      Many places that had strict covid protocols have relaxed them. Most who had curbside only now offer in store. A doctor I’m familiar with had the patient wait in the car until he was called inside….now everyone just goes in. The office still has strict covid steps in office. Just a couple of examples.

      I don’t understand how we, as what seems a whole, remove mitigation steps when we as bad or worse than our height. I figure I have to be missing some logical explanation

      1. The relaxation of mitigation protocols was pure LUNACY at the worst of possible times.

        My wife’s theory is that those in power KNOW that things are going to get so bad regardless, that they let the public “enjoy” the Summer before the shit hits the fan. Pure Folly for sure, but done none-the-less.

        My wife and I have been Screaming all Summer long at these idiotic relaxations. We were particularly upset with Baker. My God who the hell is he listening to??????

        I am fed up!!

        1. I suspect you are not surprised that we have been upset by this also. Is Baker up for re-election in November?

          In good part, I believe it was the relaxation of the mitigation steps that added to the higher numbers

  2. Philip, apologies. I wasn’t ignoring your post. I wasn’t sure what the 40,000,000 was for…or actually was more afraid of what it meant. So searched. I didn’t intend for the link to override your comment. I was was more shocked that it was our worst week so far

  4. Where is Baker these days anyway? He’s been very silent much of the summer with regard to the virus. My take is he has decided to leave any decisions to the public and private sectors and stay out completely.

  5. Joshua – I just read your recent article about rationing of health care resources. It is well-written and frightening.

    The Death Panels predicted by some anti-ACA loonies are now here for a completely different reason.

    1. Isn’t it odd that the healthcare rationing is in good part caused by the same folks who spread the ACA death panel lies. I’m sorry I can’t see the article. I’m off to look into a subscription to Forbes

  10. Another town with a positive on the first day. How does a child not show any symptoms and can go to school yet show enough for a test. Hint. I’m m being facetious

    I’m also seeing pictures on cafeterias with kids with no masks literally piled together. How does one contact trace that.

        1. I am afraid that deliberate is in the mix as well. Some parents would rather send their child to school than to miss work or have to arrange for a sitter.

          1. We know they’ve did last year. Multiple times.

            That’s the difference that I’m hearing from three friends (yes not an overwhelming number) between public and private. In private everyone knows if a parent does this and no one wants to be identified as the parent who sent a child with covid.

    1. I disagree. I am not so sure that delta is more transmissible.
      I read that MU was twice as transmissible as delta. I do not
      know how accurate my information was.

      I do believe that MU is of concern. I hope not as Delta is bad enough. We shall see.

          Federal health officials in the U.S. stressed last week that the “mu” variant is not an immediate threat to the United States.

          “We’re paying attention to it, we take everything like that seriously, but we don’t consider it an immediate threat right now,” White House chief medical advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci said during a press briefing Thursday.

            1. True. Mu has been seen in hospitalized patients in the U.S. So it is here. It’s just that it’s having difficulty spreading, because as of now it’s less transmissible than Delta. As we know from Delta, however, variants adapt. The Delta lineage has 3 subtypes. The one that took over – B.1.617.2 beat out the others like B.1.617.1. Let’s hope the Mu variant doesn’t have multiple subtypes of which one is very transmissible. That would be disastrous.

  12. Sometimes we grant the virus an intentional stance as if it’s human, that is, we suggest variants are adapting to become vaccine-evasive. That’s of course not really its purpose. The virus’s only intention is to survive. However it does that – successfully – is mostly happenstance, trial and error, if you will. Add a spike here, delete a spike there. And go `try’ and spread. As I’ve said before the problem with having so many new cases every day is that you increase the chance that the virus mutates to something that’s not only very transmissible but also vaccine-evasive.

    I wish the President and the CDC Director would emphasize this. We’ve got to bring transmission down, preferably to under 5,000 cases a day nationwide (I’d be happy with 10k at this point). Otherwise, we run the real risk of propagating the cycle of spawning new variants, with the attendant risk of wholesale vaccine evasion. We’re back to square one if a variant hits us that is so vaccine- and prior infection evasive that it not only doesn’t prevent well against infection but also doesn’t prevent well against severe disease.

  14. In the school that had a positive in elementary after one day, there are now two high school positives. That is the school where I saw a FB photo of a large numbers of kids without masks practically in each other’s laps for lunch. Not In this area.

    A woman who has a child who has battled valiantly for three years after being born at 27 weeks posted this on FB today. The little one has four siblings in school. How many more does each school case infect.

    YOU SAY IT IS ONLY ONE…. YOUR ONE IS MY EVERYTHING.

    God protect us from our ignorance because we sure as hell are not protecting ourselves.
