Friday September 3 2021 Forecast (7:35AM)

DAYS 1-5 (SEPTEMBER 3-7)

As surface high pressure approaches from the west today an upper disturbance will be moving across the region. The combination is dry air but a sun/cloud mix and a chance of a couple pop up showers forming. High pressure moves overhead tonight with a clearing and cool night resulting, then the high slides offshore Saturday with a pleasantly warm-up during the day and a spectacular start to the Labor Day Weekend. The rest of the weekend will be impacted by a low pressure trough moving across the region from west to east with varying amounts of clouds, although at this point I think shower activity will be fairly limited with just scattered activity around later Sunday and part of Monday. I would not cancel any outdoor plans for that. Another trough may approach as early as the end of the day Tuesday with more clouds but I’m not sure of the timing of that yet.

TODAY: Partly cloudy. Slight chance of an isolated afternoon shower. Highs 68-75. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Fog patches forming interior lower elevations. Lows 51-58. Wind NW under 10 MPH.

SATURDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 71-78. Wind W up to 10 MPH.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 55-62. Wind variable under 10 MPH.

SUNDAY: Variably cloudy. A couple passing showers possible. Highs 72-79. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.

SUNDAY NIGHT: Variably cloudy. A passing shower possible. Lows 58-65. Wind SW 5-15 MPH shifting to W.

MONDAY – LABOR DAY: Variably cloudy. A few showers possible. Highs 70-77. Wind WSW 5-15 MPH.

MONDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 50-57. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

TUESDAY: Sun/cloud mix. Highs 70-77. Wind W 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (SEPTEMBER 8-12)

Current timing suggest shower threats exist about September 8 and 10, otherwise mostly dry weather with some up and down temperatures from a generally zonal flow weather pattern.

DAYS 11-15 (SEPTEMBER 13-17)

Same basic pattern – some up and down temperatures with limited shower chances. We will have to keep an eye out for disturbances and possible tropical activity both south and east of New England for potential impact, even if indirect.

  1. Thanks TK.

A teeny bit cooler than I expected out the door this morning but I still won’t call it a “feel of fall” just yet.

  2. If anyone has window A/C units …..

The long range on the GFS is, for now, hinting at some eastern US ridging with a stretch of fairly warm weather and moderate to perhaps high humidity.

With the Gulf of Mexico water temp running 85F to 90F and a good part of the Atlantic running in the 80s, I´d think we´re probably still looking at a few more humid days this month.

      1. Thank you for doing that I can keep my pool open longer now . Now that I’ve said that it will probably snow.

          1. Boston has 24 days so far of 90 degrees. Still time to reach the all time record of 30 in 1983 unfortunately. Even October can get quite hot, especially with today’s climate change.

            1. About 1/3 of Boston’s 90+ were probably upper 80s. But even if we ignore that, not happening.

1983’s record is going to be around for a very long time. I’ve been saying that since 1983 and will continue to for many years to come. 🙂

  3. New England No-No’s, #395…

In early September never do the following…

-Remove & put away outdoor lawn furniture.
    -Close down swimming pools.
    -Remove garden hoses & sprinklers.
    -Take down window screens.
    -Remove air conditioning units.

Chances are, you will wish you waited until after September 22. 😉

    1. To be fair. The pool popped in one area. The rest stay up year round except winterize irrigation system. The guys have the things on outdoor faucets that don’t freeze

      1. A friend of mine lost a 10 year old pool yesterday, just came apart near the filter. I think it was a combo of seal wear, sudden heavy rain adding lots of water to the pool, and perhaps some gusty wind being the final straw.

        1. This is one of those large blow up ones that are 3.5’ by maybe 10’. They are getting a larger one next year I’m told. SIL ran around it with an exacto knife. It was entertaining…. I think 😉

  4. Summer never goes quietly and we always get one last blast of heat and humidity to end summer or the first few days of the fall season.

  5. CPC likes near normal temps / below normal rainfall 6-10 day & above normal temps / near normal rainfall 8-14 day.

  6. What a great afternoon into the evening.

Been sitting here watching a field hockey jamboree that my daughter and Marshfield is playing in.

So comfortable for the athletes and spectators.
