I remain dumfounded by the attitude of most concerning
Covid. Full blown halloween tonight when it should NOT be happening. I give up!
I agree. We will put buckets of candy out. The kids here opted for the haunted house we created last year no matter what so that will be fun. My other grands opted to go to some known houses.
Will you put candy out?
NO! Porch light will be off.
We won’t do it, until we feel it is safe.
Absolutely understood
Thanks TK!
In wake of current resurgence which began 3 weeks ago – all indicators are pointing in the wrong direction; cases (45% increase in 1 week), test positivity (15%), hospitalizations (35% increase in 1 week), and deaths (35% increase in 1 week) – Netherlands government is considering:
– Urging ALL employers to institute a vaccine mandate (exemptions do apply where appropriate). Government is working with employers’ associations to make this happen. Employers’ association chair has agreed to request that members abide by government’s guidance.
– Indoor mask mandate as well as distancing rules (1.5 meters) for duration of winter, or until caseload/hospitalizations decrease sufficiently
– Continued closure of night clubs through winter
– Earlier closing times of bars and pubs
– Reduced capacity for indoor venues (not clear whether this would be to 50% or 75%) through winter
Colorado is in a difficult spot, Minnesota, too, and Western NY. What do these three regions share in common? The ancestral Delta variant – B.1.617.2 – is being replaced by AY. sub-lineages. Notably, the most transmissible AY. sub-lineage – AY.4.2 – isn’t being reported much yet. That will likely change soon, as it appears that AY.4.2 is very gradually out-competing all other AY. sub-lineages as well as the ancestral Delta variant in the U.K. https://www.denverpost.com/2021/10/28/colorado-covid-crisis-standards-elective-surgeries/
Concord hospital, NH, is stopping elective surgery. Not sure if this ties in with VT and ME that you mentioned, Joshua. No idea if other NH hospitals are doing the same.
Sorry. You didn’t mention VT. I read it in the globe. ME also. Could this be the AY 4.2?
Throughout the pandemic, Vermont has been a beacon for the country, with its highest-in-the-nation COVID-19 vaccination rate, and often one of the lowest infection rates, too. On several days last summer, the state reported close to zero new COVID cases.
But since August, Vermont has been grappling with an alarming spike, often topping 200 new cases per day. The unexpected turn has triggered a sharp debate — at least by Vermont’s polite standards — over how forcefully to respond. The surge has leveled off in recent days but the case count remains high, tied with Maine for the most per capita in New England
Good point. Probably fueled in part by AY. sub-lineages, but I do not think that AY.4.2 is a dominant force yet. In fact, I think it’s a relative newcomer and is only beginning to show up in sequencing data in the U.S. Given what’s happening in the U.K. where it’s now around 11% of cases and was 8% a couple of weeks ago, I suspect AY.4.2 will naturally begin to outcompete other AY. sub-lineages.
WH Press Secretary Jen Psaki has tested positive for COVID-19.
Oh dear.
I did some reading and will post more tomorrow. It is believed she was exposed by one of her kids. Lots of discussion about proper house ventilation.
C-19 for 11-1 is ready.
