Sunday March 7 2021 Forecast (7:38AM)

DAYS 1-5 (MARCH 7-11)

A large area of low pressure that has been sitting over the Canadian Maritime Provinces for the last few days delivering late winter cold to us will pull away today as an area of high pressure slides slowly eastward from the Great Lakes keeping us breezy and cold but bright for today. Monday, this high will sink a bit more to the southeast through the Ohio Valley and the cold air will ease up a bit more on us with more dry weather. A weak trough of low pressure will pass through the region early Tuesday with some cloudiness and a possible snow shower as it will still be cold, but a quick warm-up ensues after the passage of this trough with a good chance that much of the region breaks into the 50s during Tuesday. A little bubble of high pressure behind this trough will keep the winds light enough on Wednesday so while the warm-up continues inland, it may be temporarily delayed at the coast due to the development of a sea breeze. But Thursday, the main high center will be along and offshore of the Middle Atlantic Coast and the boundary of Canadian cold will still be to our north, and that will become the warmest day for most of the region, except once again temperature will be significantly modified and cooler where a southwest wind comes off ocean water along the South Coast and in the irregularly shaped land areas along the East Coast of MA that sit north and east of water (example, Nahant and parts of Cape Ann).

TODAY: Sunny. Highs 33-40. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

TONIGHT: Clear. Lows 20-27. Wind W up to 10 MPH.

MONDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 38-45. Wind W 5-15 MPH.

MONDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear evening then clouds with a possible snow shower overnight. Lows 25-32. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.

TUESDAY: Early clouds then mostly sunny. Highs 48-55. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 35-42. Wind W 5-15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 58-65 except cooler South Coast and some East Coast areas. Wind SW up to 10 MPH but probable sea breezes.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 40-47. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.

THURSDAY: Partly cloudy. Highs 61-68 except cooler South Coast. Wind SW 10-20 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (MARCH 12-16)

Our area at least starts out mild on March 12 but we’ll have to watch for the timing of a cold front from the north to see if we make it through the day in the mild air or turn drastically cooler, which will happen at some point before or by March 13. Both days have the potential for unsettled weather, the first with the front, the second with a possible wave of low pressure moving along the boundary after it’s gone by. High pressure should bring dry/chilly weather for March 14 before we have to watch for additional unsettled weather in the March 15-16 time frame.

DAYS 11-15 (MARCH 17-21)

Cold Canada, warm US Southeast, and we will be in between the two, in the battle zone, probably on the colder side of it. This results in a potential for wintry precipitation at some point during this period.

  1. Thanks TK!

If it wasn’t for this blog, I would have already put my shovel and ice melt away. The tv mets certainly haven’t hinted at any more frozen precipitation potential down the road as far as I know.

The only “signs of spring” I’ve seen so far are the snowdrops in my backyard. 🙂

  2. A delightful start to my morning commute to work today…only to be plunged back into “morning darkness” next Sunday right on cue at this time with one setting of the clock. I will enjoy the precious few remaining days of this upcoming week.

    My annual DST rant. 🙁

    1. I’m looking forward to the later sunrises for a little while again so I can return to the coast for some additional sunrise photos. 🙂 It doesn’t last long and then it’s right back to where we were, then even earlier…

      1. Only until about mid-April or so… 😉

Although since DST starts a bit later than recent years, the light may return sooner…late March/early April?

    1. We have the perfect geography over the largest area for their formation.

Ironically, the last decade we have seen some of the lowest tornado numbers in recorded history. Been in a tornado drought, so to speak.

  3. Well with just over 12 hours of voting left, my photo from the third floor stairway window at the WHW headquarters continues to run in the lead in the NWS Boston winter photo contest. As of 11:00 a.m. the current vote count is 1,046, with the second place photo from Saugus Iron Works having 673 votes. I am not going to be certain that I win this thing until we hit 11:59 p.m. tonight and my photo still leads. Never take anything for granted.

  4. I had never seen the movie Invictus before and it was released in 2009. How I missed that, I’ll never know.

I just completed watching a few minutes ago.

In any case, it is a wonderful movie. Nelson Mandela was a very very special person. Amazing movie!

Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon were superb!

    Here is the trailer:

    1. I have not seen. I heard some first person experiences from Mac. As you know his family lives there for a few years during apartheid. Thank you. Added to my list

  5. From Judah Cohen
The message from the GFS and Canadian ensembles this morning is – if you live in the Midwestern or Northeastern US don’t put away the #snow shovels just yet. There is an increasing chance of snow starting next week.

    1. I didn’t think I had a shot at the top 10 let alone winning the thing. It’s in reach. 🙂

  6. Thanks, TK!

Two great wildlife sightings during breakfast this morning:

A hawk on an elevated branch in our yard, very still except for the head turning, scanning the area for its breakfast, and…

(later), a squirrel having its breakfast at our bird feeder and doing an unplanned “loop” around the plank on which it was standing in order to avoid a fall while reaching for the feeder!

    1. I heard a screaming hawk the other day at the hospital as I was about to exit an interior side door at the hospital at 7am last week . I mean this thing was screaming I wished I had saw it . Lots of hawks we have seen at the Hospital.

      1. That was me screaming after a tough week of hybrid teaching Spanish to high school freshmen! :0 🙂

So glad family members are able to get vaccinated, SSK!!!! So happy for you!!!!

  7. Thanks, TK! Hi, everyone!

Pulling for your photo, TK, in that NWS contest!!!!

Please hold off the cold front Friday to after 9 pm. The kids have their first varsity football game in their brand new sports stadium. It’s Senior Night for the players, cheerleaders, twirlers and band. I feel so badly for the seniors: no junior prom, homecoming, senior trip, severely modified athletics seasons, no shows, concerts…

They need a nice Friday night to celebrate something!!!!

  8. Just curious. Anyone here planning to watch the Oprah interview of Meghan Markle & Prince Harry? 🙂

    Tonight on CBS-TV/8-10 p.m.

    1. My wife is . Since I have the hockey game on now I told her to watch it down here as she was going to go up into our bedroom. I could care less but she gets into that drama lol .

    2. I will be watching my Rangers take on the Penguins as they go for their 4th straight win.

  9. Thank you, TK.

    Congratulations on your photo!

The past 2 days are absolute 10’s in my book. I’m a bit forlorn knowing days like these – consecutive clear, sunny, chilly days – are not likely to repeat this season. It will get cold again in spurts, but I think it’s doubtful the wonderful winter chill with cloudless skies (with lovely shades of blue; so clear, too) on consecutive days are in the cards until December. Spoke to my daughter in London today. She completely understands where I’m coming from. There it’s often so gray and there’s never a cloudless day in winter. She marveled at the 2 or 3 cloudless days she experienced in Boston in December.

    1. Omg. I didn’t know you won. A Sutton photographed friend just told me you did. Congratulations

  10. 18z op GFS is quite snowy.
18z op parallel GFS is snowy, but not quite as snowy as its cousin.

    1. As far as the 2 legit chances for accumulation snow across a good portion of SNE, yes, absolutely a chance for it to verify. I don’t know about the exact #’s on the GFS verifying, especially in northern NJ. 😉

  11. I just noticed the 31 inches its showing for Northern NJ and the 26 inches for my area.

The current tally from #1 to #10 on the contest. The photo from yours truly sits atop the standings with just under an hour of voting to go.

These #’s have hardly changed since the end of the afternoon so I think this is very close to the final tally.
