Coaster Ride

4:59PM

The theme of the next 7 days will be temperature swings: First down, then up, then down again. A frontal system moving offshore will slow down and develop a low pressure wave on it, but this will stay offshore through Sunday. A secondary cold front will cross New England Sunday night with scattered snow showers, and yet another wave of low pressure will exit the Mid Atlantic Coast by Tuesday, passing well east of New England. This series of events will serve to bring colder air in and reinforce it through Tuesday. This will not be a significant cold outbreak, just rather chilly. But it will not last too long, for as high pressure builds offshore by midweek, a return flow of southwesterly winds will boost temperatures up big time with 50+ expected Wednesday and 60+ for Thursday. A cold front crossing the region Friday will bring some rain showers, then return temperatures to the chilly side of things by the start of next weekend.

  1. Thanks tk, it appears March of 2012 will be like March of 2011 and 2010, above normal temps and slightly above rainfall, have a great night 🙂

  2. I noticed that Baileyman (assuming it was him) posted on Joe’s Saturday blog that there will be no more snow until next winter. TK & others…do you agree somewhat with his analysis? BM also mentioned that it would be his last post over there at WBZ.

Also Jeremy Reiner hinted at 70 degrees late week due to the atmosphere being more than able to support it, but intentionally left it out of his 7-day due to a bit of a lack of confidence on his part…don’t blame him IMO.

My bet is that Pete will put it in his 7-day come Monday unless “all” models come in cooler. I have noticed this winter Pete will take that kind of a chance with temps.

      1. I wouldnt have the confidence, in spite of all thats been seen the last 4 to 5 months, to say that there will be no more snow until next winter. There’s precedence that big, measureable snowfalls have occurred locally into the first week of April, with the occasionally rarity of mid May. So, while not likely, its certainly a possibility.

      1. It a rarity to get hurricanes in July but it’s possible, doubt we get snow in May nevermind March haha 🙂 have a great night

  3. Today’s AccuWeather Trivia Quiz.

The blue color of the sky is created when sunlight is scattered by:
    A. Oxygen and nitrogen
    B. Ozone
    C. Water vapor
    D. Dust particles

    1. A?

a guess since I was thinking they are always present but then maybe the other choices are too?

  4. Wondering after cleaning out my humidifier, should I refill or put it away for the season? Any ideas as to how late into a typical winter/spring season (not that this winter has been typical) is a humifier neccesary ?

    1. My guess is that you should be fine putting it away. There will be days coming up when you can open up a widow or two. My wife will go crazy as we start getting a warm day here and there wanting to open up all the windows. I tell her just open up one per floor. Just my thought, have a nice day.

      1. Thanks John 🙂 I was sort of thinking the same. If my hands weren’t so dry, I wouldn’t have had any doubt that it was time to pack it up until next winter. I’m really suprised with the mild winter we’ve had that my hands still took such a beating! It must be a woman thing since I also open all the windows on the first warm day we have. Which then reminds me it’s time to wash them 🙂 Looks like spring cleaning will come early this year.

      2. I’ve been opening the windows for a bit most of the winter. I always open our bedroom window in the morning for about 15 minutes. I love the smell of fresh air. Of course everyone else in the house thinks I’m nuts.

  5. 67 is the number to beat for march 8th thursday set in 1995. If the wind direction is just right we may get there.

  6. A boring week ahead for us weatherwise. My thoughts and prayers go out to all the people who dealt with the tornadoes this past Friday and for the lives lost. A lot of people I know complain about the snow here and those people who complain about it they should be happy they are not in an area that is vulnerable to torandoes. Give me 2 feet of snow over a tornado that could destroy my home.

  7. Jeremy Reiner mentioned an interesting fact in his morning blog that the Appalacian mountains to our west actually block a lot of the arctic air from intruding as much as it would. This will be the case early this week. I guess it does make sense since we all know that the mountains to our west (in our area, the Berkshires) usually protect us from those Lake Erie snow squalls. They rarely get much past Worcester. Not too mention summertime thunderstorms.

  8. They were talking about that on yesterdays blog as well. I am looking forward to some warm temps mid week.maybe we will start some spring cleanups this week at work. People always want our job in the warm weather, but not the winter.

  9. kind of surprised how much snow i still have on my families property.
went down to trubull ct yesterday. It was wet and humid for the morning then it cleared out and was sunny. One problem they already have bugs coming out and the ones humans hate the most mosquitoes.
2 to 3 inches back yard
7 inches the average on the sleeding hill alot of it man made
    then 3 inches marshland.
also the water level of the marsh land is the same as it was before the storm.
so many people using the hill the past 3 days.

    1. at the end of my drive way is where the hill starts then it goes down about 10 ft . the hill is on the left side . then there is actually a flat area where we play ball and do other things . then on the right is the pool.
towards the back is marshland. This is what you can do with about a half an acre of land.

  10. Well next week at this time will be the first day of extended light. Inching closer and closer to summer, my favorite time of year.

        1. And it will still be dark when you arrive but at least for now it is light or at least “getting” light, correct? I used to have a job in which I had to leave at 5 am a few years ago myself. I know the feeling.

  11. My wife’s sister moved here in Feb 2010, I tell here we can get snow in March, she doesn’t believe me, she says winters here r shorter than there, the old mans comes into town every March and he’s always says he has never seen snow on ground here in March since he’s been coming up here in 2010, before that he was coming up in Dec, have a good day everyone, I’m in Maine along coast now and there’s patchy snow over but nothing big
