It seems that monkeypox and now polio are clearly dominating the media airwaves. There is now concern about rising polio wastewater in NYC.
Every time somebody sneezes now media will go nuts. Granted C-19, ‘pox, and polio are serious, but like in weather, after the Blizzard of 1978 the media goes nuts at snow flurries.
Also, the name Monkeypox will be changed soon as there is a call for that due to the name being racist (yes, it’s a real story).
Pandemic phase isn’t over until the virus says it is. This said, college campuses are in a better place this fall than last. More people – not just college age folks; everybody – are vaccinated/boosted and have some degree of natural immunity than in August, 2021.
My hope is that the other sub-variants fail to thrive, and that a new variant doesn’t crop up. If this happens, we should see deaths decline from their current ~500/day average. Should that level come down to 100 we no longer have a pandemic. This is achievable. We were down to 320/day a couple of months ago.
