  1. Now I am hearing that it could be months before the FDA formerly approves the vaccines for general use.

I don’t get it. What more evidence do they need?

    1. I’m thinking they see something that may be a concern. It would be nice if they were more forthcoming

  2. Joshua hit the nail on the head. In states where vaccination rate is down, there has to be tightening of restrictions.

    1. No worries SC. Subscribe now. Thanks but no thanks. Just a sign of the “times”. The days of free articles went out with the horse & buggy and VHS tapes. 😉

      1. In my apartment I still have a rotary dial phone. It’s in my office. The touch tone landline phone is in my living room. Every time my daughter uses the rotary phone to call, say, her mother in Holland (lots of numbers) she tells me “well, at least this gives my fingers a work-out.” I also have a turn-table with lots of vinyl LPs. In my son’s words, I’m a “dinosaur.”

        1. I guess you have me beat. I do have a landline touch phone as my main source of contact. I have had my iPhone 6 since 2015 (which was top-of-the-line at the time) in which I use for internet and email.

          1. And I have two “over the air” TVs with a converter box on top of them. I never had a desire for cable or satellite as I have more than enough monthly bills as is.

            1. I’m very similar. No cable at the moment. Have had basic cable from time to time. But I watch so little TV it’s not worth it. And that bill, which was $9 in 2009, is now $28 in 2021. Similar percentage increase to my health insurance premiums over that period, as well as some other things as well. And they say there’s been little or no inflation. Hogwash.

One of the reasons I still have my now $5/month cell service plan (Verizon) with a flip-phone from the year 2000 is because of the high costs of cellphones and plans. I hardly ever use my old cellphone, only when traveling, and only for emergencies. Steve Jobs was and Tim Cook is thankful that I’m an anomaly. Otherwise, Apple would cease to exist.

              1. I love to hear all this! Back in 2005, we “temporarily” suspended our TV cable service while I was renovating the living room. We haven’t had cable since then. (And I did finish the work on the living room.)

When our boys were younger, we called the TV the Bob the Builder Display Device – all it did was display VHS tapes.

I too have a flip phone with texting disabled and lots of vinyl LPs.

        2. My son does not have cable or WiFi. He has rebuilt my 1960s KLH stereo which of course thrills me. They love the sound. I’m not a fan of one generation did some things better but vinyl sure beats digital, etc. I spent countless hours moving speakers around my room to get perfect separation. It seems my son inherited the obsession of finding the perfect sound.

  3. Vicki, that’s fascinating to hear about your son! And really cool, the 1960s KLH stereo.

  4. SClarke, great to hear from you. We should form a flip-phone club.

Watched a bit of Born Free the other day to celebrate my son’s birthday. Just wanted to let him know that he absolutely loved that movie when was a little kid. He especially liked Elsa, the lioness. The only copy I have of the movie is a VHS tape.

    1. That is awesome Joshua. Yeah and allThat was one of the few books I read cover to cover in sixth grade (I think) and then living free. I still have both original books

  5. California has been doing very well. Still is doing well compared to where it was 4 months ago. But, I can detect an upward trend in cases and test positivity in the past 7-10 days. It’s subtle but definite. Hospitalizations are no longer going down.

Idaho and Wyoming are trending in the wrong direction.

Florida is hard to gauge, because the state no longer provides updates on a daily basis. Sometimes the state doesn’t provide any update for 5-day stretches (this should not be allowed to happen, as it’s an infectious disease, but somehow the federal government doesn’t compel Florida to compile on a daily basis). When it does it reveal data appears that several counties are seeing significant upticks.

The other states I mentioned yesterday are seeing continued case growth.

Good news is that so far the Northeast, Mid Atlantic, and Midwest are doing well on all indicators. Doesn’t mean Delta isn’t here. But does mean it’s not infecting as many people because of a highly vaccinated population.

    1. Thank you. That makes absolute sense to me. Also makes me feel better. I don’t follow approval because I don’t want it to be hurried
