So, while we worry about Covid-19 in young people we shouldn’t keep our eyes off the persistent and more impactful concerns – firearms and motor vehicles.
Thanks Joshua. Interesting that motor vehicle crashes and firearms deaths increased when the pandemic hit. Probably no coincidence.
The new breathalyzer for Covid-19 is not a take home test. It can only be conducted by a trained professional.
Joshua, would you say this test will be part of routine physical examinations shortly?
My sister, aged 56, with no co-morbitities, caught COVID from her 17 year old daughter who caught it at school. Her husband, 57, with a heart condition, is still testing negative.
My sister received her second booster last Sunday, five days before onset of symptoms which started on Thursday. She tried to get treatment in the form of Paxlovid, but was told it’s only for people over 65.
She says the symptoms are like a really bad cold times ten, and she has a deep chesty cough. She feels awful, tired but restless. She’s in a room by herself with the windows wide open.
It seems that access to Paxlovid is described in “guidance” by the FDA, and each state makes its own rules. Massachusetts only restricts access to the highest risk patients when supplies are constrained, which they have not been since mid-February.
So now we’re wondering what to do next. Should she continue trying to get Paxlovid?
First and most important, I will keep your sister and family in my prayers and thoughts. Second, is her pcp trying to help her or just said he/she cannot provide? Is she affiliated with a hospital group such as MGH/Brigham? I need to check one more think. Back in a few
I’m assuming you have checked both of the above. I thought maybe quest diagnostics or another lab might be offering it. But I see it is still being tested and limited. Did your sisters doctor recommended another of the treatments?
Based on my own on-line research Paxlovid works well agains Omicron and remaining treatments not as well or not at all.
You are correct.
I’m sorry to hear your sister got Covid.
C-19 for 4-17 is ready.
