Tuesday October 4 2022 Forecast (7:28AM)

Low pressure hangs around to our south while high pressure to the north weakens a little bit over the next 2 days. This will result in occasional rainfall favoring the South Coast, but possible elsewhere as well. Low pressure pulls away by Thursday and a narrow area of high pressure moves in, resulting in fair and milder weather which will last into Friday. This ends when a strong cold front sweeps through the region Friday evening, perhaps bringing a shower, but more notably bringing a much cooler air mass to start the weekend.

TODAY: Mostly cloudy. Periods of rain favoring the South Coast region. Highs 54-61. Wind NE 10-20 MPH except 15-25 MPH South Coast, higher gusts possible.

TONIGHT: Cloudy. Periods of rain eastern CT, RI, and eastern MA. Lows 46-53. Wind NE 10-20 MPH except 15-25 MPH coast, higher gusts.

WEDNESDAY: Cloudy. Periods of light rain eastern and southern MA, RI, eastern CT, diminishing later in the day. Highs 53-60. Wind NE 10-20 MPH except 15-25 MPH coast, higher gusts.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Any rain ending. Lows 45-52. Wind N 10-20 MPH, diminishing overnight.

THURSDAY: Sun/cloud mix. Highs 66-73. Wind W to SW 5-15 MPH.

THURSDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 50-57. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.

FRIDAY: Partly sunny. Late-day showers possible southwestern NH and central MA. Highs 68-75. Wind SW 10-20 MPH.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Variably cloudy. Evening showers possible southeastern NH, eastern MA, RI, eastern CT. Lows 42-49. Wind shifting to NW 10-20 MPH, higher gusts.

SATURDAY: Sun and passing clouds. Highs 53-60. Wind NW 10-20 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (OCTOBER 9-13)

General zonal flow pattern. Secondary cold front passes by later in the weekend (October 9) with a few clouds and another shot of chilly air as another Canadian high moves into the region for October 10-11, but as the high center slips to teh south we’ll see moderating temperatures later in the period with continued dry weather.

DAYS 11-15 (OCTOBER 14-18)

A return to mostly below normal temperatures quickly at mid month with another series of cold fronts and Canadian air masses set to visit. Precipitation generally below normal.

  1. Thanks TK.

Could some locations see their first frost of the season over the upcoming weekend?

After this week, are we going back towards long term drought?

  2. Thanks TK !

We’re working on a 4 day streak I am not happy about.

    Highs less than 60F.

    59F, 58F, 58F, 56F at Logan past 4.

      1. Good point Philip !

But wait, the weekend looks chilly !! LOL !!!!!!!!!!

Unlike this stretch, at least we’ll have some sun.

  3. Thank you, TK

I noticed the last two nights that the temp dropped significantly before sunset….48 Sunday and 50 last night. I thought it would do as it typically does and continue its descent after sunset. But it remained the same throughout the night and until sunrise.

Is this due to the humidity creeping up? Clouds? Both? Neither?

    1. This is a guess …..

Enough thinness in the high cloudiness to allow for some loss of “heat” that had built up inland during the day-time.

However, then the same thin clouds and light breeze kept the temps steady overnight, once the day-time bit of warmth was lost.

  4. Long range on the GFS sending hints of a Caribbean tropical system.

At this very long range, enough ridging to keep it on a southerly track into the Yucatan or Central America.

We’ll see what the trends show during the next week as it comes closer to the medium range time period.

    1. 0.50-1.50 South Coast. Boston area could get a sneaky inch. As you go west and north, drops off to not much.

        1. NWS is higher per some of the short range guidance. That’s certainly not out of the question.

    1. Thank you, JimmyJames. I love these reminders from you. And I remember reading about this also but had forgotten

  5. NWS Taunton has issued 62 severe thunderstorm warnings this year. Offices that have issued fewer than 62 include:

    NWS Brookhaven (NYC)
    NWS Pontiac (Detroit)
    NWS Gaylord (Northern Lower Michigan)
    NWS Green Bay
    NWS Lake Charles
    NWS El Paso
    NWS Corpus Christi
    NWS Brownsville
and many west of the Rockies

NWS Seattle, NWS Eureka, NWS Bay Area, NWS Honolulu, NWS San Juan, NWS Anchorage, and NWS Juneau have not issued a single one this year; NWS Key West and NWS Sacramento have only issued 1.

  6. I don’t think any radar is working well locally, because there’s nothing over Marshfield and it is raining moderately.

    1. This is still the KBOX outage that goes for about 1 week.

We’ve been covered by TBOS, KOKX, KENX, and KGYX for the last several days. A lot of this particular rain is being generated at a low enough level that the radar beams from KOKX, KENX, KGYX are overshooting it.

  7. Sad news. TB-12 and Gisselle ready to split up. They have been living separately the past few months. 🙁

Imo, Brady really should have retired after his last SB win. I get the feeling Gisselle had enough of the NFL.

    1. At this point I think it’s almost old news. Everybody knew that if he continued to play that marriage was done. He made his choice, IMO. Hope at least it’s smooth and they can both move forward. Drama isn’t needed.

      1. I sure agree with you. No one knows anything except everyone on social media believes he knows everything. I have a true love/hate thing with social media.

    2. It’s hard to stop doing something you love, especially when you’re still performing at a very high level. Like Rocky exclaimed, “It’s all I know. I never asked you to stop being a woman. Don’t ask me to stop being a man.”

      1. If that’s in response to Brady yeah and honestly if it isn’t, I cannot begin to find the words to say how exceptional your comment is.

  8. 0.61 inches last several hours. Now, echoes nearing on radar. I’m starting to think the NWS is onto something with its 3-4 inches of rain in Marshfield. It continues to rain moderate to heavy.

  9. JJ Thanks for the links regarding the 10/4/87 snowstorm. I was 11 years old at the time and remember it vividly growing up in Amsterdam NY. Rain was in the forecast the night before and I was in shock when I woke up to 6” of heavy wet snow in the AM. Lots of tree carnage and power lines down very similar to what we dealt with in CT during the Oct 29 2011 storm. Some of the hill towns outside of Albany had over two feet from that storm. Incredible for so early in the season.
