Sunday August 15 2021 Forecast (8:49AM)

DAYS 1-5 (AUGUST 15-19)

An area of high pressure will control our weather through Tuesday. Its center will determine our wind direction and humidity level, the latter of which will be rather low through 48 hours and only going up a little bit as the high shifts offshore Tuesday, so overall three very comfortable days ahead for mid August. When we get to the middle of the week, it will be time for the return of higher humidity, cloudiness, and eventually the threat of showers as tropical moisture begins to flow into the region from the south.

TODAY: Sunny. Highs 77-84, coolest coast. Dew point near 60 South Coast early otherwise 50s. Wind N to variable up to 10 MPH with coastal sea breezes.

TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Patchy ground fog lower elevations. Lows 55-62. Dew point lower to middle 50s. Wind variable to N under 10 MPH.

MONDAY: Sunny. Highs 76-83, coolest coast. Dew point middle to upper 50s. Wind N to E up to 10 MPH.

MONDAY NIGHT: Clear. Patchy ground fog lower elevations. Lows 57-64. Dew point upper 50s. Wind variable under 10 MPH.

TUESDAY: Partly cloudy. Highs 78-85, coolest South Coast. Dew point upper 50s to 60. Wind variable up to S 10 MPH with coastal sea breezes.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Variably cloudy. Patchy fog. Lows 61-68. Dew point lower 60s. Wind S up to 10 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Mostly cloudy. Highs 78-85, coolest South Coast. Dew point 60s. Wind S 5-15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Patchy fog. Lows 65-72. Dew point 60s. Wind S up to 10 MPH.

THURSDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of showers. Highs 75-82. Dew point upper 60s to lower 70s. Wind S 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (AUGUST 20-24)

Not a high confidence forecast at this time, but thinking that shower threat continues August 20 then diminishes for the August 21-22 weekend as the tropical moisture plume is pushed to the southeast by high pressure. May see an increase in shower chances again toward the end of the period.

DAYS 11-15 (AUGUST 25-29)

High pressure will try to control the weather with mostly dry conditions, but will have to continue to keep an eye on potential tropical activity or remnant tropical moisture to the south.

  1. Joshua, it is not a very good photo, but your tree at your daughters is like the one in our yard with pine ones only at the top. I have no idea why. There is usually a hummingbird or bluebird sitting on the topmost branch as you can see in second photo

  2. Thanks TK.

With no real breeze to stir things up my house still feels stuffy like an oven. It’s if a cold front never even passed. I certainly didn’t sleep any better than the night before. The only way I can truly feel the lower dewpoints is to actually step outside. Usually August is when we occasionally will get that “taste of fall” feeling. Maybe briefly first thing tomorrow morning perhaps?

All I see is a “taste of the Caribbean” ahead for the rest of the month. 🙁

    Y-U-C-K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Thanks TK and glad to hear your mom is doing better!

We are in Miami now on a layover on our way to the Beaches resort in Turks and Caicos. This is a rescheduled trip from our original booking a year ago. Fiasco getting down here as we were alerted last evening our flight out of Hartford this am was cancelled. Only other option to get a connection was to fly out of JFK at 6:30am so had to drive to BDL last night, park my car, rent a vehicle, drive back home, and leave for JFK at 2am. I didn’t even bother trying to go to sleep!

Needless to say I am watching Grace intently. Looks like the Turks will be on the northern fringe of the wind and rain Tues AM. Part of me was rooting for a more northerly track over open water that would have resulted in a stronger storm much closer to us, but I guess this is probably for the best 🙂 I’ll report back with an update on Tuesday!

  4. Haiti earthquake death toll is 700 and rising.

Tropical Storm Grace is approaching. The wind won’t be the major problem, but the rain will as so many people have been displaced. Sad situation. A country in chronic disarray and disrepair, due to natural calamities and internal political turmoil.

