Whatever is hitting Europe right now in terms of Covid wave, it’s leading to nagging illness – in mid summer, mind you – of A LOT of people. Just spoke with my daughter in Glasgow. Her boyfriend’s parents (~60 years old) in London were to visit Glasgow but couldn’t. Luke’s mother has been sick with Covid for 6 days with fever, sore throat, and a deep cough (she’s been prescribed Paxlovid). She’s pretty much confined to her bed. Luke’s father hasn’t been hit as hard. Then I heard that my ex-wife’s boyfriend is “quite ill” with Covid. Not hospitalized, but he’s had the illness for more than 10 days. He’s in his 60s and a heavy smoker. Keep in mind, Luke’s mother got sick with Covid several months ago. There’s no way to gauge possible long-term effects of repeated bouts of coronavirus. All the persons I mentioned have been vaccinated and boosted. I think we’re in for yet another difficult autumn and winter. It’s very unfortunate, but it appears that the virus has adapted in expected and unexpected ways to make people’s lives difficult, and of course in some cases more than just difficult.
