Before the State of the Union the follow Congressmen tested positive for Covid-19 and did not attend:
Democratic Representatives Jamie Raskin, Suzan DelBene, Pete Aguilar, Ted Deutch, and Senator Alex Padilla
Covid is clearly still around, which is a bit of a problem for my trip to England. While I don’t need a negative test to get into England, I do need proof of one to return to the U.S. I understand this requirement, but it means there’s a risk that I won’t be able to get back. So, I’ll have to be extra careful. No indoor pubs, for example.
Nationwide, Covid deaths continue to decline, but the pace isn’t that fast. We’re still recording >1,800 deaths a day (7-day average).
all democrats – interesting…I’m thinking BA.1 but…?
And I will keep very positive thoughts for you while you travel. When do you leave?
Boston will lift its indoor mask mandate for businesses on Saturday. I just may start going to the movies again soon. We will see. 🙂
Thanks, Philip.
Sadly, this will just prolong my going in anywhere. At least they are keeping a mask mandate in school for now.
I just can’t enjoy myself at a movie or museum, aquarium etc. having to wear a mask. If most people thought like me, I guess the entire entertainment industry would have been devastated by now. Given pandemic restrictions though, its a wonder venues have been able to survive once they reopened after the lockdowns.
The entertainment industry has devised some innovative alternatives. My kids and others purchase movies before they would normally be available. There are others but I always wait for a show to come out on tv. I know there are more that my kids have mentioned.
Vicki, I don’t leave until March 15th, so a week after JMA (he’s apparently headed to the UK next week). I’ll be in the UK for 6 days, staying at an AirBnB on the Highgate/Muswell Hill line, close to where my daughter lives. I’m looking forward to the trip.
Cases and hospitalizations are ticking up again in England, likely due to BA.2 which just became dominant this week. I will definitely be masking indoors. I very much question the data on reinfections after BA.1. The two sub-variants are too different biologically, and there’s too much of a surge going on in Denmark and a few other countries where BA.2 is now dominant, and in increase in England. I think you do get limited immunity; for say 6 to 8 weeks. But after that you’re just as susceptible to transmission, though NOT to severe disease. To make a long story short, I am NOT worried about getting severely ill from Covid. But, I can’t afford to pick up the virus and not be able to return to the U.S. I also have a lot planned the weekend of the 26th.
You had BA.1? Or did I make that up?
C-19 for 3-3 is ready.

Your no-hype southeastern New England weather blog!
Thanks TK.
I don’t publish much on Covid-19 these days. I have no time to do so, as my job as a health economist is far removed from most Covid-19-related topics. However, over the weekend I did write a piece on how Covid-19 has changed the U.S. government’s policy on providing free access to tests, treatments, and vaccines during a public health emergency. There is considerable bipartisan support for this, and so it’s a permanent shift, I believe. https://www.forbes.com/sites/joshuacohen/2022/03/02/covid-19-pandemic-produces-shift-in-us-policy-on-providing-free-access-to-tests-vaccines-and-treatments-during-public-health-emergencies/
