  1. Thanks TK!

There was a woman doctor (I didn’t pay attention to her name) interviewed on yesterday evening’s PBS Newshour and she highly recommended that women under 50 (which she identified as one herself) should NOT get a J&J booster due to causing extreme blood clots in that specific demographic. Instead, she recommended that these women get a booster from either Pfizer or Moderna instead. With all the talk about combining boosters, I have not heard about this “women under 50” from any other source since.

    Boys 12-18 (heart palpitations)?
    Women under 50 (blood clots)?

    Now what???

    1. The heart palpitations is not new as you know….but they are not limited to 12-18. The blood clots are not new either. But they are pushed aside. So you are right…..why indeed are we not hearing more about this

My kids asked their pediatricians and the canned comment was it’s only a few so get the vaccine. These are people who are supposed to know every kid is different and, as their doctor, know their differences.

    1. Yes, indeed. US is actually worse than the UK, in terms of death rate throughout the pandemic. Also does poorly on testing and early diagnosis (could help explain higher death rate).

On the UK, Professor Pagel is so good at explaining the current situation. See link below. No nonsense, fact-driven, and easy to understand. Much easier than Topol, who likes to show off his epidemiological acumen, which makes it harder for laypeople to understand some of the things he’s saying.

  2. Joshua, what are your thoughts about my post above regarding the J&J vaccine booster in women under 50?

Btw, the doctor received the initial JJ vaccine and got her booster from one of the other two. I don’t recall if she mentioned which one specifically.

    1. Not sure what to make of it. It’s an area I don’t wade into, as I know so little about it.

As Vicki said, there have been heart issues. My guess is that the advice is to mix and match, so if one has gotten a J&J vaccine initially, to get an mRNA vaccine as a booster. I think that’s what’s being advised to women under 50. I know that something similar is happening overseas with the Astra Zeneca vaccine – which shares certain characteristics with J&J.
