Nationwide there was a drop in hospitalizations. It was Sunday and a holiday weekend, but still we haven’t seen a drop in over a month. Let’s hope that continues. Given the steady rise in cases in several Midwestern states and out west, I think we’ll still see some increases in hospitalizations this week with perhaps a more sustained decrease starting by the end of next week.
Is that a sign that we could seriously turn the corner around the spring perhaps, Joshua?
Thanks, Joshua. Any positive news we can get is very welcome. I saw the waste water was showing a drop also, but don’t know if that continued .
We’ll know by tomorrow.
We’ve peaked in Massachusetts and are on the decline. But, the case and hospitalization levels are still very high.
Unfortunately, the nationwide death toll – 7-day average – is approaching 2,000. We’ve already had several days during which it went over 2,800.
Wastewater report is out for Boston. It’s crappy news. Boston wastewater RNA up slightly last two days. Will have to see what cases do.
As suspected, I do NOT see a precipitous decline in cases here or nationwide. It’ll be in stop-and-go, fits and starts. Similar with hospitalizations. I do think the overall trend will be downward, which is good, beginning at the end of this month. But, I am not forecasting an end to the wave for a while. I’d define an end to the wave as having <75,000 new cases a day nationwide, and an end to the pandemic as <10,000 new cases a day nationwide (corresponding <100 deaths a day).
I was under the impression that wastewater levels were not just lowering but plummeting, if anything.
Thank you. Sad news indeed
Retail pharmacists are under so much stress due to understaffing, COVID exposure and just having to deal with so many customers requests for vaccines and tests that many are considering retirement.
Another very sad casualty ranging from veterinarians to medical personnel and many in between. Yet folks continue to fight masking. I try really hard to see two sides, but I fail to see any justification for those refusing to mask just because they do not feel like it
Philip, the wastewater showed plummeting Covid for a 10 day stretch. Even so, the level at which the plummeting and decline stopped 2 days ago was higher than previous peaks! And now, for a 2 day stretch it appears that there’s a bit more Covid in the sewage than 2 days ago. I do think we’ve peaked and so the wastewater will trend downward in terms of detecting Covid in the system. Still, we have a ways to go before we reach a comfortable, low level of infection. Note, it doesn’t have to go to zero. I’m okay with there being some Covid around, like there was last summer, but not the high levels we’ve seen for the past few months.
Based on that LONG Covid, I am NOT comfortable having it around at all. Boy, would I love to see it wiped out completely, but I guess that’s highly unlikely, huh?
Omicron is less efficient at attacking the lungs (more efficient at attacking the bronchi), but that does NOT mean Omicron can’t attack the lungs. It does so frequently in the unvaccinated. https://twitter.com/EMSwami/status/1482752513547898898
