  1. Vicki thats the second big fire for scituate in the last couple of years. They had that big fire two winters ago, wind also was a huge factor in that fire. Will be on later and than maybe not till Saturday. Getting 5 teeth pulled. All 4 wisdom and than a damaged one.gg

    1. I remember that one also John. Oh and owwwww – I hate the dentist. I’d give birth any day before choosing the dentist – good luck

      1. Good luck John ! That just made this endless sinus infection I’ve been battling seem a little less miserable.

        1. Tom I hope you feel better. Nothing fun about a sinus infection. Thank you very much for posting about the fire. We would not have known for a while. We were going to go Sunday to get some of the to go meals from corner cafe to freeze for when my daughter has her baby. Well wait to be sure we are not in the way

          1. Dentist LOL. I’m in the middle of a year long procedure. I am having 4 implants. The first one was in december which the dentist use a hammer to widen the implant site. A hammer no lie. I have the picture of the dental tray they use. A week ago today I had major surgery, placed two implants at the same time. Have my mouth is stitched up, go back a week to get them removed. Next and final one will be in two week were they will use the hammer again. I can post the tray picture to twitter if you want to see. 18k cash, that hurt more. I have a very high pain tolerance, did a month in traction in the hospital with wires through my legs connected to weights. They installed the wires in my bed while I watched. It was cool. Enjoy your dinner tonight! πŸ™‚

John, removing of teeth, I would ask for surgercial rather than grip and rip. Healing is much faster. Good luck!

            1. When they surgically remove teeth all you need is ib profin and Tylenol. No pain killers. I 1000% recommend it.

            2. Iam being put to sleep. All four wisdom being pulled and than a 5th pulled. Not getting it done till 2pm so I can’t have anything to eat or drink after tonight. Had a steak sub for dinner. Is being put to sleep considered surgical. And go figure I am a baseball coach for the town and we have the draft at 7pm tomorrow night, nice. I am not looking forward to it., and I am nervous. I have been researching the procedure on line tonight. Oh well. I was sorry to here about your wife. I would have hit the roof if that was us. I hope the punk does not go back to her class. I can tell you right now that won’t be my kid. If my kid ever did that his ass would be on the curb. Take care coastal. Good luck with your procedures. Wind is still wicked here.

              1. Also I do not want to take pain killers. I don’t drink at all and sure don’t need narcs. Though they gave me some today.

                1. I drink like a fish! Its the irish in me. LOL. Not into any type of pills unless absolutely nesseccary.

              2. Smae here, I can here it blowing. Best of luck tomorrow. Don’t worry about it, it is what it is. A week from now you will be back to normal.

              3. John just follow instructions and you’ll be fine. I had all out years ago. Oldest did not too long ago. Rest. And like coastal drink like a dish. I’m not Irish but works for me too ;). Keep us posted. Hope you don’t mind but will keep you in my prayers tonight

          2. Thanks John and Vicki.

It’s been a tough one. The best way to beat it is with rest and as soon as night comes, the constant coughing kicks in. Patience, I guess.

            1. Tom many I know have this thing. And in nearly every case it ended with a sinus infection – even for those who have never had one. Hope dr gave you some antibiotics and that you get better really soon.

    2. ouch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! good luck i had 2 pulled out before. it was not good. ask if they can give you some sleeping stuff. its what i did

        1. Believe me when I tell you he is a great guy. He has never walked by me without saying hi. Now that was nice. 2-1

  2. Anybody want to take a guess at next winter. My guess, can’t be nearly as bad as this winter. Pretty sad that i am going to summerize my snowmobile this weekend.

  3. Just got back from Nashville. Boy, was I wrong (again!). No pattern change, even though I thought there was one last week and the week before. In fact, if anything the pattern of south/southwest wind and warmth seems to be reinforcing, right across the country. Unfortunately, it’s already leading to some casualties up north, as the ski areas (that had been faring well for a change) have had a terrible two days of serious melting. Next week doesn’t look promising, either. I’m headed north, but even up north it’s going to be mild, unless I drive 600 miles (which I’m not going to do). What an incredibly lame winter. This will be my last post this year until October. I don’t care much for spring or summer weather. I wish you all well. It’s a great place to post, TK does a great job, and I hope to revisit the site next fall.

    1. awwwww Joshua – even if you don’t like spring and summer please stay in touch!! I truly enjoy your posts. Have a great weekend and I sure hope we will “see” you soon!

  4. Will the snow from Friday night be melted by Saturday morning? (I hope!) Even though it would just be a coating, I like when the ground is green and brown. Not white! The only thing that should be white it is the puffy clouds that are NOT blocking the sun! Haha! Tuesday is going to be 70?? I’m so excited! Thanks TK πŸ˜‰

    1. If we get any accumulation it would be under an inch, a little slushy, and it would melt on Saturday. πŸ™‚

  5. Emily one good thing this time of year the snow does not last long so that coating should it happen will be gone by the latest midday Saturday. Enjoy those mild temperatures next week!

  6. Tonight Barry said the Wind Advisory has been extended to 4 am. Also the fronts passing thru may bring some snow flurries/showers.

  7. Timing of cold front last night was slightly after midnight, so officially, most climate stations have recorded highs of 55F to 60F for today, occurring btwn midnight and 2 am.

    1. Yesterday’s > +20F temp anomaly, in combination with Wednesday’s +10F anomoly completely wiped out the below normal first week of March, with most anomalies now averaging btwn + 2 to + 3F for the month.

