Not sure what Baker is doing at this point. I understand his desire to open schools. But, I’m puzzled at the very least by his very poor record on vaccinations, and today’s announced lifting of restaurant restrictions. I certainly want the restaurants to remain going concerns. But, that can be done by way of direct payments by the federal government.
Massachusetts has not had an enviable record on Covid-19, and that won’t improve if we have both an inadequate vaccine rollout and little or no mitigation effort.
I just heard that we “could” get back to normalcy in the fall.
What about it Joshua?
Frankly, with this sluggishness of vaccine distribution I won’t hold my breath now that I think about it.
Maybe fall “2022” more realistic?
I’m hopeful we can return to a semblance of normalcy by fall of this year. But, we need to do a much better job on vaccination and mitigation. Frankly, the vaccine supply issues worry me at this point, with 12 states running out this week, including much of New York.
The Biden plan looks good on paper. But, the devil is in the details. And, I’ll be brutally honest I am NOT impressed. The mask “mandate” is something that’s already in effect in trains, public transit, and airports. He’s adding all federal facilities, but even there mask wearing wasn’t an issue! It’s mostly symbolic. The plan barely mentions other mitigation measures, which I believe are far more important than masks alone: Distancing, strict gathering size and visitor limits, and reducing non-essential activities until we’ve reached a critical mass of vaccinated people. He wants to speed up vaccinations with the use of mass vaccination halls (FEMA would organize), but you got to have the supply chain figured out first.
I think the stimulus and economic recovery plan is excellent, but will face considerable GOP opposition. Compromise now to preempt a lengthy battle in Congress, and to ensure there’s a workable bill that’s passed by March.

You may ask why Europe is being so vigilant at this point, and we’re not. Well, this article may explain it. The current situation in Spain and Portugal, where the B117 variant is becoming more prevalent, should raise red flags among policymakers here in the U.S. https://www.cidrap.umn.edu/news-perspective/2021/01/officials-warn-threat-europe-variant-covid-19
