Massachusetts data is very encouraging. Test positivity is less than 3%. Numbers of cases have remained steady but much lower than 2 or 3 weeks ago.
Nationwide, still encouraging data, though some areas (Texas) still having reporting issues due to the storm. Cases today will likely reach 75k, which will probably be the 7-day average as well. Test positivity is hovering around 5.4%, which continues the downward trend. Hospitalizations continue to decline, though not as steep as cases. Deaths are decreasing, though not as quickly as one would have hoped. Around 2.5k deaths reported today.
Will we thread the needle? That is, vaccinate at such a rate that it will preempt the B117 and other variants from penetrating. I hope so. Time will tell. Vaccinations this week are down a bit compared to last week, due to weather issues. Still, we’re vaccinating at a steady clip.
In the U.K. PM Johnson has laid out a plan that will include some limited reopening 3 weeks from now, but also includes restrictions that will continue until July. He hasn’t said specifically which restrictions.
Other European countries appear to be taking a similarly cautious route. Certainly far more restrictive than the U.S.
Global deaths today are around 11.5k, lower than the peak of 17.5k a couple of weeks ago, but much higher than previous peaks in the summer and spring of 2020.
Global total deaths are approaching 2.5 million, with calculations of excess mortality around 3.3 million.
Just received a CodeRed message stating the State is no longer supporting local vaccination sites. You will now have to go to one of the larger vaccination sites and this includes the latest group of 65+ that was just approved for vaccinations.
I just heard that the MA Vaccine website crashed this morning.
C-19 for 2-18 is ready (if anyone actually needs it at this late hour). 😉
