More on the paxlovid rebound. It sure seemed as if the course being too short and having a rebound made sense. But these are all excellent physicians so I’d think that would have been ruled out immediately? That said, I’ve learned not to assume
Of all things, monkey pox is spreading across Europe. And, there is community transmission. I don’t think it’s here yet. Do we have a Malthusian problem now?
In 1798, Sir Thomas Malthus argued that human population always grows more rapidly than the human food supply until war, disease or famine reduces the number of people.
Malthus did not anticipate the development of powerful new vaccines for diseases like small-pox and equally powerful advances in public health infrastructure like modern sewage systems. So, people invariably say Malthus was wrong. But, could there be a point in history when some of his predictions turn out to be prophetic?
Maybe Malthus. Maybe a take on 40 days and 40 nights
We’ve seemed to all come together when faced with a disaster. Why is this time so different.
Another side effect of covid is racism and bullying in schools which we have all seen mentioned in the news. But when it gets to the youngest grades in ways these young folks should not understand let alone voice, my heart breaks for what is happening.
Monkeypox case detected in Massachusetts; 13 suspected cases in Montreal. This is definitely spreading. It is NOT easily transmissible.
Covid cases in Massachusetts keep climbing, along with hospitalizations (825 – was 803 yesterday), test positivity (9.13%), and deaths (10).
Top 4 states, new Covid-19 cases per 1 million/population:
1 District of Columbia 1,659
2 Rhode Island 923
3 Minnesota 812
4 Massachusetts 606
There’s a cluster in Montreal. This is also where the Boston man traveled to. So far, 13 cases in Montreal, but it’s probably more. I’m reading that it’s transmissible by multiple routes, including aerosol transmission. But, it’s much harder to transmit than, say, coronavirus. Smallpox vaccine protects well. But, most of the population has never been vaccinated for smallpox.
Thank you SCkarke and Joshua. I had read Boston man traveled to Toronto. Then on the MGH press conference, the doctors said he hadn’t traveled. Very curious.
