According to WHO, monkeypox will not become a pandemic. Famous last words?
WHO is probably right, but I’d rather see the organization not predict at this point. Wait a month or so.
Clearly, monkeypox is not nearly as transmissible. But, HIV isn’t either and HIV is still very much considered an epidemic/pandemic worldwide. HIV mortality is MUCH higher. But, monkeypox is not a mild virus. Case fatality rate in Africa can reach 10%, and even in Western countries is expected to be around 1%. That’s not a low rate.
Regarding monkeypox, U.S. isn’t testing adequately. Not surprised, but I do wish we had better public health. Cases in the Netherlands – country of 17 million – are now up to 26. Mandatory isolation/quarantine for those who test positive. https://twitter.com/CMichaelGibson/status/1531624176955666432
Thanks TK.

Something strange is going on with excess mortality worldwide. It continues to be quite elevated, while official Covid-19 deaths are diminishing. https://twitter.com/fibke/status/1531608005946531840

Spain and Portugal cases are steadily rising: https://twitter.com/CMichaelGibson/status/1531625586455609344
Netherlands added 6 more cases today.
Monkeypox by country:
Spain 196
UK 172
Portugal 96
Canada 63
Netherlands 32
Germany 31
France 17
USA 15
If I had to hazard I guess I think the U.S. currently has several hundred cases.
