School numbers doubled from March until April. In last 4 days (4/25-4/28), there were 1,402 student cases per in-school day. I used 4.5 since a few schools had a half day on Good Friday

As a nation we’re … well, cooked. I’m sorry to say this. I love America. But, I despair at our myopia, our navel-staring, our lack of prioritization, and our biased media (on both sides of the fence).
We can do better, but refuse to. Politics always gets in the way.
As a nation we spend way too much time debating Elon Musk’s mentally unstable moves (eg, Twitter purchase or non-purchase, utterly bizarre talk of putting cocaine back into Cola once he buys Coca Cola, which he won’t), Governor DeSantis’s weird fear of the LGBTQ community, Biden’s stutter, critical race theory, Marjorie Taylor Greene’s latest debacle, Madison Cawthorn’s strange escapades. This is what we obsess about: National Enquirer type stuff.
We should be focused on the things that really matter, including Covid-19 and other public health crises, our crumbling infrastructure, the war in Ukraine, etc …
With a very deep sigh….I actually sighed as I read….we are in very serious trouble.
My best advice is to read heather cox Richard sons post today. It says it all. I’ll post a link. One second

A famous virologist in the Netherlands tweeted about the BA.4 and BA.5 variants, now causing problems in South Africa. She expects us to have an autumn wave due to these variants’ immunity escape properties. https://twitter.com/MarionKoopmans/status/1520160928746115072
How much longer are we going to have to deal with these new variants?
BA.6, 7, 8, 9, 10, etc………
The virus is stealth. It’a also taking advantage of our mobility in 2022, compared to, say, 1920. So, what happens in South Africa doesn’t stay there. It arrives on the next jet.
The good news is that we have built up a considerable wall of immunity. Not herd immunity. But, there are so few virus-naive people around – whether through vaccination or naturally acquired immunity – that the successive waves of this particular variant (Omicron) weaken over time, even if there’s a degree of evasiveness on the part of the virus. It still impacts vaccinated and unvaccinated vulnerable groups: Elderly, immune-compromised, and others with severe underlying health conditions. I do fear that they will continue to contend with the possibility of severe disease.
And long Covid? How is that looking? So far we have stuck our heads in the sand.
This is true of pretty much all viruses.