  8. Interesting watching the model’s forecasted precip loop of tonight and tomorrow morning. Line of rain and snow showers move thru the state, but in Southern NH, there’s a ball of precip…almost looks like a mini upper low. Anyhow, this low then dives southeast over Cape Cod and brings that area of precip in southern NH sharply southeastward over the eastern third of the area……..watch, no forecasting logic to this….this is what will dump a surprising amount of snow.

  9. I was out last night so I shut down my computer early. (I only have a desktop, nothing mobile or smaller – just a cellphone and I use that only for telephone calls).

John – my prayers and thoughts are with you. I may need a wisdom tooth pulled at some point. I know you have things to do, but I am hoping you take time to rest and take it easy.

Tom – hope you are feeling better soon. I’ve had sinus problems and they are not fun.

Joshua – we will miss you but looking forward to your posts in the fall.

Hope I didn’t leave anyone out!

    1. Just move that area a bit further north πŸ™‚

Keeping in mind the warm ground from yesterday’s warmth, and that’s the NAM of course.

  10. John, I’m in the market for some lush germaniums for my two large cement urns, and was hoping you could recommend a good nursery; online or retail. I recently received a catalog from Honeycreek Nurseries boasting about their Mosquito Shoo Geranium. Are you familiar with this hybrid and if so, do they really keep mosquitoes at a distance? I’m considering a few for my backyard, but not for the urns since the flowers seem smaller than traditional gernamiums. Appreciate any suggestions. Thanks πŸ™‚

    1. Hi shotime- No I am not familiar with that type of Geranium. If you can wait till Monday I will get you the answer from a guy that I work with, he went to school for this and knows everthing, I am sorry. Also if you tell me where you live we may be able to recommend a good nursery in your area. I buy from a nurseries. I love Geraniums. Of course you still have plenty of time as late may would be the time for them. Please feel free to ask me anything. As I don’t have all the answers the guy I work with more than likely will. Hope that helps. I do hangers at my house with other plants in urns/pots. The key to any plant is the nutrition. Feed the Geraniums around everyother week with miracle grow for plant’s and flowers. You know what looks good in a nice pot/urn is ornamental grass. I have wide stairs going on to my farmers porch. Last year I put one on each side of the stairs and It looked awesome, plant it in the yard after summer or just toss out.

      1. Thank You, John πŸ™‚ I can definitely wait for more info on Mosquito Shoo Geranium. I’m not ordering anything yet, just at the idea and planning stage for now. I’ve thought of mixing it up in my urns, so ornamental grass sounds like a great addition. I love Miracle Grow, use it throughout my garden. I live in Brighton, and have used Mahoney’s, but have found on-line nurseries to have some unique hybrids otherwise not found at local nurseries. I stay away from Home Depot garden center since I’ve found many of their plants to be diseased and bug ridden. Last year my garden became infested with the red lily beetle. Not sure if HD was to blame, but awfully coincidental since I bought 2 red lily plants from HD the previous fall. The only thing that gets HD off the hook is that I saw some of the nasty culprits on other lilies in my neighborhood. And I mean it when I say nasty!!! I first thought they were ladybugs, that was until I put on my glasses and literally watched them decimate my lily plants! No luck w/ Neem Oil, had to use Bayer Rose and Flower Insect Killer which did the trick. We’ll see if they return back this year?

        1. I am a fan of bayer products. At work we use bayer and scotts. I don’t like lowes or HD for plants. I will have that answer for you Monday morning. The guy I work with has been taken care of the garden at work for 27 yrs. Again ask any thing at anytime. Time to get ready for 5 teeth being pulled- YIKES.

          1. Best of Luck, John! I hope you can get some good rest and a little extra TLC over the weekend πŸ™‚

  11. Henry Margusity on his morning blog mentioned that the 540 (rain/snow) line completely disappears on all the long range maps after Saturday. If this is the case, then this could be the best spring temperature-wise in a long time with very few cold, damp times that we in NE see many times compared to other areas of the CONUS. The only concern will probably be lack of rainfall and the danger of brush fires.

I suspect that other than fire danger, there will be very little to talk about here in the coming weeks and months. I am hoping that there will be not be the severe weather we saw last June in central & western MA and am keeping my fingers crossed that there will not be an extremely hot temps or hurricane threats (Irene) like last summer.

NO SNOW PLEASE for October 2012! πŸ˜‰

And TK…please tell Barry that in my “professional” opinion it should be now safe to remove his snow sticks this weekend, lol. πŸ™‚

  12. Yesterday was nice (albeit windy)…one of those “Spring is here!” walks I took where I could smell the warm soil and birds were out, seemingly more than ever.

  13. Will the warm winter and warmer than usual ocean temps have any influence on the upcoming hurricane season? I would think it would, at the very least an ealier start to the season. Any thoughts?

    1. I think it depends on the winds aloft. If there’s a lot of vertical wind shear in the tropics, then it will be a quiet season, even with the warmer than normal SST’s.

    1. Saw a bunch of robins too. And my crocuses are in bloom and a friends mini irises are in bloom. Spring here we come

  14. Hi all!

    Sorry, busy day.

I’ll check replies here and on the new blog I just posted in a little while, and do a little site admin as well.

Snow event coming… Fun for a few areas later tonight and early Saturday!

    Have a great evening. πŸ™‚
