So, while I’m cautiously optimistic about 2021 I’m not ruling out the possibility of several major hitches which could involve the vaccines’ efficacy over time.
I do not share your optimism Joshua. I believe more like 2022 for complete normalcy. Hopefully I will be proven wrong.

2020-2022
If nothing else, the first pandemic lasted two years, it makes sense this one will as well. Overall human behavior is quite similar, unfortunately.
Typical viral evolution is to more contagious but less lethal. Survival “tactic”.
Survival for “whom”?
TK is correct. Survival for the virus. Typically virus strains become more contagious but often less lethal. Let’s hope that this is the case.
UK government is concerned enough so that it is now re-implementing a lockdown over the holiday period, confined to the area – London and the Southeast of England – where the novel strain has been identified.
Italy has joined several other European countries on the continent in re-implementing a hard lockdown over the holidays.
Government ministers have said that they hope to at least contain the spread and bend the curve before mass vaccination begins in late January.
More contagious/less lethal still doesn’t make me feel any better.
True. It’s not a great tradeoff.
I remain cautiously optimistic about the second half of 2021. Full return to normalcy? Probably not until the end of the year. But, I do think that a combination of the virus running its course and vaccinations will lead to improvement down the line.
In the meantime, we’re in the throes of the worst days of the pandemic.
Then I guess my 2022 prediction for normalcy pretty much matches your timeline?
London is now in its harshest lockdown. This was just announced this afternoon. Starting Monday they may not let people into the city, or let city residents leave the city. While I’m still hopeful my daughter can fly to Boston on the 23rd, she and I are getting increasingly worried. She’ll call the U.S. embassy on Monday, and also the airline and local NHS health authority. We’ll see. It’s been a hellish year. I’ve been cut off from my daughter for 10 months and haven’t seen her in 12 months. My son’s cut off from his mother for 10 months and hasn’t seen her in 12 months. No end in sight. Very depressing.
I would be curious as to how the Royal Family has been doing. I haven’t heard one way or the other. Has Buckingham Palace been under lockdown since the beginning? In a way, I hope so.
As for Harry and Meghan, I recently heard that Meghan had a miscarriage over the summer. So sorry. I hope it wasn’t Covid related.
It is horrifically discouraging to see other countries and a few other states take steps to curtail what is an out of control spread while our governor just lectures. I’ve received about 8 txts a day asking me to limit contact this holiday. Does baker really think anyone is listening other than those who planned to do this to begin with
C-19 for 12-20 is ready. As we move through the holiday season I am sad that we’ve lost so many, a lot of them that didn’t have to die from this. But with all of the bad decisions, ignorance, and loss surrounding this, I still look for positives, such as the workers ranging from doctors and all health care workers to Mr. or Mrs. Normal who have an overnight job stocking shelves as best they can so people can still get what they need. I also look forward to a time, while not soon enough, is not actually that far away when we will be moving beyond this, hopefully smarter as a whole.

The virus is `outsmarting’ us, as it evolves over time. Probably not more lethal, but it does present a set of challenges. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-12-19/u-k-says-new-covid-strain-can-spread-more-quickly
