      1. I thought I heard this morning that Mayor Wu plans on having free tests available for all Boston residents. I may be totally wrong, but I got the impression those tests are going to be mailed out to every household.

    1. I saw that yesterday and was really taken back. I think I said something like using our insurance companies….what could possibly go wrong there. 🙄

  1. Some minor improvement in terms of case growth in the Netherlands. It is now decreasing slightly. Also, hospitalizations are decreasing ever so slightly. But, the numbers in the ICU are increasing still. Right now, a whopping 59% of all ICU beds in the Netherlands are filled with Covid-19 patients.

  2. I just received a reminder from my healthcare provider (BWH) that I am due for “vaccine #4” on or after March 1, 2022.

That’s definitely an indication that we are expected to keep on “boosters” until further notice for at least into next year. Shall we go for 2023, 2024, etc. etc.? LIFE?!?!?

    1. Yikes. I hadn’t even heard anyone mention #4. It is odd that you and I get different messages. Or do you mean Brigham when you say BWH?

  3. Does anyone know if they sequence to determine the variant kids in school are having? The vast majority are the younger grades.

  4. I have indeed seen Wu’s statements on free at-home testing.
Mayor Wu has her heart and mind in the right place. I’ve seen her operate on the City Council, prior to her being a mayoral candidate. I liked what I saw then, and so far like what I see now.

Philip, you may have missed my article that references the need for boosters. It includes some numbers on Netherlands’ hospitalizations of fully vaccinated persons, as well as breakthrough cases. They are VERY common, just like here. https://www.forbes.com/sites/joshuacohen/2021/12/01/waning-vaccine-immunity-why-boosters-are-so-crucial-in-vulnerable-sub-populations/?sh=18904d4a23b0

    1. I did miss your article Joshua. Thanks, very enlightening. Unfortunately, an anti-vaxxer can easily argue as to “why bother if the fully vaccinated can get Covid-19 too?”

Of course the answer is less hospitalization stays and less likely to be in an ICU, not to mention hardly any chance of death. Still…

  5. There is now controversy in Westborough public schools regarding masks. It seems the middle and high school vaccination rates are at 95%, so some parents want their kids to stop wearing masks altogether and others want the mask order to remain in place.

  6. The only way to end this Covid-19 pandemic once and for all is for one of these pharmaceuticals to develop a vaccine that can provide LIFETIME protection.

  7. Maine is experiencing a surge that is landing more people in the hospital than at any time during the pandemic. https://twitter.com/SenAngusKing/status/1468298293797179402

My ex-wife is returning to the Netherlands tonight. She spent at least 45 minutes filling out forms, gathering QR codes, etc … for her transit period in Iceland (Keflavik airport) and the onward journey to the Netherlands. I’m glad she was able to visit my son. It was good for me to see her as well. She and I have always been on friendly terms. My son plans to visit her in Amsterdam the summer. Let’s hope Covid-19 is truly fading by then.

    1. Also, 51 deaths reported today in Massachusetts. While we often criticize DeSantis and Abbott for their response to Covid-19, Baker’s hasn’t been much better. We should not be losing so many people.

    2. OMG. But why. I don’t suppose it separates by location in Ma?

But when you have just under 10,000 school kids in less than eight days who are positive, how can we expect less.

  8. We are in a horrific surge in the U.S. See link below. We’re now averaging 120,000 cases a day with limited testing, soaring hospitalizations, 1,800 deaths/day. I’m absolutely stunned by the data. Yet, no mitigation measures at all. It’a almost as if no-one cares, which for a nation that pretends to pride itself on sanctity of life is truly bizarre. I don’t believe any of that nonsense anymore. No mea culpa from Gottlieb and so many others who said the pandemic would essentially be over by Thanksgiving. As recently as two weeks ago he said January would be the end of the pandemic. He can’t help himself. https://twitter.com/EricTopol/status/1468422268942307332
