DAYS 1-5 (APRIL 19-23)
A potent low pressure area cutting right across New England, center just west of the WHW forecast area, will move northward and away from the area today and tonight. Our rainy/windy start to the day will evolve into a drier one with breaking clouds and shifting wind as the low center moves on. Behind that storm and ahead of approaching high pressure will come a gusty breeze but dry weather tonight and Wednesday before the high center moves overhead Wednesday night with wind dropping off. High pressure shifts offshore Thursday and a southwesterly air flow arrives ahead of a cold front, which passes by with little fanfare Thursday evening, then offshore Friday when we see a wind shift but still mild as any cooler aspect of the air mass behind the front is countered by west wind down-sloping off the mountains to the west. High pressure builds in for Saturday with fair weather and lighter wind, but coastal sea breezes likely.
TODAY: Overcast with areas of fog morning as rain tapers off and ends. Breaking clouds, partial sun, and chance of a passing shower afternoon. Highs 50-57. Wind shifting from SE to SW 10-20 MPH, gusts 25-35 MPH.
TONIGHT: Variably cloudy evening. Clearing overnight. Lows 36-43. Wind W 10-20 MPH, higher gusts.
WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 55-62. Wind W 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 35-42. Wind variable under 10 MPH.
THURSDAY: Partly sunny. Highs 60-67, cooler South Coast. Wind SW 10-20 MPH.
THURSDAY NIGHT: Variably cloudy. Chance of rain showers. Lows 48-55. Wind SW 10-20 MPH shifting to W.
FRIDAY: Partly cloudy. Highs 63-70. Wind W 10-20 MPH.
FRIDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 45-52.Wind NW up to 10 MPH.
SATURDAY: Sunny to partly cloudy. Highs 58-65, coolest coast. Wind variable up to 10 MPH with coastal sea breezes.
DAYS 6-10 (APRIL 24-28)
Warm front in area brings rain threat before the weekend ends April 24. Quick warm-up early next week followed by cold front, shower threat, and a cool-down midweek.
DAYS 11-15 (APRIL 29 – MAY 4)
Blocking pattern potential. Near to below normal temperatures, near to above normal precipitation.
Thanks TK. .88 of rain here in just 3 hours!
Wow. We had 0.63 and I thought that was a lot
Saw what happened with your heat. Glad you are all ok and safe.
Good morning and thank you TK
As far as I can tell, the rain is done here
Did Worcester receive any measurable snow? my gut says no, but I do not know.
They did not. It’s time to declare Boston the winner already! 🙂
B = 54.0”
W = 53.6”
After all, it can’t possibly snow in May, right? 😉

I’m not sure if it snowed here overnight. When I went out to get the paper this morning there was no snow on the ground.
I believe they got a coating of snow just northwest of me.
Thanks TK.
Thank you, TK. Good morning to all.
Thanks TK.
1.3 inches in Natick. Thanks, TK.
Thank you, TK.
Wish I was at Saranac Lake (NY) right now. Oh well.
Thank you, TK.
Wind whipping now. House is a bit chillier without the sun.
Wishes for a very happy birthday, Mark!
Thank you Vicki!
Happy Birthday Mark!
Interesting observational study, which shows that severity of multiple sclerosis was linked with geographic latitude; the further north the more severe the disease. https://www.medpagetoday.com/neurology/multiplesclerosis/98265?
Scientists can’t explain it yet. Correlation is of course not the same thing as causation. But, sun and perhaps even warmth may play a role.
Crazy interesting and weird.
Oh well, one never knows.
Thanks TK.
Very heavy rain and wind overnight with 1.47″ in the rain gauge this AM. We are up to 4.57″ now on the month of April.
Spoke to my mother this AM in Amsterdam NY and she said he has about 3″ of snow and a couple branches down but much more fell just to her north up towards Sacandaga Lake. Many without power in that area.

