Sunday October 31 2021 Forecast (8:18AM)

DAYS 1-5 (OCTOBER 31 – NOVEMBER 4)

Halloween Weather: Low pressure departs, any wet weather ends early, and we end up with a mild but breezy day featuring a cloud/sun mix, and a pleasant trick-or-treat evening with temperatures coming off highs in the 60s to fall into the 50s, which is definitely not too bad for the end of October. The first several days of November will feature a cooling trend. It’ll still be fairly mild Monday but we trend downward from there through midweek. Still looking at a rain shower threat later Tuesday from a cold front, and the jury is out on whether or not we get that brief precipitation threat on Thursday. The guidance has trended away from it for now, but I’ve seen it do this only to have it return. So for now I’ll leave that part of the forecast as is. One thing we do know is that it we’ll have our coolest air mass so far this autumn in place by then.

TODAY: Lots of clouds and a couple lingering rain showers around early, then a sun/cloud mix with brief passing rain showers possible late-day. Highs 60-67. Wind SW 5-15 MPH, gusting around 20 MPH.

TONIGHT: Partly cloudy. Evening temps (trick-or-treat time) falling into 50s. Lows 43-50. Wind W 5-15 MPH.

MONDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 54-61. Wind W 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.

MONDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 38-45. Wind WNW 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.

TUESDAY: Partly sunny. Highs 52-59. Wind W 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Chance of rain showers. Lows 41-48. Wind W 5-15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Partly cloudy. Highs 48-55. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 28-35. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

THURSDAY: Clouding up. A chance of rain (possible inland or higher elevation mix briefly). Highs 46-53. Wind N up to 10 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (NOVEMBER 5-9)

There are now significant differences in medium range guidance. They range from developing a coastal storm and bringing it up into this region on the November 6-7 weekend to keeping a storm system far south of the region. At this time I’m leaning toward the drier scenario for most of if not all of this period with temperatures averaging below normal. But the dry part of this forecast is not high confidence.

DAYS 11-15 (NOVEMBER 10-14)

We transition toward a milder pattern with a couple bouts of unsettled weather possible during this time frame.

  1. Good morning and thank you TK.

1 78 inches total rain here during this storm. Did it ever pour last evening!!

    1. Thanks TK.

I’ll say it poured! For a time water backed up on part of my street along a curve. Other than a bit of water that seeped in, my basement is generally dry as of this morning.

  2. Subtropical storm “Wanda” which now completes the alphabet for the hurricane season. Too bad it was named well after it hit us. Too little, too late?

  3. I hope next Saturday won’t be a repeat of “Wanda” or whatever that was that knocked out power to the South Shore.

  4. Sun is out. 2.20 rain. On top of 2.76 earlier in week I don’t think anyone has checked for sink holes or water in the basement.

  5. Thank you, TK.

Last week at this time, October was running well below normal (in fact, very dry) in terms of precipitation. What a difference 6 days make, as the month closes out above normal to continue the growing streak of months with above normal precipitation.

  6. Good morning, everyone!
    Thanks, TK!

Sad news this Sunday morning. WBZ is reporting that Jerry Remy passed this morning.

  7. Hi everyone. Any thoughts on northern light viewing tonight? There is an article on Boston.com but curious if any one here can give more specifics. Happy Halloween,

  8. Really devastated by Jerry Remy’s death. The master of the drag bunt, he played the game hard and well. Then, he became a terrific TV color analyst. His knowledge of the game combined with humor and an on-air chemistry with everyone from Orsillo to Eckersley made him an icon. He will be missed.

  9. Sorry I jumped into the tributes to Jerry Remy earlier with my post. Thanks Joshua, for posting the video tribute. I loved the way he could be right on the game but also laugh the booth silly. The 5 min spent analyzing the pizza throw was too much. My mom is 95 and still watches some of most games. We will miss him.

  10. We are under attack by the lady bugs again. I can’t begin to count how many are on the outside of the house. My daughter just vacuumed up at least two dozen in the house. They somehow get in through my storm door. And I hate having the main door closed.

  11. Five year old rilyn was just checking the radar with me. Her comment: No red. That’s good.

    A budding meteorologist I’d say
