Thursday July 1 2021 Forecast (7:38AM)

DAYS 1-5 (JULY 1-5)

Some folks like to start their long weekends on Thursdays, a fair amount start them on Friday, and with Independence Day falling on a Sunday, the holiday will be observed on Monday for many, so we’ll just call this 5-day forecast period the outlook for the holiday weekend. It won’t be a repeat of Memorial Day Weekend, but it is not going to be a stellar period of weather either. The front that moved down into the region yesterday with thunderstorms, breaking our heatwave, sits nearby today and while it dissipates another front will move down from the north and continue to send cooler and less humid air into the region. But less humid is only relative in this case, because the air will actually be quite humid, just have lower dew points, and lower temperatures. We’re going to see a period of showery weather especially tonight into Friday as moisture travels northeastward along these frontal boundaries and upper level low pressure moves into the region. This upper low will take its time exiting during Saturday and Sunday, but the surface air flow which starts out northeasterly on Saturday will turn more westerly by Sunday. This will result in improving weather during those days, but not absent of a little drizzle or a few showers Saturday, and maybe a few pop up showers Sunday. If you want a day to feel like full summer again, that’ll be Monday, when we’re into a westerly air flow and a much warmer air mass arrives.

TODAY: Lots of clouds, partial sun at times. Isolated showers until mid afternoon. Scattered showers and thunderstorms mid afternoon on. Highs 75-82. Dew point near 70 falling to middle 60s. Wind W 5-15 MPH.

TONIGHT: Cloudy. Numerous showers. Chance of thunderstorms. Areas of fog. Lows 60-67. Dew point falling to near 60. Wind variable 5-15 MPH becoming N to NE.

FRIDAY: Cloudy. Widespread showers in the morning, becoming more scattered during the afternoon. Areas of fog. Highs 65-72, coolest coast. Dew point middle to lower 60s. Wind NE 5-15 MPH.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Isolated showers. Patchy fog. Lows 55-62. Dew point upper to middle 50s. Wind NE 5-15 MPH.

SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy to partly sunny. Scattered showers possible, favoring central MA, eastern CT, and RI. Areas of fog and drizzle especially eastern coastal areas in the morning. Highs 65-70 coast, 70-75 inland. Dew point lower to middle 50s. Wind NE 5-15 MPH.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Mostly to partly cloudy. Lows 56-63. Dew point lower 50s. Wind NE up to 10 MPH becoming variable.

SUNDAY: Partly sunny. Isolated afternoon showers possible, mainly southwestern NH and central MA. Highs 70-77, coolest coast. Dew point upper 50s. Wind variable to W 5-15 MPH.

SUNDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 60-67. Dew point upper 50s. Wind SW under 10 MPH.

MONDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 78-85. Dew point near 60. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (JULY 6-10)

Briefly hotter with a chance of showers and thunderstorms from an approaching cold front July 6. Front settles just to the south July 7 with additional clouds and possible showers favoring southern areas. Seasonably warm and drier weather July 8-9 before clouds and showers return at the end of the period with a disturbance moving into the region.

DAYS 11-15 (JULY 11-15)

Near to above normal temperatures and an increase in humidity but with a slightly better chance of showers and thunderstorms as a frontal boundary hangs out in the region.

  1. Good morning and thank you TK.

Decent T-storm around 6:30 PM or so. 0.35 inch from that.
Produced a double rainbow when done as sun broke out quickly. My son got some nice shots and I will share in next post. Nice gusty winds just before the rain started. I’d say 35-45 mph ish. Nothing severe, but very windy.

T-storm itself was more garden variety imho. NOT remotely
    severe.

Another 0.20 inch from fringe effects of additional cells.

    1. Here are a couple of shots out son took.

This one shows a narrow bolt of lighting between the 2 rainbows. It is more to the right. Look carefully.

This one shows the double rainbow above our house (the one on the left). The house is illuminated by a weird sunshine
that gives the house a glow. The actual color of the house is really a nice shade of yellow. 🙂

  2. The lightning In pembroke last night after 8:30 was one like I’ve never seen & long lasting . It was like daytime at times , very impressive .