Thanks, Mark. That is a lot of rain in your area.
I saw Worcester’s and wondered if my gauge might be off. The wunder stations near me are in the same ballpark.
Well, I see Worcester did beat Boston. Hehehe. 😉
Awesome slow mo shot from Binghamton NY this AM….

Love it! thanks

That was a pretty intense band that set up over east/central NY overnight into this AM. Impressive snow totals for late April!

Beautiful. Somehow I knew you would post great shots from New York state. Always appreciated. Also, happy birthday, Mark!
Imagine if the storm had tracked south of SNE. Wow!!!
Vicki, I just read your wonderful post about the Wayside Inn. It was a family favorite. My mother took us there frequently in the 1970s. I hope there’s a Wayside Inn up in heaven. If there is, my mother is definitely there.
Awwww. I have happy tears. I also have fond memories with my brother, mom and dad and then With Mac and my kids and Macs family who always chose to have dinner at least once when visiting
How special that one place holds a special place in the hearts of many
Happy Birthday Mark!
Happy Birthday Mark!
Philip,
So Worcester DID receive measurable snow last night?
Numbers please. thanks
That was rainfall overnight JPD.
W = 1.03
B = 0.56
Oh, that was not clear. 🙂 🙂 🙂
Funny. So NO snow then.
Was last night the last chance? Hope so. We shall see.
When was the last time Worcester had accumulating snow. And when was the last time Boston had accumulating snow? I think it has been around a month here. I could be wrong.
For wayside inn…staying the night is a treat in itself. We did not stay in Room 9…the room with most reports of haunting….but I made sure we slept with a small light on.
The secret drawer society is far better entertainment than TV. We left a message also

I have been there twice. Once was in the 60s and I do not remember once.
The other was several years ago where my wife and I had dinner there for our anniversary. It was wonderful and the food was excellent as was the ambience.
❤️
I forgot to mention my son was fishing on Sunday and caught a few rainbow trout. I asked where and of course cannot remember now. Suspect it was in RI. I can ask again if you are interested
Sure. Thanks I decided not to go.
Okie dokie
This is great. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you all for the birthday wishes!
Another beautiful shot from Binghamton courtesy of the NWS there. Up over 14″ accumulation there now.

Happy Birthday Mark !
Brilliant sun, 60s with 30s dps on the S. Carolina coast today. Very warm in the sun, a bit cool in the shade.
Thanks Tom and enjoy!
Awesome. I have family driving To Charleston for next week. Must be the place to go.
Enjoy. It’s one of my very favorite places.
Some of the medium range models are playing with the idea of inland higher elevation snow again later this month.
We’re not going to be in an overly chilly pattern. If something like that happened it would be “opportunity snow”. Those types of events take place when conditions are just right, even for a short period of time.
Not sure of this was mentioned on here today. It was nine years ago today that the Watertown bombing took place.
Has something changed with WBZ weather? I can no longer watch the weather forecast online when I use an ad blocker. If I disable the ad blocker, I have to watch an advertisement video first.
It’s been a while since I tried watching WBZ weather online because I’m finding that I really enjoy watching Mike W. and Harvey L. on WCVB 5. So, I’m not sure when the WBZ situation changed.
Not sure if this is related, but yesterday they launched NEXT WEATHER and their entire presentation has taken on a new, over-packed, over-hyped approach, and it’s absolutely TERRIBLE. I feel bad for the weather team because I have a strong feeling this was a management decision and not the weather team’s idea.
They lost me as a viewer as of yesterday (but I’ll try to catch tweets and online updates as I like the team there).
Yes, I did notice the addition of Next Weather. These changes are really a pity.
This is what I see online. Is there something different depending on the device used? I’m using an iPad
https://boston.cbslocal.com/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=WBZ_LHA_PPC
I only ever follow tweets. And it is a shame I’d management has made yet another foolish change
Maybe I was overreading it but they did not seem like they were fully into it.
I really like that weather team a lot. But I will keep following them that way.
Once I figure out what they did, I’ll ask Eric. I posted what I saw above but I’m not seeing anything different. I suspect I didn’t access it correctly
New weather post…
