Dr. Fauci believes that masks will still be required in 2022 until cases get down as close to “zero” as possible.
Joshua, do you think he is referring to cases nationwide or worldwide?
Nationwide.
On masks, I think certain places like airplanes and trains will probably continue to require masks through this year and into early 2022. But, I disagree respectfully with Fauci that masks will be commonplace throughout 2022.
Also, while it would be nice to have zero cases, it’s not likely. If cases can get down to numbers that would be seen in a normal flu year that would be sufficient, in my view. We’re clearly not yet there. But, we will be by the end of this year, and perhaps as soon as summer.
He did say that he doesn’t expect cases to actually get down to “zero” itself, just as low as possible.
Wonderful video of Pakistani children celebrating the reopening of school after a yearlong closure due to Covid. The school’s surroundings – mountains – are truly spectacular.
I liked seeing the boy leading the group in the dance, but also one of the girls who was snapping her fingers and dancing.
Teachers unions are holding things up here in this country. Most parents want their kids back in the classroom.
I think you’re right.
By the way, here is the U.K,’s road map towards lifting of restrictions. All restrictions to be lifted by June 21st. I may aim to fly there then. The road map details the continued limits over the next few months on social contacts (we’ve actually never experienced these kinds of limits in this country; or at least not enforced with fines). But it does offer a staged process by which limits will be lifted. I must say it’s a whole lot more detailed and clear than anything that any state in the U.S. has thought of. https://www.ft.com/content/79dd1dd4-09c2-4ce7-aeb7-3ee7953b7877
My only fear is that the U.S. will be several months behind the U.K. which will mean U.S. visitors will still have to quarantine. I could still go, but not being able to walk around makes the trip less worthwhile.
And yet cdc says teachers don’t need to be vaccinated for schools to reopen. I understand it says if distancing isn’t in place and masks are not worn. I can’t imagine anyone is foolish enough to believe kids keep masks on 100% of the time. And to reopen, most schools need to move to a three foot minimum.
Listening to people, I feel it will be a state by state basis in terms of when things get back to normal. Like here in the VI, they plan to have 70% of the population fully vaccinated by the end of spring. Many of my fellow colleagues will have their second dose over the next 2 weeks, I am getting my second dose next week. Give it 3 weeks to get that max immunity. In the meantime areas like NY and California it could take until Fall.
My one question is, we do not necessarily know how long these vaccines will last which to me makes me concern for 2022 Winter if these vaccines only work for a year. It would make sense for people to get the vaccine in the Fall like we do with the flu shot but with people getting in the spring, we will likely see people getting in the spring instead of Fall which I would think would be when we would need it more.
