The article is very interesting. I wonder what the results were of the research being done at the time (2003) to develop a safer vaccine.
It is amazing to remember how we were all just lined up in school, maybe in kindergarten, and given this vaccine.
Do you still have a mark from your vaccine, SClarke?
No, I don’t. I did have it for a long time.
I remember it when younger but also do not have it now
The only reasonable explanation is that aliens swapped our bodies with fake ones but missed that one detail.
Sighhhhhh. Well hmmmmm I do wish they’d left me the one of my youth OR one even remotely close …..
Brookline has reinstated their mask mandate, but will reevaluate on a week-by-week basis.
Baker won’t reinstate masks because of the high rate of vaccination? We rank 16th in boosters with 51.6% boosted. We know even vaccinated can be infected and spread the virus.
Originally, he used case rate as a barometer. What am I missing that would make that the same logical choice now??
You’re not missing anything. Baker is about as nonchalant as one can be, at this point.
I went to a Red Sox game last night. To get there I walked from my apartment to Fenway. On my walk, I was struck by a larger number of people wearing masks, even outdoors, than a month ago. At the game, I saw more masks than I would have expected. Percentage-wise it was probably only 5%. But, it was noticeable, especially among older folks. And this was outdoors. And then today on my run I saw more masks than usual – again, all outdoors. Percentage-wise, perhaps 5-10% of folks. That percentage was close to zero last month.
Baker and Biden. Who got to them? Or maybe better said….what got to them?
That is good news. Out here I am seeing some more. But then masks have been spotty all along.
I have been virtually attending the church we belonged to when in Framingham. It is back in person but requires masks. The churches out here have not required masks in months. Some never required them.
I am seeing fewer rider masks on the MBTA. Still a majority (including myself) but not nearly a majority like it was when the mandate was lifted. Back then, I would say 95/5 easily and now…70/30. Just my “guesstimate”. Also, more operators going maskless but the majority still masks.
Why anyone would want to be on a packed subway train or bus without a mask is beyond me. Just for the record.
Joshua…I do wonder though if once the hot temperatures really get established if mask wearing will go down again. It will be interesting. Keep us posted on that.
I urge people not to frame the spreading monkeypox virus the way HIV was in 1982 – as a “gay” virus. It’s wrong to do so, plain and simple. It’s wrong biologically. And, it’s wrong morally. I’m fine with descriptions of those initially infected in this early `wave’ as being predominantly male and gay/bisexual. BUT, I’m not at all okay with labeling it therefore a gay disease. It is not. It can be spread among humans; straight, gay, bisexual, asexual, whatever. https://twitter.com/TRyanGregory/status/1528094992291573763
Very well stated , Joshua. Thank you.

There are risks attached to the smallpox vaccine. This article provides an excellent overview: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1069029/
Very interesting. Thanks, Joshua
