DAYS 1-5 (JULY 4-8)
Happy Independence Day! This will be a top 10 summer day across our area with high pressure in control, sunshine and a few decorative high cloud patches, and maybe a few fair-weather clouds popping up during the day. The air will be dry and the temperature generally in the range that is comfortable for anyone outside for both daytime (remember sun screen!) and evening (remember insect repellent!) activities. The overall weather pattern we’ve entered the summer in remains with us though, and we’ll be seeing a disturbance move through out region from northwest to southeast Tuesday, bringing more cloudiness and some unsettled weather. However we may get through a lot of the day without rainfall threatening – just having some showers pass by mostly to the north in the morning, with a warm front, and a shower/thunderstorm threat holding off until the nighttime hours, with a cold front. This system exits early Wednesday, and high pressure builds in with fair weather for midweek, then slides away later in the week as the next disturbance approaches with unsettled weather returning for Friday.
TODAY (INDEPENDENCE DAY): Mostly sunny. Highs 81-88, cooler coastal areas. Dew point 50s. Wind NW up to 10 MPH but some coastal sea breezes midday-afternoon.
TONIGHT: Partly cloudy evening. Mostly cloudy overnight. Lows 58-65. Dew point 50s. Wind NW under 10 MPH shifting to S overnight.
TUESDAY: Mostly cloudy with a chance of showers favoring northern MA and southern NH in the morning. Partly sunny afternoon. Highs 78-85, cooler South Coast. Dew point rising to lower to middle 60s. Wind S 5-15 MPH.
TUESDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy with a chance of showers/thunderstorms. Patchy fog. Lows 60-67. Dew point lower 60s. Wind variable up to 10 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: Partly sunny. Highs 78-85, coolest coast. Dew point near 60. Wind variable up to 10 MPH with coastal sea breezes.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 60-67. Dew point below 60. Wind variable up to 10 MPH.
THURSDAY: Partly sunny. Highs 78-85, coolest coast. Dew point under 60. Wind variable up to 10 MPH with coastal sea breezes.
THURSDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Lows 60-67. Dew point under 60. Wind variable up to 10 MPH.
FRIDAY: Variably cloudy. Chance of showers, possibly thunderstorms. Highs 76-83. Dew point over 60. Wind variable 5-15 MPH.
DAYS 6-10 (JULY 9-13)
High pressure is expected to bring fair, dry weather for July 9-10 weekend. High pressure shifts to the south and a boundary sits north of to near the region with higher humidity and an increased chance of showers and thunderstorms later in the period.
DAYS 11-15 (JULY 14-18)
High pressure in control most of this period. Near to above normal temperatures, mostly dry weather with continued limited rain chances.

Good morning and thank you TK
Thanks TK.
Happy 4th to all!
Thank you, TK.
Are you headed to Boston?
I’m there! But you know that by now. 😀
Hahaha. Indeed I do. Such great fun. I’m setting up my system for surround sound. Grandson and I will watch for you…..although I also know you won’t be in camera view.
Thanks, TK.
Do you think the cloudiness will hold off for the fireworks on the Esplanade?
Thanks TK !
Thanks, TK.
Happy Independence Day to everyone!
The United States of America is a proud and great nation, with an incredibly rich history despite its young age. It has served as a beacon of light to so many people around the world. Most of us have ancestors who came here looking (sometimes yearning; and sometimes desperate) for a better life. The reasons for their migration were manifold. Our ancestors couldn’t have been more different. What united them was becoming part of mankind’s most ambitious social experiment: the U.S.A. In the late 18th century, many European nations didn’t think it would last long. Well, 246 years later – warts and all and deeply flawed in some ways – we’re still here. Still extraordinarily powerful and wealthy. Still exerting out-sized influence around the globe – from the economy to culture. Still the world’s longest standing democracy (if we don’t count Iceland!).
Thanks TK. Happy 4th all!
Thanks Tk . Happy 4th to everyone.
It’s interesting.
Marshfield’s nighttime July 3rd fireworks celebration and the mind boggling traffic jam at 11pm – midnight that defines how many people are in town to celebrate ……. at least in Marshfield, the 4th itself feels anticlimatic.
Independence Day really does feel like the 3rd here.
Interesting. It always felt the same at Humarock.
Tom the 3rd always was the biggest day over the 4th . You think it’s big now you should have been around when the entire beach was all bonfires on the 3rd . It was one crazy , crazy night hands down !!!
One 3rd all the rooftops were catching on fire & that was the end of the fires .
I well remember the bonfires. I don’t think the fire started in the fourth but bone fires were banned after that. I may be remembering wrong
Or maybe you don’t mean the Humarock fires
All the bonfire’s in marshfield Vicki were on the third of July as it was the bigger of the two nights ( 3rd- 4th ) one year the wind was up & caused lots of rooftops to catch fire & since that year ( I don’t know which one vert late 80’s I think ) they never were allowed again . As far as Humarock they usually went by different rules . I grew up on the number Roads which was sunrise beach & every street had a contest on which street had the biggest fire & best marker on top . It was pure craziness that night & I loved every minute of it . The fourth night was way more quiet .
