DAYS 1-5 (JULY 11-15)
No big changes. Saturday may not have been stellar but did feature some sun despite lots of clouds for a good part of the day. The region overall saw most of its sun later in the day, and today will be somewhat reversed. The sun will be most dominant early in southeastern NH, eastern MA, and RI, although if you are in areas west of there you may have already lost it as of 7:30 a.m. if you even had any at all, as clouds are prevalent there, and some of them are moving northeastward and will be interrupting the sun in many areas soon. Eventually, the day turns out mostly cloudy, but rain-free. It’s not until later tonight that the rain returns, but this is going to lead to quite the wet and cool day for Monday, as a warm front approaches from the south. And that front will be in no hurry to pass through the region, so even though the best support for rain departs during Monday evening, Tuesday likely ends up as a cloudy and cool day, just with less or no rain. Finally, that front should amble its way northward through the region by Wednesday, but a disturbance from the west is likely to keep lots of clouds around along with triggering the chance of showers and thunderstorms. At this point, I’m not sure on the timing and coverage of those showers/storms, but will sort that out over the next few updates. By Thursday, we’re building high pressure in at the surface and aloft, so it looks like a return to the feel of summer at that time.
TODAY: Partly sunny then mostly cloudy. Highs 68-75 coast, 75-82 interior. Dew point Wind SE up to 10 MPH.
TONIGHT: Cloudy. Rain arriving late evening and overnight. Slight chance of a thunderstorm. Areas of fog. Lows 60-67. Dew point lower to middle 60s. Wind SE up to 10 MPH.
MONDAY: Cloudy. Periods of rain. Chance of thunderstorms. Areas of fog. Highs 65-72. Dew point middle 60s. Wind E up to 10 MPH.
MONDAY NIGHT: Cloudy. Rain tapering off. Areas of fog. Lows 59-66. Dew point near 60. Wind E up to 10 MPH.
TUESDAY: Cloudy. Highs 65-72. Dew point lower 60s. Wind SE up to 10 MPH.
TUESDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Areas of fog. Lows 61-68. Dew point 60s. Wind SE to S up to 10 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: Variably cloudy. Chance of showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Highs 76-83. Dew point middle to upper 60s. Wind S 5-15 MPH.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Patchy fog. Lows 63-70. Dew point lower to middle 60s. Wind SW up to 10 MPH.
THURSDAY: Partly sunny. Slight chance of an afternoon shower or thunderstorm. Highs 80-87, cooler in a few coastal areas. Dew point middle to upper 60s. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.
DAYS 6-10 (JULY 16-20)
The general pattern will feature westerly flow aloft and southwesterly flow at the surface, but a series of disturbances will approach from the west. This pattern features warm to borderline hot weather, higher humidity, and daily opportunities for isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms.
DAYS 11-15 (JULY 21-25)
A similar pattern may continue but with a slightly lesser chance of showers and thunderstorms day to day.
Thanks, TK
So yeah, it will take until Wednesday to get that warm front through. “Just as I suspected”, as we’ve heard on TV a few times. 😉
Should it surprise anybody in the pattern we’ve been in? Nope!
Rinse, wash, repeat
I chuckled at partly sunny, mostly cloudy. Great description
Hood morning and thank you TK
Thanks TK!
It is a delightfully yukky morning on the deck. My glasses keep fogging 😉
Thank you, TK.
I definitely jinxed things when I said about 2 weeks ago that Boston gets a lot of sun in the summer months (compared to, say, Northwestern Europe). Ever since then the sun has only made a few cameo appearances. The forecasts – including TK’s – are beginning to sound like the ones I heard in the Netherlands for many years. You often hear mets there talk about – emphasize – the times during the day that the sun may be out if you’re lucky. And it’s often short periods of time, sometimes as brief as an hour.
First time the solar power on my south facing ring camera has not been able to keep the battery charged.
Do you have a ballpark estimate for rain amounts tomorrow in Natick? My sump pump stopped yesterday and I was hoping to give it a breather. Thanks.
Thanks TK !
Thanks TK.
Muggy in Sutton?

Ha!
Not muggy. WET. The photo is of the church on the common that I attend
I’ll take what we have.

Thanks TK. What areas are you favoring for the rain tomorrow? Some short range models still hinting near and North of the Mass Pike.
And some get the rain to just somewhat South of Boston.
I think the entire area is in play with the steadiest rain in the northern 2/3 of the WHW area.
Thanks!
Thanks TK.
TK, Any thoughts on the weather in Nantucket this week? We are heading there later today and returning Friday. Tomorrow looks wet but hoping to stay mostly dry the rest of the week. We aren’t bringing the car, only the bikes!
Vicki, we are Uxbridge today for the softball tournament. I can attest to the dreary weather out there but at least it’s pleasant temperature wise. They won their first game 5-0 and we will be playing today as long as they keep winning!
Awesome. Enjoy. And good luck.
Tried to change things around to see if I could get there but sadly cannot.
I agree re temp. See my post above for Death Valley.
That’s ok, next time! They just lost their second game so are done for the day. That’s a blessing in disguise though as we are heading to Hyannis now to get the ferry. At least we can get an earlier ferry.
Sorry to hear they lost but always nice to begin a vacation early. Have fun!
Mark, your daughter plays on an excellent team. Great to hear.
Weather isn’t too bad for softball. No blinding sun or scorching heat to contend with.
I’ve looked at several weather sites regarding Nantucket weather. There’s some consistency in what they’re saying. Some rain tomorrow, but not a lot, then dry the rest of the week – cloudy to increasingly partly cloudy/sunny skies as the week progresses. Mid 70s.
It was nice this morning but got really warm and humid the second game. Just as well…emma is done. Two mornings in a row getting up at 530 and 5 games in 2 days. It’s a lot!
Cautiously optimistic on Nantucket. Ive written off tomorrow but am hoping for drier weather thereafter.
I think there´s a chance you might be pleasantly surprised with tomorrow on Nantucket up to early to mid afternoon.
If they stay the the warm, humid sector with a S wind til early afternoon, you might see temps in the mid-upper 70s, with low 70s dewpoints and splashes of sun. Then, mid afternoon, the wind would switch to E and NE, the fog will roll in from the north side of the island and it will cool into the 60s.
Nantucket´s great, have an awesome week !!
I hope you are right, thanks Tom!
Mark…
Since this morning I have not had much time to look at anything new but it would not surprise me if it does not rain all that much at least in terms of the amount of time it falls from the sky. Definitely in the cool sector through Tuesday, trending to the warmer side of things, in a relative sense of course for the remainder of the week.
Thanks! I can deal with that. We are prepared with the rain/cool weather gear either way. I’ll check in and let you know how it goes!
Do you think there will be additional flooding concerns in metro west. I just set up some fitness stuff in the basement and would love lighter rain. Is an inch a good ballpark?
There’s definitely some concern where we are already so saturated but I do think the amounts will be modest enough that we will escape major issues.
0.75-1.50 isolated heavier.
Thanks, TK.
Sun shined all day in Duxbury on the job as I’m burnt .
What is this thing you call sun?
This is the most dismal stretch of summer weather I’ve ever experienced in Boston. And it’s not even close. It’s remarkably wet and so gray. On top of that I got soaked on my bike ride. Steady rain for 45 minutes; then drizzle and light rain before I got home. More flooding in courtyard, though manageable. I feel like I’m in a warm and muggy Scotland, which of course isn’t really a thing as it’s never warm and muggy in Scotland. But it is dismal and gray there often.
I guess that’s why the original colonists named this place “New” England. 😉
New weather post!
