I have to think more on this. My inclination is that we will not be free of covid until every corner of the world (as realistically as possible) has been vaccinated. In that light, I think I’d support this. But there are very reasoned arguments on both sides
Globally, I haven’t seen data as bad as I’m seeing today since early January. India’s increase in cases, hospitalizations, and deaths is dramatic (7-fold increase in 1 month). Brazil had nearly 4,000 deaths yesterday. Down to 3,400 today, but that’s a tremendous toll. Countries bordering Brazil are doing poorly. France’s ICU usage is now well over 5,000 and rising by nearly 1,000 in 8 days. Other countries in Europe are peaking, with very high case and hospitalization numbers. Death rate is lower, certainly based on a case fatality rate, but absolute deaths are rising. The lower CFR has to do with a younger population that’s sick and has a better chance of survival, but is still entering the hospital and ICU at rates we haven’t seen during the whole pandemic. Ontario, Canada is now in a 4-week lockdown. Its case numbers as well as several other provinces look concerning, but aren’t as bad as Europe’s.
U.S. case numbers continue to rise, test positivity is increasing, hospitalizations are rising incrementally at this point nationwide (though in several states are increasing at a rapid clip). Perhaps the most concerning statistic is deaths: Have increased by almost 10% in the last 9 days. We’re not doing as badly as, say, France. But, we’re entering yet another tough period.
Bright spots globally are Israel and the U.K. Vaccines work. If we can get another 75-90 million vaccinated we should be on a much better trajectory.
Ontario’s case numbers are actually less than Massachusetts. But, vaccination rate is not as high as Massachusetts, especially in the 60-70 year range.
In the comment section you’ll notice how most Canadians want more restrictions imposed, not less. It’s an interesting phenomenon; clearly very different attitude here in the U.S.
I spoke with my brother in law in CA Bay Area. A lot of vaccines have opened up for under 50. Amazing as I believe CA has a few more folks than MA
Restaurants now have distanced outdoor dining. No indoor yet in his area.
some friends and I were able to go and play some ball today, it was great. It was also great that we were all able to do our fist pumps and high fives.
It is amazing how special things we once just took for granted are
by the way, if anyone wants a vaccine vacation, the USVI is letting tourist get vaccinated.
Joshua, I have a question. I believe the initial vaccine and booster are same dose. But why aren’t they giving a lesser dose for smaller adults?

Wow if that doesn’t warm your heart, nothing will.
I got my first vaccination! Pfizer. 🙂
My second dose in 21 days on April 22.
Nice.
Good to hear, Philip!
European (on the continent) vaccination rate is too slow. It’s got to be faster. or they’ll grind through another year of this. https://twitter.com/itosettiMD_MBA/status/1377713573770764288/photo/1
