I was watching the PBS Newshour, and they noted that 62% of adults are unvaccinated. After thinking about it, I’m not certain now if that is the U.S. or the world.
Joshua can you confirm?
Either way, I wish those stats were reversed.
Thank God I only have a sore arm from the vaccine.
That’s good news Jimmy. I just had a stiff arm as well. Are you done now?
Wonderful news, JJ!
70% of MLB players, staff and personnel have now been fully or partially vaccinated.
Now if only the U.S. population as a whole had those numbers.
Philip I am doing well thank you. I said if all I get is a sore arm I would take that and run. I took the day off from work today just in case I had a bad reaction.
Glad to know, JJ.
Several new studies confirm:
1. One dose of mRNA isn’t sufficient. If you skip your second dose you have significantly less immune response than those who take both doses.
2. Preliminary data suggest vaccines have significantly less efficacy against the Indian variant, or B.1.617.
The latter may explain why the U.S. has now banned travel from India, which had more than 400,000 reported cases today (the real number is much higher). Because the crisis – likely driven by the B.1.617 variant – is unfolding over the entire Indian sub-continent – so including Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Nepal, and Bangladesh – I think it’s prudent to impose a ban from those countries as well.
On my run today I was mask-shamed twice: One said, “take your f#@king mask off,” the other more politely “you don’t need a mask.” Needless to say, I don’t care what these people say. What’s disturbing about it is that these are some of the same people who don’t want to be interfered with by government in any way. Yet, they like to try and interfere in another person’s life. If I want to wear a mask outside until the day I die, who the hell cares. Libertarianism means just that: Let people do what they want. It’s not my business what someone else wears. Vice versa should hold as well. Mind you, I don’t wear a mask outside all the time. But on my urban run I’m often within a few feet of others. It’s really busy on the pathways, so, yes, I wear it. Big deal.
Correction on India travel ban. It’s a partial ban, much like the one vis-a-vis Europe. U.S. citizens and permanent residents will still be allowed to travel from India. Also, the ban goes into effect on May 4th.
The big question is will the U.S. be lifting any of the bans it has imposed any time soon; so, for example, the one that bars most European citizens from traveling to the U.S.; and vice versa for the time being.
And, what will the U.K. do?
Philip, to answer your vaccination question, 55% of adult Americans have had at least one dose of vaccine. But the vaccination rate has plummeted; from 3.9 million vaccines/day to less than 1 million/day. That looks to decrease even more in the coming weeks and months. This could present a problem. Too much coronavirus circulating may not be as much of an issue in the summer months, but could make the fall and winter see a resurgence. We’ll have to wait and see.
Well I say yikes but then the US lives in a glass house so…..
Interesting map. Countries currently with the highest reported cases per million people: Sweden and Uruguay. Not India, though I’m confident India is underreporting, so perhaps it would be the worst. Clearly, however, Sweden’s herd immunity strategy failed miserably. I mean epic fail. https://twitter.com/DavidSteadson/status/1388267807150944259/photo/1
So very sad. My friend in NYC as I have said is hoping to see her family in Sweden This summer. Joshua, I know you can relate to that. I need to read more on this. Thanks Joshua

Some policies are way too excessive and restrictive. Australia’s policy of banning its own citizens from returning home (or they face a 5 year jail sentence) is excessive and wrong. Surely, a 14-day mandatory quarantine with Covid-19 testing is sufficient to prevent transmission. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-04-30/australians-flying-home-from-india-could-face-five-years-in-jail?
