While U.S. and French high courts are critical of coronavirus-related limits on sizes of religious gatherings, the U.S. Supreme Court views religious freedom as an absolute right, while the French Council of State demands a scientific basis for limits.
Does the idea of criticality enter into these court decisions? A remote religious service may not be the same as an in-person one, but it provides more value than a remote dental procedure!
Yes, Thanks Joshua.
I wonder if at some point, there will be one of those huge churches on tv that attracts 100-200+ that will want to gather and go to the courts to argue about their “rights of assembly”.
Sorry but you have me in stitches. Love that comment
I love remote church. I’ve never been one to need a building to support my faith.
According to Dr. Fauci…
“A surge within a surge”.
Shaking my head. I just don’t know why we are not back at phase 1. Baker speaks at 12. If he says one thing about getting back to school, I may throw the TV
Sutton just went full remote until December 11 because of so many cases in the schools….you know, the place kids are the a safest. And it is worth repeating, they are from the youngest to oldest and not just oldest
Vicki I’m not sure what’s wrong with him but he’s a totally different Governor & not a very good one now in my opinion ( mind you I’ve never had a real issue with this guy . Baker is handling this much Better .
I think he is facing the problem of individuals and not businesses spreading the virus. It is hard to close a business if businesses are not the source. I am so sick of people doing what they know is wrong
Last line I meant Walsh is handling this much better not Baker .
Good luck with your procedure tomorrow, John.
Good luck from me also.
Thank you both getting ready to leave work I’ll be back next year lol
I’ve never been a big fan of Walsh. I’m rethinking that. I know folks that I redirect a lot who are so I’m thinking I missed something
Joshua will read your article soon. Been fixing Christmas decorations, watching baker and finishing Christmas shopping. Thank you for posting these
Vicki, what is Walsh proposing now for Boston?
No idea. I have just thought he’s been a step ahead of baker on some things Sorry
Got my Christmas tree today, as well as a wreath. Will decorate soon. It’s been a tough year, so we might as well enjoy the festive lights for as long as possible.
New Zealand’s genuinely pro-life policies have saved lives. Additionally, the NZ economy’s recovery is in full swing. Its GDP decline was half the U.S. Unemployment numbers are significantly better than the U.S. Taiwan didn’t even have a recession. Korea’s was minuscule. Both Taiwan and Korea have exemplary records on Covid-19.
Today’s hospitalization numbers are alarming in the U.S. Poised for yet another record number of hospitalizations. My guess is we’re at 97k nationwide, heading for 100k soon. Keep in mind that the bar for hospitalization is higher than it was – ie, harder to get admitted – because of shortages in staff and capacity limits throughout the heartland. Already well over 2,000 deaths. European deaths are still high in Italy, UK, and Germany (lagging indicator), but other indicators are receding, quite rapidly in some countries.
Great article, Joshua. If you listened to baker today, you know places of worship have Indeed been spreaders in MA
I have attended multiple services virtually, included here in Sutton. It is an amazing experience.
I digress and I do not understand how any religion would support risking the lives of others. But that is just me
Re New Zealand…..it seems Biden Is working with its powers that be. Impressive doesn’t begin to describe
The latest poll regarding the vaccine:
58% Yes
42% No
Why still such distrust from the public about a vaccine that’s 95% effective especially given the latest surge in cases? What do we have to lose at this point?
I would answer no initially and I’m a person who gets vaccines. I have a distrust for first vaccines based on history; but once I know it is safe, I will get it. This year was the first year for a quadrivalent flu vaccine for over 65. The documentation I read was that they will have it again next year if it does the job. I got the quad for under 65. I’ll wait. First shingles shot was live so you could not be near children not vaccinated as yet for chicken pox …all my grands fit that category,…and then I was advised not to get it when Mac went thru chemo
I’m betting many of that 42% are thinking the same. Trump has had his finger in too much so naturally makes folks skittish
The difficulty with the vaccine debate is that bad outcomes are incredibly rare but do occur. As an example, a prior coworker of mine lost a sister to GB syndrome which occurred due to a flu shot reaction. She watched her sister literally get paralyzed slowly inch by inch until she died when she couldn’t breathe.
So she doesn’t get an annual flu shot and I understand why. I didn’t get a flu shot in 2010 when I was pregnant as they weren’t yet sure if pregnant women should get them.
My husband’s childhood friend was semi paralyzed due to a bad polio inoculation in Morocco in the 70’s.
So I guess it’s difficult because there is an absolute public health reason why we should require vaccinations (I am in this camp fwiw) but there’s an equally compelling reason why libertarian minds believe forcing vaccinations is nothing short of inhumane.
Perhaps if we can start with acknowledgement of the validity of the other point of view we can at least start a discussion – but we always seem to start with outrage. Or at least utter scorn.
It can be done. Reasonable mitigation measures can be put in place and turn things around, as these countries prove [unfortunately many states in our country are unwilling to pursue a rational and prudent course of action]:

Speaking of positivity, this video from Pure New Zealand certainly does the trick. New Zealand’s awesome record on Covid-19 is something the country should be immensely proud of. https://twitter.com/PureNewZealand/status/1333893888738807814
