commit to using these gifts and work hard to be successful enough to help other people.

But that is not nearly enough – we have to fix this country. Starts with education- because if we have ignorance nothing else will stick.

    1. Oh Mama. . Wow

I did have an elementary start at Belmont Day School, but …. As great a Belmont public school that I attended and the amazing system in Sutton that we have, your words ring so very true. Sadly, it isn’t the school system but the political nonsense around it.

I know first hand that because of who you are that Sammy understands all you show him by example

      1. Thanks Vicki – I just get so frustrated by how incredibly unfair and extreme the differences are right now on the playing fields for these kids. Of course I see it at work too. I do high net worth estate tax mitigation by day and then volunteer/do philanthropic work at night – seeing 2 Americas every day breaks my heart.

Sammy’s school somewhat redeems itself by offering full scholarships to kids from both the suburbs and Boston. Happily Sammy’s very first two best friends were Black and Brown respectively and both lived in town in Dorchester and JP, and one is from a non traditional family. So at least Sammy gets to see there’s a real world out there somewhere that’s made up of people of all shades of skin tone and families of all types – even if it hasn’t quite made it to the suburbs yet!

However we are also moving soon – I’m hoping to move back to Arlington which still feels like it’s retained its character from when we lived there 25 years ago – as you can tell I really don’t recognize Concord at all anymore.
