    1. Remember last month when they said the opposite. Admittedly, I did, too. I bought into the narrative.

I’m not overly concerned, but I’m uneasy when I see the nationwide numbers. Steady growth in most states right now. It appears that a sub-sub-variant – BA.2.12.2 – is driving growth. It will soon be followed by BA.4 and BA.5. The BA.2.12.2 is a uniquely American phenomenon, at least in terms of its becoming dominant so quickly. We don’t know much about this sub-sub-variant. Experts are more concerned about the BA.4 and BA.5.

  1. Can’t sugar coat today’s data. Just not good. Not something I expected at this point. I thought we were beginning to plateau. Clearly not. Big increase in confirmed cases – 4,376 – and significant increase in hospitalizations (including ICU usage). The rising test positivity suggests there’s room to grow. https://twitter.com/News413_/status/1522323156572295170

Discouraging. Believe it or not, we were at a better place last May in Massachusetts. The numbers tumbled and by June were very low. This is why i was optimistic a month or so ago. This part of history I thought would repeat itself.

Have you all noticed that many people from China/Japan/Korea – whether from Asia, or Asian Americans – are still taking the pandemic seriously? Not all, obviously. But many are. The mask usage among Asian Americans or Asians who are not Americans is still very high, even outdoors, I’ve noticed. Of course, some of this is cultural. Masks have always been more common in those countries.

    1. I’ve mentioned here a few times throughout the pandemic that folks from Asian countries have always been the folks I’ve seen wearing masks above all others , etc. Actually, for a good part folks of what we consider color have also.

        1. No need to ever mention. It has just been impressive to me seeing that folks can actually do what is best for all.
