  1. Joshua, I hope you are hearing some positive news.

Philip, am I correct that your booster is today?

I was shocked when I had a reaction to my flu vaccine yesterday. I never react to flu shots. I debated on whether to get the over 65 quad as I’d intended to wait for it to be tested another year. But ended up getting it. Ugh.

    1. Vicki, I got my Moderna booster yesterday at CVS. I am ok and all but I did feel a bit “flushed” just before bedtime. I took some ibuprofen and again this morning, otherwise I feel fine. Having said that, I didn’t feel any reaction whatsoever with the previous Pfizer shots and my flu shot last month. For now I am in no way “sick” or anything like that.

I think for my next booster, I am going to find someplace that has Pfizer instead. I wonder if Moderna has the corner market on boosters, if that’s the proper term.

      1. Glad you had a mild reaction. I believe moderna is a bit stronger than pfeizer which may be the reason. I’m curious as to whether one has more protection

        1. Thanks Vicki. I never thought of more protection perhaps. I would like Joshua to chime in briefly on this if he’s able.

  2. I was thinking about how contagious the new variant is and wonder if it is in part because it seems to be a GI thing. Those are always highly contagious because they are both touch and airborne. Just wondering

  3. Briefly visiting the website and posting.

Status quo regarding my son. Not stable enough to be released. So, he’s being kept in the hospital for at least another 4 days. There’s no opening at any other hospital that actually treats his condition. The hospital he is in only treats it peripherally, if you will, with pills and monitoring and without the necessary cognitive behavior therapy component. The CBT they do have is tailored to drug addicts and other substance abuse disorder patients. My son is not either of those.

Vicki, glad you got the flu shot. Every year the influenza vaccine is different, so some years it may cause more of a reaction in certain people than others.

Philip, glad you got your Covid-19 booster. Moderna is very effective; about the same as Pfizer. It does tend to produce more side effects than Pfizer.

    1. Keep in mind, mental health is extraordinarily underfunded. It’s always been that way. The shortage of mental health care beds and clinics is chronic. Not only that, mental health care is very poorly reimbursed. My son’s routine CBT – that he’s been getting once a week for the past 3 years – is NOT reimbursed at all. His mother and I pay for it. Also, the co-payments for hospitalizations and outpatient care are quite steep. I’m talking thousands of dollars for each hospitalization and for each outpatient program. And that’s with good insurance.

      1. This is as sad as it gets. In this country we pay for what is undeniably necessary out of pocket in far too many cases. Our approach to mental illness is abysmal. I’m so sorry, Joshua

    2. Thank you. Do you know what is in Modena that makes more likely to produce a reaction. I know at the very start, Moderna was the preferred vaccine.

I do know flu vaccines are different yearly. After at least five decades plus of flu vaccines without a single reaction and this being a new vaccine gives me pause. I have some theories but am still forming them
