DAYS 1-5 (AUGUST 10-14)
A low pressure near just off the southeastern New England coast near Cape Cod will drift away to the east today and a warm front will move northeastward across the region during this afternoon and early evening. This means today will be a transition day from the cooler and cloudier but humid weather to breaking clouds with an increase in warmth and further increase in humidity. This is setting us up for three days of classic summer heat and humidity Wednesday through Friday as the Bermuda High sits off the US East Coast. Thunderstorm chances will be limited to isolated and mainly well west of Boston Wednesday, greater on Thursday as a trough approaches, and a slight bit less on Friday as the atmosphere may be a little more stable than Thursday, but yet there will still be a chance that day too. Saturday, a cold front will sweep across the region from northwest to southeast, putting an end to the high heat and knocking the humidity down. The timing of this front will determine when the best chance of showers and possible thunderstorms occur, and the coverage of any activity. Leaning toward the morning and/or midday hours for the main impact of this front for the WHW forecast area, but at day 5 there is some uncertainty on this…
TODAY: Mostly cloudy with patchy fog and a possible shower this morning. Becoming partly sunny this afternoon. Highs 77-84, coolest coast. Dew point middle to upper 60s. Wind SE up to 10 MPH shifting to S.
TONIGHT: Partly cloudy. An isolated shower possible. Patchy fog. Lows 66-73. Dew point middle to upper 60s. Wind SW up to 10 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: Partly cloudy. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms favoring central MA and southwestern NH. Highs 88-95. Dew point upper 60s to lower 70s. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Patchy fog. Lows 67-74. Dew point upper 60s to lower 70s. Wind SW under 10 MPH.
THURSDAY: Partly cloudy. Isolated to scattered afternoon thunderstorms. Highs 91-98, cooler in some coastal areas especially the South Coast. Dew point lower to middle 70s. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.
THURSDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Patchy fog. Lows 72-79, warmest in urban centers. Dew point lower to middle 70s. Wind SW under 10 MPH.
FRIDAY: Partly cloudy. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms. Highs 90-97, cooler South Coast / Cape Cod. Dew point lower 70s. Wind WSW 5-15 MPH.
FRIDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 70-77. Dew point upper 60s to lower 70s. Wind WSW up to 10 MPH.
SATURDAY: Variably cloudy. Chance of showers and thunderstorms, especially morning and midday. Highs 82-89. Dew point lower to middle 70s falling into 60s. Wind SW 5-15 MPH shifting to NW.
DAYS 6-10 (AUGUST 15-19)
High pressure is expected to build over the region but centered more to the north, bringing a cooler and less humid stretch of days from the end of the weekend into the middle of next week. May have an increase in humidity and a shower threat by the very end of the period as high pressure shifts to the east.
DAYS 11-15 (AUGUST 20-24)
High pressure should sink to the south opening the door to more humidity and better chances for shower activity again during this period. Also need to keep an eye out for tropical activity to the south mid to late period, pending potential development and movement of one or two systems in the Atlantic Basin.
Thanks, TK.

Good morning and thank you TK.
Thanks, TK.
Sun is out in London. Rainy weather broke early this morning. Still plenty of clouds, but partly sunny, and no rain (yet). 21C, which is 70F or so.
Nice!
Thank you, TK!
Thanks TK !
Thanks TK.
Has anyone seen this? It was on the news last night.
Any comments?

I’ve been reading. Sadly, none of it surprises me. We do have a tendency to make problems …serious problems…political in this country when they have nothing to do with politics.
Thanks TK

Thanks, TK!
The long range on the GFS sure looks very warm to outright hot !
May I ask how long range, Tom? Thank you.
The run goes out to August 26th. The week of Aug 19th – 26th projects very warm on this run.
Long way out there, things can definitely change. 🙂 🙂 🙂
Thank you. !
Hopefully right through winter !!
I hear ya !! 🙂

Here’s the what the recon plane found this morning in terms of flight level winds.
Am I correct that highest winds in top right are 30-34 and 35-40 knots? Or 34ish to 46ish mph?
That is knots. This is flight level winds. I’m guessing somewhere between 5 and 10 thousand feet, but not fully confident in that. The surface winds are usually a percentage of the flight level winds.

