It suddenly occurred to me. If I understand correctly, there is still no vaccine approved for children under 12 years of age, even for emergency use until the fall at the earliest, and yet these children will not be required to wear masks indoors or social distance in classrooms upon returning. Isn’t this counterproductive?
Problematic, perhaps.
This said, even with the Delta variant it appears that the <12 are less likely to contract the virus and much less likely to have severe illness. Also, masking and distancing are difficult to enforce in this age group.
Should say, however, that locally, two private schools have done very well with masking and distancing in place. They were open all year, from September 2020 until June 2021. I saw the pupils and staff almost every day. Also, the local Hill House, which has after-school programs , playgroups, and summer camps, has successfully managed to stay open since May of 2020, with masks and distancing protocols in place.
Exactly. That is what a few folks either I have spoken to or a family member has spoken with have said schools need to keep remote until a vaccine is safe.
I get under 12 are not as susceptible but they have had a fair number of positives in that age group in the past year plus who have had Covid. Many of these kids are immune compromised.
C-19 / 7-4 / ready.