Sounds like it was a good idea they reigned things in a bit.
Exactly, it was so quiet traffic wise yesterday. It looked more like the cold season where you get thru traffic lights in 1, maybe 2 cycles at most.
Thanks SSK
Humarock’s fire was March 2012. The third has always been a big day there also. They banned bonfires after that fire. The residents rebelled. I will never understand. Neighboring towns dropped kids off at hum and there was always trouble. Kids went to the spit and often had to be rescued.
Even this year, they were allowed to have fires no larger than 4 feet. So residents built several 4 foot fires in a row. 🙄
I did find an enormous brant rock fire back in 1941…I think. So many homes burned. But that was March too. As you well know, the homes are so close. I remember you lived along that area. By Fieldstone???
Yes right on ocean street between 8th & 7th road & the beach was right up behind me on foster ave . I hung out at 9th road beach . My opinion sunrise is the best beach in Marshfield or it was growing up . I wish my parents never sold it was a prime spot .
Yes I remember that fire it was very windy & I believe it was a daytime fire during a weekday .
With a few well placed cameras, we found the home of our four skunk babies. Not a good place for them to be…for us at least. Roomy and safe for them.

So cute. We had one living under our porch for years and years.
It never bothered us and we never bothered it. 🙂 I think it has since passed on.
I agree and I’d think they were cute if I didn’t worry about the kids accidentally scaring them. I am a bit concerned that at least a couple Of them seem very unstable. Maybe that is cause they are young. But the mom died from something and if she was sick, there is a very good chance they are sick
So Sad. Best of luck.
I agree with JPD. They are cute. 🙂
Do skunks carry their “spraying” ability right at birth? I was wondering if you could pick them up and quickly carry them away from your immediate property?
Even though I have always lived in the city, I still see and smell them from time to time on my property and throughout the neighborhood.
I just thought of something. Perhaps your local animal control could handle them?
I will call our ACO tomorrow. I don’t want to bug him today. I did call a couple of wildlife rehabilitations but they are not accepting new rehabs.
As far as spraying, I’m not sure. If the mom died of a disease, I don’t think it would be safe to try and handle them.
Adding, they are very well behaved for babies. I was sitting on the stairs last evening waiting to wave to my family as they left. The babies waited until I went inside to come out. And they seem to have a set time to return to their home of about 10:30. ❤️
One final question Vicki. Did you see the mother earlier?
And back to weather. Apologies for the interruption
This is one of the loveliest July 4ths weather wise I recall. It is 81 with cloud dotted vivid blue sky and a 50 degree DP
In spite of the very low dewpoints for this time of year, my house still feels “stuffy”. I slept with my fan on. If I had A/C I probably would have used it at least on “low” mode.
But yes, this is about as good as it gets in July! 🙂
Same here Philip. The nature of old houses? I don’t know. 🙂
Fwiw, my house will be 100 next year! 🙂
my house is about 180 years old. 🙂 🙂
Wow! I had to get out my calculator for that one. 1842. 🙂
Your house is “only” 66 years after the birth of this nation!
Yes, it is pretty old.
That is so cool. No pun intended. I love old houses.
Happy 4th to all!
A very nice weekend weather-wise. Thought about climbing Mount Moosilauke, known as “The Moose,” but stayed around and glad I did. BBQ, fireworks, and friends. Just a perfect weekend!
Just perfect.
I finally moved my sensor.
Now it is in the shade and reading more accurately.
Currently reading 82 with dp 55
Logan 81 with Norwood and Bedford at 82.
Feeling better about my sensor reading now.
BUT, most location have dps in the 40s so now the dp sensor is suspect. I can’t win!(&#()!&@()&#)(!&@)#(&!(#&
does NOT feel like dp in the 40s here. dp 46 at Logan and 48 at Norwood.
btw, I also did a factory reset in case anything got wacked out along the way.
Perfect 4th of July in my opinion.
Knew some of the details surrounding our national anthem, but not all. Learn something new every day.
The lyrics were composed by the lawyer, politician and amateur poet Francis Scott Key while held prisoner by the British in Baltimore Harbor during the War of 1812. The British, having already burned much of Washington, D.C., had turned to Baltimore. The British Navy had brought their most terrifying weapons to bear, the “bomb ships” — those “bombs bursting in air” — and if Fort McHenry were to be neutralized, British troops would freely enter Baltimore, and surely burn it to the ground.
Ultimately, the British could not do to Baltimore what they had to Washington DC, and the rest is history.
Whitney Houston’s rendition in 1991 of our anthem remains a classic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_lCmBvYMRs
The melody of the song also has an interesting history:
