Precisely. And, I’m not anti-vax. But, there’s still a lot to be learned from these new vaccines.
Speaking of vaccines, it’s recommended that people wait until after Labor Day to get their next booster, as the new booster will be updated. I’m scheduling my appointment for late September. I’ll have both a flu and a Covid-19 shot at the time.
I had my booster August 3 so won’t get the new one for a bit. I will definitely get the flu. I do that yearly.
Thanks as always Joshua. I was planning on getting my flu shot next month (September) then the updated booster as soon as it becomes available. Hopefully the booster will happen before the year ends.
Please read this through comments. It is a story of what we are as a country ….the bad but also the good and there is good. Please always try to be the good. I know folks here do just that.
Thanks for sharing Vicki. When crowds of others aren’t wearing masks, all the more reason that I put mine on. I never thought that there would actually be shame on wearing a mask regardless of setting.
I agree. The shame is backwards. I’ll never understand
100% agree.
I don’t get it. I don’t care if a person’s got tattoos everywhere, I don’t care what clothes they wear, the color of their hair, the hats they put on, the number of piercings, etc … So, why on earth should people be upset or shame others regarding mask-wearing. If someone wants to wear a mask everywhere – outside, inside, in their car, in their home, fine. It does NOT matter.
I’ve now been told at pharmacies and grocery stores least two dozen times by total strangers that I “don’t have to wear a mask, you know,” sometimes followed up by “why are you wearing a mask.”
I can’t believe people actually say anything to you. We are topsy turvey

Interesting how Japan did so well early on in the pandemic and even during the Alpha and Delta periods but has been awful ever since. Glad our death numbers aren’t anywhere near that. I am assuming I’m reading the chart correctly of course.
I don’t get it either.
That’s inaccurate. Overall, Japan has done very well. In aggregate, throughout the entire pandemic, at 299 deaths per million it’s about 9 times fewer than the U.S. Japan does have an ongoing BA.5 wave that is the worst wave it has experienced. Its death numbers are higher (2.5 times) than the U.S. right now. But this has been the only time during the pandemic – this includes all previous Omicron sub-variants – that Japan has been this high and higher than the U.S.
My question is why are they suddenly higher than US
Along the lines of Joshua’s response, see the graphs below of US and Japan deaths per million. The maximums for Japan are barely above the minimums for the US.
Thanks TK.
Interesting question/thought. I’d ask also what we’d learn from mRNA vaccines

But should we compare to US data rather than to itself?
