EU Commissioner von der Leyen is not getting her way. She wanted a uniform policy across the EU: Allow all U.S. vaccinated passengers in, unconditionally (except perhaps the requirement of a negative PCR test prior to travel). It appears that EU policy will not be uniform, and that dates of changes in policy will be quite variable, too. Some countries – desperate for tourism – will be allowing all U.S. vaccinated travelers in unconditionally by early June (not even a PCR test, and no quarantine). This includes Spain and Greece. Others will require negative PCR tests and may begin allowing travelers in by mid June (eg, France). Still others are imposing conditions, such as mandatory quarantines of 5 to 14 days (eg, Ireland, Germany, Austria), and may not allow travelers in for non-essential travel until some time in July.
The British policy is unchanged. Still a 10 day quarantine, with multiple negative tests required, both before travel and during stay. They’ve also expanded (beyond Bolton) the regions with severe travel restrictions (basically no non-essential travel in or out) to include Kirklees, Bedford, Burnley, Leicester, Hounslow, North Tyneside, and Blackburn with Darwen.
Do you still plan to go over to the U.K. to see your daughter this summer Joshua?
This I agree with. What makes me laugh….not a funny laugh….is that the boards can meet remotely, but kids can’t learn remotely. And I absolutely do not fault school committees. Riley took their power away a few months ago
All NYC public schools will permanently return to in person learning in the fall. Remote learning will be totally dismantled.
The word “dismantled” was exactly what I heard recently on an early morning radio news broadcast.
Stupid is as stupid does. We never learn a darned thing. And I’m
Not referring to covid remote.
Philip, yes, I do still intend to go to London. But, I’ve got to wait and see what the restrictions will be like in 10 weeks time. A lot can change between now and then. My daughter says London is noticeably different, in a good way, than a month ago. More people out and about. In-person school and work are more the norm now. Masks and distancing are required in public indoor spaces. And quarantining is still mandatory for those who do travel abroad. This is why she can’t see her Mom in Holland. If she did that she’d have to quarantine back home (and the authorities do check, and levy massive fines for violators) for 10 days. Now that her work is in person in the office 3 days a week and she just started her new job, she can’t afford to quarantine.
Hopefully in 10 weeks more restrictions will be lifted Joshua. It would be a crying shame if they should go in the other direction.
It’s just been announced that several more regions have been added to the English travel ban. These include Dover, Taunton, Sudbury, Sutton, Worcester, Leominster, Gloucester, and Needham. All non-essential travel is strictly prohibited, and will be enforced by His Majesty’s Governor Baker’s patrolmen. At a press conference in the colony’s capital, Boston, Baker and General Gage indicated that barricades had been established, specifically around the hamlet of Sutton, to prevent unlawful travel and rebellious activity.
Hahahaha. No Uxbridge !
Do you think I can apply for one around our house. We have been thinking about a fence. Makes it easy easier with the dog. This could save a lot of $$
Yes, indeed.
I would be curious as to how many of the 351 cities and towns in MA are named after those U.K. regions.
Lots of them. And when they’re not named after British cities and towns they’re usually Native American names, like Massachusetts and Mashpee.
Uxbridge is one of them.
C-19 for 5-26 is ready.
