I was interested that Dr Dewald’s children are also remote schooling
Sadly, some bad news to report on my son. He spiraled downward yesterday in a very worrisome way. He’s now in a hospital, waiting to be admitted. He’s in a separate section of the ER designated for psychiatric patients. I do know he’s `safe’ in the sense that he can’t do self-harm. Unfortunately I can’t visit him until he’s been admitted which will be in a few days.
Mental illness is insidious. It’s crippling at times. I feel horribly for my son. He’s bright, funny, caring, and a fundamentally good person. But, he has a disease that makes him feel very sick. He told his mother this morning on the phone that he is “in so much pain. It’s unbearable.”
I’m in rough shape right now, as is his mother. We’re in a helpless situation.
Joshua, your news is heartbreaking and I have no words. If there is anything I can do, please please reach out. Please know you are in my heart. Prayers and positive thoughts continue ❤️❤️
Joshua, I am so very sorry to hear this. My heart and thoughts go out to all the people involved in this situation. Please take care of yourself the best that you are able.
Thinking of your son and your entire family Joshua.
So sorry about your son, Joshua.
Continued thoughts and best wishes..
I agree wholeheartedly about mental illness. Although not nearly what you are going through now, I have a close friend who battles it and I have seen and dealt with this myself to help this person.
I hope you get to see your son soon and I sincerely hope that there are better days ahead for all of you.

I can’t sleep much. I do work as a means of distraction at this point. Here’s my latest piece on Covid-19. Most of it was written before my son’s bad episode began. https://www.forbes.com/sites/joshuacohen/2022/10/06/europes-emerging-covid-19-wave-reminds-us-that-the-pandemic-isnt-over-till-its-over/?sh=104e01f06e43
