Fauci says we’ll be endemic by late fall. He’s also leaving his post in December. We could read this in two opposite ways: 1. He just wants to say it’s endemic, as he can then retire having overseen the transition; 2. He genuinely believes the end is near. I think the latter. I’m less cynical about Fauci than some. I’ve followed his storied career since the 1980s. He’s a dedicated scientist and civil servant. He certainly has his flaws – we all do – but he’s generally candid in his expert opinions.
Hallelujah. I hope he turns out to be correct. Maybe we can truly end the year 2022 on a “2019” note, if you will.
Endemic = THE END of Covid-19 aka SARS Cov-2?
Not the end, just no longer pandemic. So, it would then be like a circulating flu. I think Fauci and others look at hospitalization and death data in a similar way to mine, though I’m sure theirs is more sophisticated. We’re still in a phase in which hospitalizations and deaths are elevated, not to mention the large numbers of case and long Covid. But, I see some encouraging signs. The hope is that the immunity wall or series of walls will have built up over time sufficiently to lower case levels further and in turn hospitalizations, etc …
I agree re fauci. He has made some missteps, but then remember he dealt with a president who suggesting drinking disinfectant and then one that spends a fair amount of time convincing us Covid is over.
Some of the comments from the far right are disgusting.
This is one reason I decided to have #4 a few weeks ago. I just don’t feel comfortable with vaccines that are just rolled out. My decision may prove to be inaccurate. I was very torn in which way to go
Thanks Vicki. I am torn now as I was planning to get the new booster as soon as it comes out.
But…Why are they not going to wait for complete human testing? What if it has little/no effect on Covid? What if it can be harmful in some people?
What are they thinking? Clearly they are not.
I was really looking forward to getting the vaccine this fall. Now I may have decisions to make. Sigh.
I have the sense Topol thinks the headline is a bit harsh. It may have some teeth but hard to tell I think. I’m naturally cautious about putting anything that is new in my body. I’d like to hear Joshua’s thoughts. I suspect Faust may post something on these lines also
Oh. I’d agree it is harsh because a headline such as that will discourage people who are already hesitant. Philip, I would have waited no matter what. It is why I had the booster in august rather than waiting for the multi variant vax
I didn’t see any commentary here on Friday regarding the Moderna lawsuit of Pfizer over the mRNA patent tech. I’m a contracted worker for Pfizer helping teams through the development process and regulatory filings. One of the u fortunate effects is that all mRNA related development has to stop. This is a HUGE deal to the company all because Moderna wants more money. SMH
Wow. I has not seen that. I’ll need to do some searching. Are you saying there can be no more mRNA vaccines
