If you blink you may miss it, but winter weather is going to make a short visit tonight and early Saturday in the form of snow showers, with some accumulation in eastern MA and southern NH. Cold air, moving in during this evening, will stick around through early Sunday morning. The snow will be produced by the combination of a strong disturbance and a cold front passing through southern New England. The disturbance will ignite a low pressure area just offshore Saturday morning which may enhance snowfall in northeastern MA and southeastern NH, especially near the coast, where the most snowfall is expected. This will not be a major snowfall by any stretch, but up to a few inches may occur, and that will be enough to have to push off walks and driveways. Roads may see some slushy accumulation and may be briefly snowcovered and slick, but existing warm ground will not allow this to last very long.
By the time we get to Sunday and Monday, a new warm-up will be underway, and the mild pattern will last for much of next week, with temperatures closer to the coast being determined by the wind direction, as winds will be variable and at times off the ocean as we get to the middle of next week.
Forecast for southern NH, eastern MA, and RI…
TONIGHT: Clouds advance. Snow showers developing after 8PM from west to east, becoming more numerous at times. These may be mixed with rain at the start near the coast and south of Boston especially toward RI. Late night low 24-29. Wind W up to 10 MPH shifting to NW with higher gusts at times.
SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy to partly sunny through midday with snow showers, most numerous in northeastern MA and southeastern NHΒ including coastal areas to the immediate Boston area. Snow accumulation from brief slushy coatings around the MA/RI border and southeastern MA to 1/2 to 2 inches elsewhere except locally up to 3 inchesΒ in parts of coastal northeastern MA and southeastern NH. Partly to mostly sunny in the afternoon. High 35-40. Wind shifting to NE 10-20 MPH in the morning then back to NW in the afternoon.
SATURDAY NIGHT: Increasing clouds. Low 24-29 early then rising into the 30s. Wind variable shifting to SW around 10 MPH.
SUNDAY: Clouds early, then mostly sunny. High 50-55. Wind SW 10-20 MPH.

“Winter Wink, Don’t Blink!” Hahaha, love your title Tk π
Will this be the last of the snow?
Never count snow out until the end of April. However, given the overall pattern, this may be one of the very last snow threats, Emily. π
a wide spread 0-3 inches north of the pike highest amounts across nh boarder through northeast mass some for inch amounts are possible expecially across interior eastern mass.
Level 1 with the snow and this maybe the last time the snow index makes an appearance on the blog.
Hahaha nice title and thanks TK
Radar looks very disorganized, we’ll see what happens…
going to stowe vt tomorrow by bus . tickets were 65 dollors and the ride is free.
I think I told you my husbands uncle has a ski home in Stowe. My husband used to take the bus to visit before we were married. I told him you are doing the same and it brought back nice memories. Have a great weekend!!
Maybe you’ll have a “little” fresh coating of snow. Either way, plenty of cold tonight for the snow-machines just in time for you to hit the slopes tomorrow. Be safe, and have a blast! π
I see a novel in your future, TK π
Well if I can only translate the fact that I don’t shut up in person to paper, I’ll be all set… π
For what it’s worth, the 00z NAM produces flurries for everyone tonight…
You could tell its been a dud winter when were happy about flurries.
This could be the last chance of seeing snow till Nov.
Usually dec π
John you could very well be right. Hope everything turned okay for you at the dentist.
I think it did. Novacane just starting to go away almost 8 hrs later. I look like alfelfa from the little raskels with an ice thing wrapped around my face,LOL. Thanks. Yea looks warm for sometime starting sunday. I think we make a run at 70 Monday
We just got about 1 1/2 to 2 inches of snow in Pelham, NH in about an hour. It was some of the heaviest snow I have seen all winter and now it has stopped.
Pretty interesting watching this little feature on the radar. Beverly, MA down to 1/2 mile in snow.
Other interesting item is on an infrared loop, to see the next wave of warmth, rolling eastward across both the central US and Canada.
Light snow….ground whitening quickly. Sun dimly visible thru clouds.
Moderate snow…..this is crazy ! Pavement showing effects of warm weather and March sun.
Last 10 to 15 minutes…….Heavy Snow……quickly over 1 inch….gotten darker and the pavements are starting to accumulate as well.
A friend from Gloucester reported to me that they had “more than 4 inches” as she left for work down here in Woburn, where we only have had the ground whitened in the last 1/2 hour.
As of 4AM, the Hampton Beach web cam was showing heavy snow falling with at least 1 inch on the ground at the time. Viewing the cam this morning makes it look like they had close to 2 inches there.
Ipswich has 5 inches and 6+ on NH ME coast. They said up to 1 inch per hr in places on south coast. Crazy. Clouds here now but was sunny earlier
Intensity of snow winding down. Guessing btwn 2 to 3 inches as all the grass is completely covered. The last 30 to 45 minutes were wild ! Heaviest snow of the winter, easily !
Jackpot is Stratham NH with 8.5 inches.
Fluff, it will shrivel up quickly…
Still amazing
Oh the areas with anything measurable will see it cut itself in half just from settling in the next few hours, start to melt in the partial March sun and then pretty much vanish tomorrow. The coating we had here in Woburn is gone already.
You’ve described exactly what’s been happening here the last hour. Sun is out now and snow is melting quickly.
Spring is here, turn the clocks forward, we’ve decided to open pool next weekend, we usually wait till 1st or 2nd week of April but we r gonna do it sooner, just think in about 500 yrs we will be able to open pools in winter π
sooooooo – are we invited to the first winter opening when the time comes π
Just looking at the NWS projections for temps next Saturday, the 17th….St Patrick’s Day. In my opinion and for good reason, these projections are usually on the conservative side…………they are projecting low 70s in most of interior New England……………..I’m glad I’m sick this weekend and not next, sounds like the weather could make it more festive than usual. π
Tom I’m sorry you are still feeling sick – I hope you can rest and get it out of you once and for all.
