  1. From the Globe.. sound familiar?????

“Arguing the state has been too hands-off in quelling the latest COVID-19 surge, Democratic state lawmakers on Tuesday pressed Governor Charlie Baker to take a more aggressive posture on testing in schools, masking rules, and public messaging.

The leaders of a legislative committee peppered Baker and his health secretary, Marylou Sudders, with questions over a combined 75 minutes, at times engaging in testy exchanges about the governor’s turbulent distribution of masks to educators and his administration’s resistance to a universal mask mandate.

“One of the things that would be enormously useful is for you to be more present,” Senator Cindy F. Friedman told Baker at one point, prompting his head to shoot up from a page of notes and stare into the camera.

Friedman, an Arlington Democrat, cited the daily briefings Baker had in 2020, saying they were helpful in explaining the state’s efforts “so that we know that there’s a plan, we know that these things are being worked on.”

    1. I don’t know where his head is at, but it sure isn’t in the game. His fall back is that Massachusetts has one of the best test and stay programs in the country. That ship also sailed since we know the rapid tests do not do a good job detecting covid if a person is asymptomatic. And now we are training dogs to sniff covid. That may have some good uses, But people have to have covid before it is detected.

Every step we take seems to parallel closing the barn door after the horses have escaped

  2. The massive Omicron wave is cresting and is declining in some places. Massachusetts waste water suggests it will also decrease here soon. BUT, the sheer level of cases and hospitalizations will ensure that problems will be with us for quite some time.

Why the Biden Administration waited until now – in fact, the policy doesn’t go into effect until the 15th – with free testing is beyond me. Perhaps to save money, knowing that the wave would crest and begin to decline this week. The cynic in me says yes. As I noted in a previous email, I’ve lost ALL faith in government. The political game that’s played in DC and also in many of the states is appalling. The founding fathers would be puzzled by all of this. Sure, they would not have been fond of heavy government intervention in places like the economy. But, I’m certain they would have viewed a major public health crisis as akin to a national security/defense crisis.

I won’t be posting further on Covid-19 today, as I have several major work deadlines to attend to.

      1. That is deadlines. Which I have now autocorrected three times just on this comment. Although, fault is mine if I don’t proof before posting

    1. That brings tears to me. We have to stop focusing only on vaccines, which is what Baker and Biden are doing, and focus on mitigation strategies.

    1. I read that yesterday and threw up all over the place.

How did this turd become an MD with this kind of thinking??????

  3. Hospitalizations in MA haven’t yet peaked. And, cases will decline but it’ll be a step-wise long tail. Even in South Africa there has been a long tail.

The U.S. nationwide numbers are just brutal.

Let’s hope that Omicron is our last wave. We can’t be sure of this for a while.

  4. Hospital admissions continue their nearly vertical rise nationwide.

Walensky must go. Her latest series of comments – bordering on eugenics – suggest ignorance on so many levels. Does she have no shame? Does the Biden Administration have any shame? Our record is shameful. The 7-day average number of deaths is approaching 2,000. It will go over that. Today we’ll get close to 3,000 deaths when all is said and done. Our hospitals are in a state of chaos. Certainly some of this was preventable. Other countries have done and are doing a much better job. Why didn’t we? Why can’t we now?

    1. I honestly didn’t think we’d be here when I voted. I have no idea where the disconnect is/was. Baker was superior the first time he ran and I didn’t vote for him. The second time he seemed to have settled and that continued at the start of the virus. But he is as pompous now as I originally saw.

I am fairly sure Jill Biden is guiding her husband o n schools. But my God. They are intelligent and compassionate people.

      How did we get here?

  5. For those who can speak German – or read Dutch subtitles – you’ll find a link to a brief video on how the police in Austria check and enforce mask wearing (must be at least a KN95, by the way) and vaccination status.

I do understand that this kind of police presence to check on – and enforce with penalties – mask usage and vaccination status would not fly in the U.S.