This hopefully is the ob from st Thomas … king airport.
it is.
Tom – what kind of temps does longer range model indicate? I am headed to Cape this weekend for vacation and am hoping for nice weather. Thanks.
Longer range: GFS projects 80s and a few days in the 90s. Euro looks warm, but not as hot as GFS as it approaches hour 240 (day 10).
This weekend, whenever the cool front crosses and lowers the humidity, I would think there should be much more comfortable nights and pleasant, warm days for a bit after the cold front passage.
Have fun on the Cape !!
Looking a little closer at the EURO for this coming weekend, it appears to struggle to move the cold front at a fast pace and so, I would definitely keep up to date with TK´s forecast for next weekend, in case there´s a few more showers on the Cape than currently projected.
Thanks. Can’t wait to cross the bridge.
Preferring the faster timing of the front for Saturday at this point.
I have not posted this anywhere as of yet, but I felt today was a good time to talk about it here…
On Saturday morning, my mom suffered a left hemisphere stroke which had a fairly significant impact initially (partial paralysis, inability to communicate), but it was caught literally 90 seconds after it began due to very lucky timing. My brother called her at 11:07am at which time she answered the phone perfectly normal. At 11:09 I passed by her window about to go on a walk (an hour later than I had planned) and noticed she was not able to respond to my call through the window or knocking. I went around to her door and found her in distress, and called 911 immediately, and they arrived in mere minutes and within an hour and a half they had already located and destroyed the blood clot that caused the stroke. There was no hemorrhage. Thankfully she did not fall and was actually still on her feet when I found her.
After steady state for about 24 hours, she started to show improvement in all areas during Sunday which has continued to progress in a positive direction as of last report. She is now communicating in complete sentences with minor difficulty remembering some words to use. She is able to move all her limbs and sit up (with help) though is still fairly weak which is to be expected. Her vitals have been excellent. In general, the outlook is quite positive for recovery, though the speech part may be somewhat slower to improve, which is rather normal for the type of stroke she had (similar to Dick Clark’s).
I’ll be heading up to visit her soon at the hospital. If you could send some good thoughts her way that would be wonderful. 🙂
Thoughts and prayers on a continued positive recovery for your Mom TK!
TK you know how much I adore your mom. My family and I are sending many prayers for your mom, you and your family, and for your moms medical team. Hugs and love !
Thoughts and prayers for your mom, TK !
My prayers are with Mom, you and your family, TK.
Your Mom is a strong woman.
Please don’t worry about us here. Take care of Mom.
TK, sending prayers and good thoughts for your Mom. I am so glad you were able to catch it quickly. They say treatment within 3 hours is key. I hope she continues to improve and be back home with all of you soon!
TK, my thoughts are with you and your Mom. I am hoping she continues to recover. Moms are precious.
Judging from the pending heat in Boston and some of the longer range forecasts, I might want to stay here. Not that rain is fun, but I’d MUCH rather have rain every day than heat and humidity. Oh well, it’s weather and there’s nothing anyone can do about it.
Thoughts and prayers for your mom TK.
Typical August heatwave on the way.
I’m wondering however if Boston will miss hitting 90 3 days in a row. There is the potential that the windfield is weak enough that a sea breeze may kick in on Friday and if it does so early enough Boston can actually fail to reach 90. Right now, I think they will get there but the high temperature may be confined to the lower 90s that day before the seabreeze kicks in…. If it kicks in.
What is a safe bet Is that this will not be even close to a record setter of a heat wave, or spell of hot weather for Boston. The record high temperatures for August 11, 12, and 13 range from 99° to 101°, all set in 1944. Those records are not going anywhere.
Sorry to hear about your mom. Wishing her a speedy recovery!
Tk I’m so sorry to hear this . I hope she has a very quick recovery.
Tk sorry to hear about your Mom. I’ll be praying for her. God Bless!
Your Mom sounds like a strong one, TK.
Good thoughts on the way!

Your mother is very fortunate to have two wonderful sons keeping her safe.
I’m praying for your mom, TK. God was really watching out for her with your walk being delayed! I wish you all much grace and wisdom.