  5. Just returned from a visit with mom. She’s bored and hates the food at the rehab place. Otherwise, she’s doing great! 😉

      1. No roommate, which is probably a good thing. Despite being bored because she’s not in her place, she still definitely likes her own space there. 🙂

  6. After a review of the 12z guidance – no big changes.

Monday: Pick of the week. Mild temps, easterly breezes, sunny.
Tuesday: Not bad! Sun through an ice crystal cloud filter, warmer, tiny up-tick in humidity which nobody will really notice.
Wednesday: Clouds rule, humidity’s up, but not hot at all.
Thursday & Friday: Unsettled, humid days, chance of showers.
Next weekend peek: Fabulous late August weather!

      1. I’d love to take credit for it. 😉 Let’s just say it was a request. But we have a way to go so let’s hope!

  7. Haiti weather…

I don’t think that tropical system is going to do much to them at all. No wind. Probably just rain showers with amounts of 25 mm or less, which is basically under 1 inch of rain. That tropical system really isn’t even a tropical system, in terms of anything organized. It’s just a batch of tropical showers.

I had to laugh the other day, our buddy Pete (NBC) kind of gave a sly little knock to NHC (or as one of my colleagues calls it, the “National Hallucination Center”).. Basically Pete said this, ON AIR (paraphrased): “Potential Tropical Cyclone. If you want to call this a tropical depression, I’m with you, because that’s what it is. I’m on your side! But not to get on my soapbox.” 😉 Way to go Pete! I’m with you too. 🙂

  8. Top 10 day if you ask me . I guess I thought it was going to be a bit cooler . I spent most of the day in the pool & now on back deck w/ the grill heating up

    1. The high temp in Plymouth was 78.
All the high temps fell right in my above forecast ranges today, so there were no surprises in the temperature or dew point department.

Tomorrow may be a touch cooler especially near the shore as the wind will be a little more predominantly east.

  9. We were outside from 5:30 pm to 8 pm and I´d say about 7 to 7:15pm or so onward, you could feel the temps falling quickly. Felt great ! We got chased in by the mosquitoes.

It was a great beach day and the shallow ocean water was really warm.

    1. It sure was a great day to be out. Youngest said mosquitoes are horrible at Humarock. We have never had a problem there so I was surprised

      1. Perhaps the lighter winds are the culprit, allowing them to be out more than usual. About 7pm tonight, they really appeared.

          1. I can relate to that, getting eaten alive a few times at the DQ in Marshfield. My daughter and I now go to B´s ice cream in Marshfield, its so good and inside 🙂

  10. Hey look …frost on the table in South Sutton. I drew on the table so you can see. 😉 😉 😉

    North….this is for Ivy 8)

  11. My house is currently just as stuffy and very warm still as in past evenings. Built in 1923 btw.

AFAIC that was quite an “intense” heat air mass (max high low 78F) and the only way to truly cool my house down is a cold front accompanied by a good 15+ mph cool breeze for at least a few hours followed by a cool, crisp overnight. I only can feel the dry air if I physically go outside, which I did this early evening taking out the trash for tomorrow (ahhhhh!). Once going back into the house (UGH!). I can get the opposite effect though when the house is quite cool while heat and/or humidity build up outside. Hopefully by tomorrow evening may feel somewhat better inside assuming the sea breeze flows in most of the day. We will see.

TK – With your permission, may I be the first (and perhaps only) to complain about Tuesday’s humidity “in advance”? 🙂

TK – With temps in the 80s and dewpoints in the 70s combo, can the heat index “feel” like the 90s? I don’t really understand how that heat index concept works compared to wind chill in winter.

Yes, bedroom fan will still be cranking again tonight. 🙂

  12. A sign of things to come…..

Much of Montana will have highs in the 90s and 100s today. By Wednesday, most of those same locations will be in the 50s and 60s for highs, with snow in the higher elevations. GFS has Helena at 96 Monday afternoon, with 5″ of snow Tuesday night.

BTW, snow at this time of year is not unprecendented. While Andrew was blasting South Florida on 8/24/92, there was a blizzard in parts of Montana. (https://www.weather.gov/media/wrh/online_publications/TAs/ta9419.pdf)

    1. So I guess that it’s not just “only” in New England with wild temperature swings…Thanks SAK!