  3. Thanks TK. How much rain are we looking at in my area SW of Boston between this afternoon and through the weekend? Heavy downpours or more intermittent and showery in nature? Want to put stuff on the lawn but don’t want it to wash away in heavy rains either.

      1. Thank you kind sir! I guess it’s ok if we get 2” of rain, I’m just concerned if we get that in an hour or stretched out over 3 days with no heavy downpours

  4. I flew into Logan last night around 8:20 and the lightening display was absolutely spectacular. For the nervous flyers on the plane, not so much, but I enjoyed it. The downside was that we had to wait on the ground for about an hour because the ramp was shut down.

  5. I completely agree. Equally as important to keep the ramp workers safe. Their job is dangerous enough without adding torrential rain and lightening!

  6. 1st pitch at Fenway today at 1:10pm, It’s the last game vs the Royals this season, so they’ll do everything they can to get the game in. I’m 6 rows off the field down by the Pesky Pole. What are the odds that they get 9 full innings in without me getting wet? Most of the 6z runs of the short-range hourly guidance (HRRR/RRFS/NAM/WRF/RDPS) all have rain into Boston at either 20z or 21z, so it’ll be close.

    1. Just hope for NO extra innings and a relatively fast paced game and of course for the Sox to WIN!!

      1. I’m trying to wrap up a big job in Duxbury tonight eta 5pm do you think I’ll get it in .

        1. If you could be done by 5, you may make it. It would be close, If you are starting at 5 which is what I think you mean, it will likely be raining already or just starting or about to start. Good luck. Let’s try to hold it off for a few additional hours.

          1. Starting . I’ve expanded my work from just weekends to now weekends, Wednesday & Thursday late / afternoon evenings . My laborer is getting there at 4 & if it’s a good commute I arrive at 5 & we work till 7:30

  7. Thanks TK !

60 day outlook for Labor Day Weekend, rain 55-60F. About 3 days before and after, sunny and 94F. 🙂 🙂 🙂

    1. Yup, that is 100% accurate and WILL verify for sure.

btw, have you visited Woodstock, VT. yet? Might be a decent take.

  8. Thanks, TK!

I will second SSK’s comments about the intense thunderstorm last night. Wow! Constant lightning, winds to about 40 mph and we got 0.40″ in less than 15 minutes. It was a quick-hitting cell, but, boy, was it intense!

SAK, enjoy the game today. Sox up by 3 games on July 1 and winners of six-in-a-row. The Yankees blew a four-run, ninth inning lead. Your Record Event Report from Storm HQ – Brockton was priceless!!!

  9. Thanks TK.

The last two days have seen bright sunshine, blue skies and heavy downpours at the same time. I don’t recall ever seeing that combo during a heavy snow squall in winter.

  10. Thank you, TK.

Now that the weekend has reached Day 3, could you please give me a “Berkshire Extension” of the forecast? I’ll be out there Saturday afternoon through Sunday night, playing two rehearsals and a concert, safely under a roof but subject to humidity and breeze from open sides. (I suspect I might have to plan for both cold and warm…)

    Thanks so much.

  11. That rainbow yesterday was in the eastern sky. A wonderful experience for me. Glad I was in a perfect position to see it at home just looking out my window in my living room. 🙂

  12. Hello WHW. Could someone give me their best shot AM and PM forecast for P-town this weekend? It would be much appreciated.

    1. Hi Longshot. Happy to see you here. I’m sorry I can’t help with your question but am sure you will hear soon. Hope your weekend in Provincetown is lots of fun

    1. I think I was over-optimistic about the improvement. Ah well, I tried! I was away from looking at info pretty much all day (after I posted) until about midnight. Don’t think the next update will be as optimistic about Saturday. Sunday, still improving at least somewhat.

        1. Probably not but there’s nothing we can do about the weather and forecasting is never going to be perfect.

The customer will survive the experience. 🙂
